Safe for waterproof-coated balcony?

We're considering this for a balcony, part of the original home construction. The balcony floor is sheathing covered in a hard, rough protective coating which holds up well to the elements. The balcony is meant to be used but we've been told to be careful not to scratch the floor such as dragging furniture across it. Noting the one negative review claiming protrusions on underside of the tile might scratch his finished deck, I'm wondering whether we risk damaging the coating on our balcony surface with these tiles?

Customer Reviews

Beige Polypropylene 1ft. x 1ft. Deck Tile (40 - Case) is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 15.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product TopDeck Poly Deck Tiles solved my problem. I selected a site (because of the view) at the campground that I keep my travel trailer permanently. The site does not have a concrete pad and after going through 2 Poly Rugs I decided to look for an alternative. I went on Home Depot's webpage and under the Decking category I found the TopDeck Poly Decking. I decided to buy 2 colors to create an inside border and finish it off with the TopDeck Edging. Installation was easy (If used on the ground I suggest a ground cloth under the tiles to eliminate grass and weeds from growing through the tiles.) and quick and contours to the uneven ground. If in the future I decide to move to another site or campground I can take the TopDeck Decking with me and use it on the ground or concrete pad because I can make it any size. I would definitely recommend the TopDeck Poly Deck Tiles. I only wish they would sell the Tiles by the each as I would like to add on to my decking but I do not need a case of 40 pieces.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Pleased but with a suggestion The 4 x 4 tiles work well on our deck and assemble fairly easily. Instructions would have been helpful as would suggestions as to how to cut those remaining tiles that are too big for the finishing space. The tiles feel smooth and strong underfoot and seem to allow for proper drainage as well.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good purchase The tile went on very easy and look very good when installed on my front porch. Now wait and see what the Florida sun will do to them once been exposed to the sun as it is on the south side of my house. As being able to install them on a driveway I am skeptical because My Wife set a flower pot on the tile and the legs of the stand sunk into the tile, imagine what a pick up truck would do.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from perfect for my deck I needed the tiles to cover my outdoor hot tub deck that was finished with plywood instead of deck boards. The tiles are easy on your bare feet and look great. Installation was very easy. No need for any tools other than a saw to cut a few areas around poles. I did not use a rubber hammer to install, I just lined up the pieces and stepped on them to click into place. I installed about 300 square feet in about 2 hours. Certainly recommend these to spruce up the look or an old deck or concrete pad.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this! Loved these deck tiles! My 12 years old son and I covered our 12x13 lanai in less than 2 hours. And that includes cutting the last row of tiles in half to fit. They go together very easily, and seem to be holding up with our crazy FL weather. I love that they are not slippery when they are wet. The kids can come out of the pool and not slide all over.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from good deck surface This product was easy to assemble and fit well. It drains well. It feels fine to walk on. There are about 6 houses in our plan that have used it. Two of them have used it previously. Since I just got this, I can not comment on its durability. Look for other comments to see how well it lasts.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Value for the Money Will be using this product on a steel boat deck. It provides 1/2" height and comes in snapped together 2x2 sections. Taking apart is not easy, though. Time will tell as to how much debris becomes collected underneath. But, should be easy to hose down, anyway.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not what I expected -- not helpful for our need We were looking for something to protect our newly sanded and stained redwood deck since our pooch is incredibly rough on it with her claws and exuberant personality. We considered a rug, but needed something that would dry quickly after a rain and not hold moisture. These tiles would do just that, however they are made of a very hard, ridgid plastic; not at all flexible or slightly rubbery feel that I had hoped for. Therefore, the tiles themselves with the protruding things on the underside would scratch up the deck just as much as our dog's claws. This product did not work for our need.
