Well, as I always do, I read the instructions carefully. Put it all together and went outside to do some simple trimming.
Things were great... for three (yes, 3) minutes...
... and then it quit. Just quit. Died. Dead. Non functioning.
Hmmm... well, I have another fully charged battery. Nope. Kaput! Finished! Lights out!
I also bought the hedge trimmer but haven't tried it out. Won't, either. It will also be returned. If the Toro trimmer only lasted 3 minutes, what hope do I have that either product will last more than a year.
Sorry, Toro... I gave it a shot and you let me down.
(this is in no way a reflection on the wonderful service that I have received from Home Depot)

This unit worked well for one season. After that it quit on me.
I took to to the local Toro dealer. The guy at Toro informed me that the trimmer is actually made by someone else and Toro kindly puts their name on it. He couldn't look at it because he wouldn't be able to get parts for it.
Took it to an electric motor shop who informed me the battery is the problem. A new battery is expensive to replace.
I have been advised to purchase a Stihl gas powered trimmer.
My advice is to not put any weight behind the reviews who have not had the unit for less than a year or two.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by miken This unit works great.I have had it for a couple of months. I originally bought a Ryobi but took it back as the charge only lasted 15 minutes and was not enough to do my yard (20 minutes) This one shows 50% still available after the 20 minute job. My only knock is that it is awkward loading the battery into the unit and into the charger, otherwise I would give it 5 stars. I am now considering the new hedge trimmer as I think I could swap batteries between units as my hedge is over an hour job and probably needs 2 batteries to get through it.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by JLK2000 rivals gas trimmers
My gas trimmer broke down and I had to replace it. Decided on trying out a battery powered unit. Knew I needed Lithium since they perform better than NiCd battery units. Decided on this Toro and it didn't disappoint. I was able to trim front and back yard, all the weeds between the patio blocks, and a bunch of overgrowth of weeds and grass on my gravel driveway on a single charge. The power did not fade at all and the capability of this trimmer is excellent. Do not underestimate the battery powered trimmers. They rival the power of some single line gas trimmers. The auto-feed line was very convenient... no bumping to advance the line, no fumes, very quiet. it broke through thistles almost 3/4" thick like butter. Very happy with it on it's first outing. We'll see how it goes over time, but so far so good!

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Odysseus47 Surprisingly powerful + easy to use
I purchased this Toro from Home Depot a few days ago, after researching it on the web. It is my first battery powered unit after having a Ryobi gas powered unit for about 10 years. The Toro is easy to assemble, and very easy to use. Our home is on a 0.3 acre lot and trimming the grass is needed along the driveway, the fencing, deck and around the flower beds - relatively light work. Overall it takes about 40 minutes to do with the Toro and I still have 3 bars (of 4 bars) of power left. So much easier than a gas powered model and more than adequately powerful. The line advance system works well, including the manual advance, and the conversion to an edger is simple and works well. Very pleased with my choice, including that is does not need to be a gas powered model since it has plenty of power for my needs.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Gheghe Nice trimmer but.....
....don't fool yourself: the full charged battery was drained in 23 minutes of continuous work (trimming around a 400 sq.m backyard) - job 90% done . 5 stars for the machine and 3 stars for the battery.

I'm loving the switch from gas to electric. There is now doubt that this is the way to go. There is no mixing oil and gas. It is a lot quieter than my old gas one, when I get done weed wacking my ears are not ringing and my hands are not numb from the vibration. You also do not have to worry about priming the engine and starting on high throttle to low etc... You just pull the trigger and you are good to go.
I also thought that the electric Toro may be a little on the wimpy side but it feels very powerful. The rotating head makes the edging feature easy and I'm excited to be able to edge all summer long!

Installation was easy and fun. It comes with a wall mount to drill and screw into your garage wall. When you are done with the trimmer, just take out the battery and hang the trimmer on the wall! Very smart. While I was putting it together, I was able to see how well-built this product is. Like I said, my older one was cheap, just enough to get the job done. But it required a cord; I bought two long extension cords just so I could get to the very end of my yard. The string was not auto-feed; I had to continue pushing the release button on the bottom of the trimmer in order to get more string. Also, I had trouble with keeping my floating edger straight in line with the grass on the driveway. I didn't know such a thing existed that addressed and fixed these problems. But now, before you lies a wonderful product, that's cordless, has auto-feeding feature, and rechargeable and has 24V power waiting to attack, AND an attachment with a wheel for edging! So now you can whittle away at your weeds and grass anywhere in the yard for about an hour and finally be happy and proud! I couldn't wait to take it outside and give it a go! My wife followed behind me, curious and skeptical. Typical!
It's very powerful, and the battery life does last over an hour; it didn't take very long to charge! The battery comes with a charger that you plug into the wall. I really enjoy being able to trim and edge freely without a cord to drag along behind me. The auto-feed feature is ingenious ... I can trim and edge with ease of mind; it's never fun whittling down the string and having to manually take it apart to feed the string over and over again! The handle has a trigger that acts as a safety button; you push this before pulling on the action trigger for trimming/edging; my older one didn't have this, and as a result, I ended up cutting things I never really meant to! But this step also starts the auto feed of the string. The wheel guide is a pleasant helpful feature that easily allows you to edge your driveway with ease. The trigger does put some wear on the squeeze of your fingers, but it's not too bad. It's slightly heavier than the older trimmer I had before, but again, not too bad.
So, my only concern as it has been in the past with most electronic tools is, the battery shelf life. Lithium batteries are better with holding a charge and not losing its capacity as quickly over time, so I feel comfortable in owning this product and using it without fear of it quickly dying. I imagine it will last the next 3-5 years, but I really don't know. Personally, I think it's worth it; you're not having to waste gas or oil, which usually leads to more maintenance problems over time. Whereas with this, you just replace the battery with a new one, and continue on! As far as battery life per use, I was able to edge the driveway and parts of the street, and touch up various areas around my yard, in about 30-45 minutes, and I still had 50% left (there's an indicator on the battery to show this, I like that!).
Overall, I enjoy this product a lot! The 24V power, the cordless capability, auto-feeding string line, and the wheel edge guide, all make this the perfect product for touching up and edging your yard with ease and enjoyment!
