Customer Questions & Answers

what is the height (or range of heights) from the ground to the bottom of the top base?

Asked by: Dave
Techstar website says: Distance from the top of your dock to bottom of your stairs - 55"

Does the ladder need to rest on the ground?

Asked by: Lifeisgood
Ladder does not need to rest on ground but back of ladder will need to rest against dock/bulk head etc if the bottom of the ladder does not touch the ground. If the bottom of ladder touches the ground the back of the ladder does not need to rest against anything. If there is not some type of support on the bottom or back of the ladder the ladder is free to swing virtually 360 degrees around its hinge.

5 Step Wide Flip Up Polyethylene Dock Ladder is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 32.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good product Stairs work great for getting on and off boat from pier with tide changes. Only negative is that they are somewhat hard to raise up from the pier.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Bulk head ladder Sturdy and able to support good amount of weight. Using it in salt water, time will tell if the bolts in the hinge will last as they are not galvinized. They may be zinc plated. Mounting hardware is not included so you will need 8 lag bolts and washers to secure to surface. Ladder does not need to rest on the bottom to be used. However, the back of the ladder will need to rest on the back of the dock/bulkhead if the bottom of the ladder is not resting on the bottom of pond/lake/pool etc... A sturdy 2X4 of at least 6 feet will ease in lifting the ladder from the water.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great ladder for Boat Dock This ladder made access from the water to the boat dock so easy for both young and old alike. We are so pleased. Our grandchildren love swimming in the lake.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from nice looking, easy to install, works well Tried to order directly from the manufacturer after I viewed the u-tube video of dogs or people using the ladder . However the cost of shipping was as much as the ladder. I was delighted to find home depot started carrying the product with free shipping to my local store. In addition to pets and Able people, this slanted ladder is great for us over 50 folks the need an easier way out than a regular vertical dock ladder. Great product. Reasonable price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This Thing is Great It is lightweight and easy to install. The water fills the stairs and makes them heavy in the water so they are stable. Makes is very easy for a 60+ YO with arthritis to get out of the water, as it projects out at about 30 degree angle. There is also a built in recessed area to grab hold of til you get to the top. Then you can grab the built in handles. Simple, great design. We also installed a treated wood staircase from the dock to the water and I wish we had done this first. It would have saved us a bunch, because this is the stairway we prefer. The lighter color makes cleaning a little mor frequent, but surprisingly, the steps themselves do not get unusually slick like the wood stairs. One thing I wish this product had is a way to raise it out of the water when not in use. I plan to put a cable/pulley system from the bottom step to the dock, so we can get it upright in fall.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great quality We bought this ladder to use off our dock on the sound. Based on the reviews it seemed great quality and value, which it is. The video shows the ladder in use for water that comes close to the top of the dock. For our house, the water is probably 3-4 feet below the dock so it doesn't work as well for us with the dog. We had to put an additional brace under the first step into the water to make it stick out from the dock. We love the feature that you can put in and out of the water which is great for safety. We use a metal pole to lift out of the water because it is very heavy once filled with water. Even though this ladder isn't perfect for us, it is only because we have so much space between the dock and water. Great quality!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Addition to any dock. Ordering and picking up from Home Depot saves on shipping costs. Fit inside my 2011 Ford Escape. Took the pieces out of the box when taking it home. When picking up just make sure the bag of bolts, washers and nuts is in the box if the box looks damaged. The stairs are very sturdy, well made and easy to install. The holes to mount to the dock are 1/2 but I used 3/8 bolts instead because if you used 1/2 inch bolts you can't use washers and I wanted to use washers to prevent the bolts from digging into the plastic on the top. I used lag bolts where there was plenty of wood to screw into and bolts and nuts where there was just the planks. The instructions could be a little better by suggesting some of the mounting options. Take a look at your dock before you pick it up so you can pick up the screws and bolts at the same time. The stairs work great, so much easier than a ladder. I like that the stairs lay flat on the dock when not in use so they don't block my view like other dock ladders.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very easy to get out of the lake Makes getting out of the lake very easy. Only issue is ladder is heavy when full of water so you have to be patient and let it drain when you're lifting it out of the lake and folding it back onto the deck.
