I purchased this unit because it was listed as a product that could handle my size yard, had the attachment feature and a respected name ( Toro ). The product was fair when it would start but it would only start on about a tenth of the times I waned to use it. Most days I just gave up and walked away. Finally yesterday I took the thing back to Home Depot and am now researching trimmers again. When it did run it did a decent job but the vibration was overwhelming and limited the minutes I could use it. I am in decent shape for my age but after attempting to start the thing I have to beleive there has to be sometihng better than this. Stay away from Toro trimmers.

Prior weed wacker I owned was an MTD 31cc 2-stroke and this commercial grade weed wacker engine even with a smaller 25.4cc beat's up my old MTD Weed wacker, not just a little.. alot!
Couple pulls to prime / choke and 1st pull on half choke start's right up. Let it run an additional 5 to 10 seconds before setting the throttle to Full and this weed wacker really roars. The amount of power this little engine put's out is amazing & the starting is A+++ plus 18in cutting path is best in class, what more could you ask for?
This weed wacker in my opinion is equal to an echo of the same spec's for at least $100 less and $80 less for the upgraded full-blown Toro commercial weed wacker.
4-year residential warranty, quality of materials are excellent for this price point. I figured this weed wacker would be a whimp compared to my old MTD 31cc 2-stroke weed wacker and this Toro is alot stronger.
I also re-strung the line & the "Tap" on ground feature worked perfectly even with line that is a little bit thicker than suggested by Toro. I'm a now a former MTD buyer as Toro will be my 1st choice of lawn care product's. Love this Toro 51978!!

Compared to my old weed whacker this model is a beast when it comes to power.
My edger fits, which is a plus, it takes about 1 tank of gas for the break in of the engine so if you get one of these don't be discouraged for the lack of power during the first few uses.
The only down side is that the recoil rope is to short and the plastic wing nut used on the clamp for the front handle.
Overall its a great machine and cuts down on my time trimming.

I just bought the trimmer. Used it once and the spool line already broke off and I had to take it apart to feed the line through the holes again. Now I cant get it to automatically feed when you push down on it.

This is my second, Toro 2- Cycle I have bought. The price has gone up from that I see at 179.00 which used to be under $100. This size trimmer only last 1 season. After that have fun with continued tune up to get the engine started. Advice once your arm gives out from muscle failure from continue pull cranks of a no-start just used your other good arm and throw it just to show who the boss is.

I bought this used twice. Had to replace broken head. Got that fixed. Used again. Fourth time, rope that starts it pulled out and did not go back in. To the shop again. First shop said it could not be fixed. A friend fixed it. Used again. Rope pulled out again. At that point I gave it to friend because I was ready to throw away. So basically I was out about $250 for weed eating about 5-6 times.
