Customer Questions & Answers

is the engine a Briggs or a kohler? You list both.

Asked by: Anonymous
I just called the store and they think they carry the parts. The mower is new and is out of the store warranty but it keeps stopping shortly after starting like it is choking. The filter cover popped off and the mower ate it before I could catch it. I checked the filter and it is clean. I have clean gas and the oil that came with the mower was used. Does the mower with the Kohler shut down if it is low on oil or the governor is not working?

I have mowed about 2 acres of grass in the last few weeks. Works great, simple one or two pulls to start. Fairly quiet. The self propelled front wheels give you a little extra help only when you pull the integral lever. So you control just how much and how fast the wheels turn. Love the 22" cutting path, surprising on how 1" can make a difference as to how many passes you are required to make. Will never buy a 21" mower again. The side discharge or rear catch is very convenient, I rarely use the catch bag. We have too much ground to cover. This is a good value mower, highly recommend it ,

Rated 1 out of 5 by from worst mower ever Ive had this lawn mower 3 years now and it never starts without working on it . I have to clean the carb every time i want to use it . This is the second carb too and now it wont start again after storing over the winter even though has was drained while storing. It still looks almost new but its junk im so tired of working on this mower . I had always wanted a Toro amd this was a treat to myself after using cheap mowers with no self propel for years. Always heard Toros were the best but obviously they are the biggest piece of junk out there . What a let down

After I put it together, I noticed that the handle was bent. This caused the controls to be loose and fall out. I did my best to bend it back into shape, but the controls are still loose. It did start up right away, but when I started to mow and engaged the sel-propelled power, it was weak and I still had to push it a lot. If I thought Home Depot would accept it as a return after about 30 minutes of use, I would bring it right back. I should have bought the Honda.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worst lawnmower I've ever used The only good things about this mower are it's easy to put together and it's self propelled other than that it is a hunk of garbage. The bar you hold onto when using it is ridiculously short if you are over 5'10 be ready to have a broken back. Im 6' and it barely comes to my waist. Also the highest setting for the wheels is way to short and will constantly stop the blades while mowing. The bag that you use to pick up with is so small I can't cut a quarter of my lawn without it filling up. Plus the way it attaches to the mower is terrible too and misses just as much grass as it picks up which leads to even more stopping the blades from moving. It literally took me 2 hours to cut my lawn with this thing and my lawn is not super big. If you dont have a small lawn and you arent short do not buy this thing it was a huge waste of money

The only problem was the packaging from the factory. All the little parts for the handle were loose in the box and as such a carriage bolt for the handle was missing so I had to go to the hardware store to buy one. Also, the way the mower was packaged in the box was suspect at least. The corrugated inserts to hold the mower in place did not work as the mower shifted in the box. On a lighter note, the mower does start on the first pull.......also, I like a Kohler motor over a Briggs.....

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Bought this unit a couple of weeks ago. Got it out of the box and noticed the cable for the self... Bought this unit a couple of weeks ago. Got it out of the box and noticed the cable for the self-propelled mechanism is too long and almost hits the wheels. That made me nervous. My wife tried it the first time and the grass clippings blew out the top of the bag and became a real nuisance. Checked bag to be sure it was in the slot but clipping still came out the top of the bag. Took bag off and grass clippings were bunched up at the bottom of bag. Quite a bit. Defeats the purpose of collecting grass clippings. Disappointed with this mower. Guess should have bought the Honda. Had a Hi-vac self-propelled rear bag Snapper for about 13 years with no problems.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Comfortable, Reliable, and Lightweight This is the 4th time I have bought this model over the last 15 years; however, that is not because of quality or repair issues. The frame on the first was warped while involved in a traffic accident, the second was lost in a divorce, the third was gifted to a friend in need of a good lawnmower, and this purchase is my fourth. In particular, I enjoy the guaranteed start feature and the leisurely self-propelled walk behind pace.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from GAS CAP LEAKS! Purchased this mower based on cost/value analysis. Worked as advertised as far as starting on the first pull. However, the gas cap leaks uncontrollably causing the mower to stink up my garage and house for days after a cut. I have tried reseating the cap and filling it up less, but still leaks. I've spoken with friends and family members who coincidentally own a Toro with the same Kohler engine and GUESS WHAT, they have leaky gas caps too! Surprising to hear that the folks at the local Home Depot have never heard that complaint. I suggest reading the internet reviews prior to purchasing this mower. The Home Depot reviews are a little less harsh and fluffed.
