The length of the charge will depend on how much you have to do and how hard your working it. A full charge takes about 45 to 60 minutes, which if working it hard with heavy edging in clay soil I don't mind recharging as it gives me a break and I can do some clean-up while the battery is recharging. If I edge my 500+ feet and trim every other cutting I can do it all on one charge. This winter I'm going Read More

Usually, I get about an hour and some change before it needs recharging. It only takes about 3-5 hours, probably less, but I just put the battery on the charger over night and come back to it in the morning when I'm ready to mow the lawn and edge the yard.

Answer:
you can get a replacement spool #88532 at Home Depot. I'm not sure every store carries it so I would check. It was originally used for the old model 51486 but it also fits this model 51487. I decided to buy .065 monofilament string and restring the old spool. I haven't had to change it yet though. The instructions on that are in the Operator's Manual. Hope this helps.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Perfect for the job. It does the job and holds a good charge. I am very happy with this model. August 2, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Works Great Has a lot of power. Takes about an hour to charge and lasts about 2 hours of use, depending on how tough you use it. Does a good job at edging as well. I was also surprised about how the weight of it felt. Its not so heavy that its hard to hold for a long time but its also weighted nicely so that you don't have to hold it back. The battery charger locks in and has wall mounts so you can actually mount the charger to the wall. The unit also comes with its own wall mount which makes it easy to store. June 7, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Love battery over gas!! I like this trimmer over the gas because of the weight difference. It isn't as powerful as my gas but it's all I need for my yard. I like that I can trim in shorts, I couldn't with my old one because it threw everything all over. The auto feed doesn't work like stated but I can use manual feed, which I like better that hitting it on the ground. I also like that I don't have to pull to start!! June 16, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Performer I have had in the past Gas powered String trimmers and found them too noisy This product just fits my needs perfectly .It is light weight ,battery gives me 35 minutes of continuous operation , and then I switch over to a spare . I groom 400ft of rock walls on my property and I'm very happy with this product. Plus my wife enjoys using it around the flower beds May 31, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Waste of Money The battery failed on my Black & Decker Grass Hog cordless edger/trimmer after many years of excellent service so I decided to replace it rather than purchase a new battery. After a thorough research of both Black & Decker and Toro, I decided to order this model online. It is cheaply constructed and somewhat difficult to assemble and does an inferior job of edging. I have no choice but to return it. Furthermore, it wasn't packaged in a cardboard shipping box and delivered by UPS with only a shipping label attached to the store box. UPS didn't ring the doorbell and the box with the contents clearly identifiable, was left on my front porch, not good since I live on a very busy street. Needless to say, I will not order anything online from Home Depot again. I did go to my local store first and because they didn't have this item in stock or any sales person to help me, I resorted to an online purchase. April 18, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Making the Change From Gas to Electric I'm loving the switch from gas to electric. There is now doubt that this is the way to go. There is no mixing oil and gas. It is a lot quieter than my old gas one, when I get done weed wacking my ears are not ringing and my hands are not numb from the vibration. You also do not have to worry about priming the engine and starting on high throttle to low etc... You just pull the trigger and you are good to go. I also thought that the electric Toro may be a little on the wimpy side but it feels very powerful. The rotating head makes the edging feature easy and I'm excited to be able to edge all summer long! Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by It Trims, It Edges, and it Works Great! Installation was easy and fun. It comes with a wall mount to drill and screw into your garage wall. When you are done with the trimmer, just take out the battery and hang the trimmer on the wall! Very smart. While I was putting it together, I was able to see how well-built this product is. Like I said, my older one was cheap, just enough to get the job done. But it required a cord; I bought two long extension cords just so I could get to the very end of my yard. The string was not auto-feed; I had to continue pushing the release button on the bottom of the trimmer in order to get more string. Also, I had trouble with keeping my floating edger straight in line with the grass on the driveway. I didn't know such a thing existed that addressed and fixed these problems. But now, before you lies a wonderful product, that's cordless, has auto-feeding feature, and rechargeable and has 24V power waiting to attack, AND an attachment with a wheel for edging! So now you can whittle away at your weeds and grass anywhere in the yard for about an hour and finally be happy and proud! I couldn't wait to take it outside and give it a go! My wife followed behind me, curious and skeptical. Typical! It's very powerful, and the battery life does last over an hour; it didn't take very long to charge! The battery comes with a charger that you plug into the wall. I really enjoy being able to trim and edge freely without a cord to drag along behind me. The auto-feed feature is ingenious ... I can trim and edge with ease of mind; it's never fun whittling down the string and having to manually take it apart to feed the string over and over again! The handle has a trigger that acts as a safety button; you push this before pulling on the action trigger for trimming/edging; my older one didn't have this, and as a result, I ended up cutting things I never really meant to! But this step also starts the auto feed of the string. The wheel guide is a pleasant helpful feature that easily allows you to edge your driveway with ease. The trigger does put some wear on the squeeze of your fingers, but it's not too bad. It's slightly heavier than the older trimmer I had before, but again, not too bad. So, my only concern as it has been in the past with most electronic tools is, the battery shelf life. Lithium batteries are better with holding a charge and not losing its capacity as quickly over time, so I feel comfortable in owning this product and using it without fear of it quickly dying. I imagine it will last the next 3-5 years, but I really don't know. Personally, I think it's worth it; you're not having to waste gas or oil, which usually leads to more maintenance problems over time. Whereas with this, you just replace the battery with a new one, and continue on! As far as battery life per use, I was able to edge the driveway and parts of the street, and touch up various areas around my yard, in about 30-45 minutes, and I still had 50% left (there's an indicator on the battery to show this, I like that!). Overall, I enjoy this product a lot! The 24V power, the cordless capability, auto-feeding string line, and the wheel edge guide, all make this the perfect product for touching up and edging your yard with ease and enjoyment!
