Customer Questions & Answers

Does this valve serve both the hot and cold water at once, or do I need two valves, one for each?

Asked by: Jim
you will need to connect to a hot and cold supply coming into the Timeout and then it sends hot and cold on to the washer.

Push lever every time, or just ONCE ?

Plumbing was placed on the wrong wall (directly behind stacked pair), so are not reachable unless machine is pulled 2 feet away from wall. Does this product need to have its lever pushed to the ON position EVERY time we do laundry ? OR, just once during installation... and of course after any events that would "trigger" the self shut-off action.
Asked by: Redwin
The great thing about the Timeout is that you slide the lever that allows hot and cold to flow to washer hoses each time, the lever then counts down in a few hours and shuts everything off. So it best if you have easy access to its location

"Ticking" sound when running ?

After my washing machines cycle of 45 minutes is over, will this product continue to make that ticking sound (like from a wind up spring loaded timer) until the total of 2.5 hours have passed ? I'm asking because my machine is inside my master bedroom.
Asked by: Redwin
I can't hear any ticking

can i connect the valve directly to the water supply line

Asked by: roscoe
It's configured to screw on to the on/off valve that the hoses connect to but you could find enough hardware fittings to put it on the line itself.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Well Built Product This product does NOT come with installation instructions or the fitting required for a new installation. They should mention this in BOLD. If you are installing for the first time, you will need basic plumbing and soldering skills

Rated 4 out of 5 by from You might have to buy more parts What is not included is the connectors to hook to existang plumbing. If you are replacing a similar valve, then this might work, but if it's a new installation, a couple of points: A.) The pipe stub ends need to be pointing up. B.) You'll need to buy "TimeOut 1/2 in. Brass Washing Machine Valve Inlet Connectors" for an additional $19.99. C.) There are no instructions or tips included in packaging, you are on your own.

Installation was easy if you have a pipe cutter. I've been meaning go get one of these since seeing one on my brothers washer. Im so glad I've made it this long without a house filling flood of water from a burst rubber filler hose. Everyone should have this.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I feel much safer when we leave the house now. I didn't realize this unit was to replace an existing unit so I had to shop for a few extra parts. Outside of that, it was a simple installation. I used some sweat fittings and one Sharkbite fitting.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works well, installation was tricky I bought this to replace a manual shutoff that was positioned inside a plastic water suplly and drain box recessed into the wall. This unit looked like an easy two screw replacement for the manual shutoff part of the valve. I removed the old manual part of the valve and tried to place the unit on top of the old valve bottom. Unfortunately the timer unit and plastic cover projects to the rear much more than the manual shutoff. WIth some pushing I was able to flex the back of the plastic box enough to get the valve in place and secure it with the screws. I was unable to flex it further to install the plastic cover for the timer unit. Using my cutoff wheel on my Dremel tool I cut away a section of the back of the timer cover where it touched the wall and was able to install the cover. We have had the unit for several weeks and so far it has worked perfectly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A relief to have this protecting myhome This Old House showed this easy replacement auto shutoff. I didn't want the work of an electric one with and all the torch and soldering work it would involve to install it. For $100 this was 10 minutes to install and buys me about $3000 worth of damage protection. Friends of ours had a hose go an the damage to their home was extensive. This was so cheap and easy I can't recommend it enough.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from easy swap replacement. a new install may take a little longer I replaced a leaking single handle washing machine shut off with this mechanical timer switch. "My family has a genetic flaw preventing them from turning anything off". It took longer to locate my Hex wrench than to replace the valve. It came with everything needed to replace an existing shut off. A new install will require the mating parts. that will take a little longer to sweat the new parts on the pipe.
