Customer Questions & Answers

is the engine a Briggs or a kohler? You list both.

Asked by: Anonymous
I just called the store and they think they carry the parts. The mower is new and is out of the store warranty but it keeps stopping shortly after starting like it is choking. The filter cover popped off and the mower ate it before I could catch it. I checked the filter and it is clean. I have clean gas and the oil that came with the mower was used. Does the mower with the Kohler shut down if it is low on oil or the governor is not working?

Have fresh gas, new spark plug, new air filter, still won't start?????

I had the same problem and found out that if I tip the mower over sideways(carb down) for a couple seconds , it will start right away - must be shooting a bit of fuel into the carb.

After I put it together, I noticed that the handle was bent. This caused the controls to be loose and fall out. I did my best to bend it back into shape, but the controls are still loose. It did start up right away, but when I started to mow and engaged the sel-propelled power, it was weak and I still had to push it a lot. If I thought Home Depot would accept it as a return after about 30 minutes of use, I would bring it right back. I should have bought the Honda.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from GAS CAP LEAKS! Purchased this mower based on cost/value analysis. Worked as advertised as far as starting on the first pull. However, the gas cap leaks uncontrollably causing the mower to stink up my garage and house for days after a cut. I have tried reseating the cap and filling it up less, but still leaks. I've spoken with friends and family members who coincidentally own a Toro with the same Kohler engine and GUESS WHAT, they have leaky gas caps too! Surprising to hear that the folks at the local Home Depot have never heard that complaint. I suggest reading the internet reviews prior to purchasing this mower. The Home Depot reviews are a little less harsh and fluffed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So far so good Bought this mower 3 weeks ago and have used it 3 times and couldn't be happier so far. Started right up on the the first pull the first time out of the box and every time since. Cuts and mulches well. The self-propelled mechanism is easy to operate. I can depress the lever just little for a leisurely mow or more for a faster mow. If I depressed it all the way I'd be practically running but I assume this would be very helpful when bagging and the bag begins to fill since the weight would slow it down but it would keep propelling forward. Especially with wet grass. Anyway, we'll see how it starts at the first mow next spring.

I use strictly as a mulching mower with no bag attached once every 5 days during mowing season. Light, easy to maneuver and wonderful at mulching leaves and leaving little residue. Easy start and simple to use for an old guy like me at age of 75..

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worthwhile purchase Purchased this product to replace its predecessor (same make and model) that's served me admirably for 14 years. The newer version as expected offers a few improvements. I was impressed with the ease of assembly of the new unit along with the fact that although manufactured last year and shipped from Mexico it started on the first single pull of the recoil starter cord. A minor detraction is I've noticed the self propel drive bar is slightly different than the former making it just a little harder to operate at least for me. The engine on this later version is different which actually is of little consequence as it runs equally as well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great self-propelled mower. I've never owned a self-propelled mower before so I wasn't sure what to expect. What I wanted was less effort to mow. And that is exactly what I got. I have steep slopes on the sides of my new property and this mower handles them with ease. It's nice to not be out of breath after mowing too. This makes the whole process so much easier. I had read that for a sloped yard, it was better to get the 'big wheel' version, as that allows for better manoeverability while mowing. Overall, a very good purchase. Only used it 3 times so far at the new house, but working really well for me. Mulcher is working well too, and it chops up the clippings nice and fine, making it easy to empty and dispose of.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Unless you like to tinker with gas engines, AVOID this mower The engine used for this mower is not reliable. A few months after I bought one of these, the carburetor stopped working. In spite of the "Guaranteed to Start" sticker, the engine would not start. The reason was the carb needed to be cleaned. I understand this type of engine is known for this carb problem. And while there are many helpful videos on youtube which attempt to help you through the ordeal of cleaning the carb I was not amused that I had to do this. So, if you don't like doing things like taking the carb apart and leaning it, (or paying someone else to do it for you), I'd avoid this mower because of it's finicky engine.
