Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Of the edgers I have used over the past 45 years this is my favorite. I have now used this edger for 1 year without any problems. The automatic line feed is great. There is no need to tap the edger on the ground to advance the line. I was somewhat skeptical of the 0.065 line, but it has never broken since I have used it. Having the tilting head with a wheel for supporting it while you are edging is very helpful. Note: The edger is used twice monthly from May through September to maintain the sidewalks and curb on a 70' city lot. There is also a 20' driveway that is edged. The lawn is a combo of St. Augustine and Bermuda. It works well on both. June 12, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by This Toro Electric Trimmer is perfect for the job. This Toro Electric Trimmer was shipped very quickly. Also the price is reasonable. This trimmer works wonderfully, I couldn't be happier with it. June 25, 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Too heavy As a weed eater it is alright, however, it becomes very tiresome because of the weight. A gas weed eater has counterbalance which this does not. I found I had to switch hands frequently and holding it suspend was difficult. Using the Toro as an edger only fair performance. I would not set off any fireworks for this item. March 17, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by HELP!!!! Can't find Spool Retainer Cap for this 14 inch 5 amp corded string trimmer PLEASE HELP!!! I ordered this trimmer online in late summer 2013. After about two uses, the trimmer stopped running completely. My brother checked it out, said there was a shortage, and fixed it. I asked no questions. MY PROBLEM IS I CANNOT FIND A SPOOL RETAINER CAP that will fit this trimmer - probably because you cannot get it in stores. The following week after the trimmer stopped, the spool retainer cap broke. Do you think I just purchased a lemon? I have been to every Toro and non-Toro carrier in a 50-mile radius in north Alabama looking for the correct size spool retainer cap (carrying the weed trimmer with me) to no avail. Finally I got online - ordered the part from the Toro dealer - I ordered 3 extra just to be on the safe side. Would you believe they sent me caps that will not fit onto the spool - too large. Can someone PLEASE HELP ME find the correct size spool retainer cap - my yard is growing up. I live alone, am a female, and do all my yard work. Overall, I really like this weed trimmer - it is that I am just disgusted trying to find this part. If you can help, please post on this site. Thank you in advance for your help. gg April 15, 2014
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by This product is not up to comparable products The machine is too heavy for continuous use. The spool is almost impossible to restring when the cord breaks. I had to use a screw driver to get the spool cap to release. The cord release button does not work. I bought this on line so I did not realize how heavy it was but I would caution women to seek a lighter weight product. March 9, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Heavy, Unbalanced, Difficult to Use The Toro model #51480 is the most difficult-to-use grass trimmer I've ever experienced over some 40 years of trimming and edging. Because of its unusually heavy motor weight, poor balance, unsure edging due to the wheel being affixed to the bendable trimmer guard, I found it to be inferior both as a trimmer and an edger. Edging was especially disappointing: not only was it unsure (difficult to maintain a straight and even cut), but it surprisingly threw grass and dirt into my chest and face. Where simple trimming is concerned, the weight of the electric motor made it difficult to maintain an even cut. I'm returning it to Home Depot. Hope this helps you in your search for a trimmer. Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by I loved this trimmer until... I was totally pleased with the ease of use and the cutting ability of of this Toro electric trimmer! But, unfortunately the cap covering the string spool is a thin plastic pop-in that has already worn away, leaving no way to hold the spool in. I loved this trimmer so I was willing to just order a replacement cap. That is until I discovered that there is no replacement cap to be found in the parts list! (Or anywhere else I looked.) I am so disappointed in this obvious design flaw! Now I have a perfectly good trimmer that can't be used!! June 15, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by My First Trimmer & It's Great! My husband has a professional expensive gasoline trimmer and it does do a good job. However, I have not and will not attempt to use it for several reasons. I'm a 69 year old lady and like to do things on my own. Now I have my own electric Toro Trimmer. No gasoline to buy, no expensive battery to replace, just plug it in and start trimming. Did the whole front yard the first day and the back yard the second. The edger is the best part and is easy to operate and stay in line. Love it and so glad I made the purchase! August 2, 2012
