What is the battery comparability of the Toro 24V tools?

I'm looking to buy a few 24V tools - trimmer/edger (#51487), hedge trimmer (#51496), and electric blower (#51702). Are the batteries interchangeable between these tools?

Yes, the hedge trimmer, string trimmer, and blower use the same 24V lithium battery.

12 in. 24-Volt Lithium-Ion Shaft Trimmer and Edger is rated 3.7 out of 5 by 95.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Battery sucks Bought 1 year ago, used 1 season in small back yard and battery wont recharge. Expected more from a name like TORO.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Making the Change From Gas to Electric I'm loving the switch from gas to electric. There is now doubt that this is the way to go. There is no mixing oil and gas. It is a lot quieter than my old gas one, when I get done weed wacking my ears are not ringing and my hands are not numb from the vibration. You also do not have to worry about priming the engine and starting on high throttle to low etc... You just pull the trigger and you are good to go. I also thought that the electric Toro may be a little on the wimpy side but it feels very powerful. The rotating head makes the edging feature easy and I'm excited to be able to edge all summer long!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from no more smelling like gas I always used gas trimmers and edgers, so I was apprehensive about this product. My fears were lifted, especially after the second use. The first use I was just trying to adjust, but the second time I adjusted the way I cut and learned to advance the line automatically. It is plenty powerful and not having to pull the gas trimmer cord to start after many pulls, is so convenient. The button to switch to the edger is so simple to use. Not having to mix gas and oil and just recharge the battery after use is another plus. I was able to get all of my trimming and edging done with one charge. I can honestly say this will make my life so much easier this summer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It Trims, It Edges, and it Works Great! Installation was easy and fun. It comes with a wall mount to drill and screw into your garage wall. When you are done with the trimmer, just take out the battery and hang the trimmer on the wall! Very smart. While I was putting it together, I was able to see how well-built this product is. Like I said, my older one was cheap, just enough to get the job done. But it required a cord; I bought two long extension cords just so I could get to the very end of my yard. The string was not auto-feed; I had to continue pushing the release button on the bottom of the trimmer in order to get more string. Also, I had trouble with keeping my floating edger straight in line with the grass on the driveway. I didn't know such a thing existed that addressed and fixed these problems. But now, before you lies a wonderful product, that's cordless, has auto-feeding feature, and rechargeable and has 24V power waiting to attack, AND an attachment with a wheel for edging! So now you can whittle away at your weeds and grass anywhere in the yard for about an hour and finally be happy and proud! I couldn't wait to take it outside and give it a go! My wife followed behind me, curious and skeptical. Typical! It's very powerful, and the battery life does last over an hour; it didn't take very long to charge! The battery comes with a charger that you plug into the wall. I really enjoy being able to trim and edge freely without a cord to drag along behind me. The auto-feed feature is ingenious ... I can trim and edge with ease of mind; it's never fun whittling down the string and having to manually take it apart to feed the string over and over again! The handle has a trigger that acts as a safety button; you push this before pulling on the action trigger for trimming/edging; my older one didn't have this, and as a result, I ended up cutting things I never really meant to! But this step also starts the auto feed of the string. The wheel guide is a pleasant helpful feature that easily allows you to edge your driveway with ease. The trigger does put some wear on the squeeze of your fingers, but it's not too bad. It's slightly heavier than the older trimmer I had before, but again, not too bad. So, my only concern as it has been in the past with most electronic tools is, the battery shelf life. Lithium batteries are better with holding a charge and not losing its capacity as quickly over time, so I feel comfortable in owning this product and using it without fear of it quickly dying. I imagine it will last the next 3-5 years, but I really don't know. Personally, I think it's worth it; you're not having to waste gas or oil, which usually leads to more maintenance problems over time. Whereas with this, you just replace the battery with a new one, and continue on! As far as battery life per use, I was able to edge the driveway and parts of the street, and touch up various areas around my yard, in about 30-45 minutes, and I still had 50% left (there's an indicator on the battery to show this, I like that!). Overall, I enjoy this product a lot! The 24V power, the cordless capability, auto-feeding string line, and the wheel edge guide, all make this the perfect product for touching up and edging your yard with ease and enjoyment!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Powerful with many features! Wow! Ok, apparently I’ve never had a high-powered, battery-operated trimmer/edger before! They aren’t kidding when they say the 24-volt battery provides twice the power than a traditional battery- operated model. Very impressive! Let me begin with the assembly….very easy to follow instructions until I got to the latch that goes to the adjustable handle…it took me forever to get the holes aligned so the screw could be pushed through and then tightened. This actually is my only “con”. Now for the pros: I love the 1-step button that you can use to easily switch from trimmer to edger in a matter of seconds, LOVE that option! (You simply press the button and it releases automatically and you’ve just gone from a trimmer to and edger, that quickly….that easily.) It has an auto-feed trim line and also has a power-saver feature that adjusts the cutting width for 10” from 12” for longer running time. Oh, another cool feature: Battery has a charge indicator light which lets you know how much battery life you have left…I don’t know about you but that’s huge and so much better than just going along and suddenly, battery dead! You have to read all the details on quite a few trimmers & edger’s to find out that they don’t come with a battery; this model comes with a battery and a charger. Oh, one last thing. I didn’t see this next feature mentioned anywhere, so was pleasantly surprised when I pulled it out of the box: a wall-mounted holder for the trimmer. With two Phillip-head screws (included) you mount the holder to the wall and when not in use, you have a place to hang your trimmer….a great plus! If you have tried a battery-operated trimmer in the past or haven’t, at all because you don’t think it’s powerful enough….you need to consider this product. I think you’ll be glad that you did. I sure am!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Toro Got This Right Toro makes great products, no doubt about it. This combo string trimmer/edger is great for small-medium sized yards. 1. It's light, certainly much lighter than a traditional gas powered model. 2. Easy to switch between edger and trimmer. 3. Charges quickly and has a light that lets you know how much charge is left. It seems like you can get about 45-60 minutes out of one charge. 4. Powerful enough to do all that you could realistically expect. It's a 24 volt battery, which helps over other models that are powered by an 18 volt battery. 5. Quiet and very little vibration. 6. Stores away by simply hanging it on the wall. 7. The straight shaft makes getting under bushes/shrubs much easier compared to a curved shaft. I would definitely recommend this to a friend.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Left much to be desired Overall the trimmer worked decent, being that I have never owned a battery powered trimmer I didn't know what to expect. The trimmer has nice features to be able to trim and edge, the swap is easy with a push of a button. Two items where the trimmer lacks is the battery life and trimmer line gauge. First, I have a smaller yard and a full battery did not make it till the end. I was very disappointed since the trimmer has a 24v lithium battery, I expected to get more time from the battery. Second, the trimmer line gauge is a lot smaller than most trimmers which means you go through more line. All I would say is try the trimmer and if it doesn't work for you take it back to HD as they have a no hassle return policy. I returned the trimmer for a gas powered Echo and have had no problems since the switch. I hope this review helps.
