Customer Questions & Answers

How does the performance/power compare to a 25cc 2-stroke trimmer?

Asked by: Bobby
I have a fairly large yard with a chain link fence that which allows for thick growth of the grass along it. This trimmer is more than able to take care of the job that my previous 25cc Weedeater gas trimmer did and then some. It also wacks the weeds on the side of my yard without any problem. I am very pleased with my purchase and highly recommend it. My wife also loves it as it is much easier and convenient for her to use than our previous trimmer. The battery life is good and it recharges very fast even though I have not needed to do that for my yard. The only draw back I found was the trimmer proctector. I found it was too long to allow for the trimmers to do their job as I needed it done. I solved that problem by unclipping it from the trimmer and it all works well for me now, hope that Toro is able to adjust this design glitch by making one that is smaller by about an inch or two, This is by far one of the better trimmers I have owned.

The 'start' for this trimmer says it has a push start. What is that? How is that different from other trimmers?

Asked by: Anonymous
To start the trimmer you press the mechanism on top of the handle and then the one underneath. I believe this is more for safety. Hope that helps.

Is there a design problem with this trimmer. It seems toro is not trying very hard to get this product to the market place.

Asked by: Anonymous
The battery is not consistent. You might get one that lasts a long time or, like me, one that lasts about 20 minutes.

48V Max 13 in. Dual Line String Trimmer is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 108.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from So far, So Good, but So Odd I've used the string trimmer once since receiving it 1 week ago. So far, so good, (battery seems to be functioning properly, it cuts as it should, etc) but please tell me what engineering or leadership knucklehead approved the odd design/function that every time you restart the trimmer, it automatically advances the line?!?! So here I am walking around to the various cutting sites with the unit running so I don't use more line than I need. Hey Toro - I am really capable of advancing my own line. I'll circle back on a month or next season and update this review if I can.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Makes a great Wall hanging Worst purchase I have ever made battery would not power long enough to cut a 10x20 spot of grass/weeds in my front yard. My problem is doubled I bought two in a mower deal. The mower is great. But the 48v trimmers are the worst timmers I have ever owned. Could not contact the salesman to get any help.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The next big thing in lawn care? I have never before written a review.. but I spent so much time researching this, that I hope I can save others my pain. Like everyone else on the planet Ive only ever used gas machines.. (battery models are brand new). So it scares me. I havent yet seen a well written review, so I will try my own. My lawn is a well manicured suburb lawn, with minimal tall, gnarly growth. I would find any reason NOT to buy a gas machine: repair bills, wondering why it won't start, pulling the cord for an hour... So I really hoped this battery trimmer would be 1/2 way decent. But it's superior. It destroys my St Augustine grass when I am not carefull. It has far more power than I will ever need. It starts immediately, it's half the weight, half the noise, no fuel ratios, no buying gas at all. I am confident that even if I had significant brush, this machine would still be my first choice. I have a brush line behind my house, this thing chews it apart like you would expect a gas machine to. WHAT I LIKE: Power, destructive explosive power. Instant starts in any weather. Zero maintainance, no repairs bills worth half of the purchase cost. Charger has a "storage-mode" so I am not ruining the battery. Light weight, makes it almost fun to work. I would never fire up a gas unit if I missed a small spot in the lawn.. but I can cut a small area in the time it takes to START a gas unit! While my yard is not huge, I "feel" like I could cut mine and my two neighbors' yards on a single charge. (but I'm not gonna try to). Even has a built-in notch to hang it on the wall. Metal head, not plastic. IMPROVEMENTS? (these are negligible) 1. Battery. Although they are pricey, and who knows how long it really will last- I feel it will cost less than gas/oil/repair bills even it lasts ONLY 2 yrs. So no big deal. Battery wins.. unless it dies in a year (doubtful) 2. I use this as my edger too. Is it possible to have a rotating head (for edging) like the Ryobi model and still be reliable?? I dont know, but that would make this Toro legendary! I went to the store set on buying the Ryobi. But the Toro was clearly a better LONG term purchase. It does a good enough job edging anyway, so reliability wins over convenience. 3. Auto-feed string. Love this feature! So easy, completely automatic. But, Ive notived the replacement string-spools arent cheap, so I dont want to waste string. Don't know if I can refill the string myself. Not the end of the world.. not cheap, but goes a long way. Why would I pay MORE for the Toro than a gas unit?? For me, this machine is superior. The ONLY instance that a gas powered trimmer would be better is commercial use, or someone with major major overgrowth. It's not cheap, but it will save me $ long term, the same was an electric car saves on gas and maintainence. 5 stars. The only faults this Toro has pales in comparison to faults of any other string trimmer. I love this machine.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from as powerful as a gas trimmer I had a gas trimmer which had a similar dual line and this one also has as much power, due to a variable speed control which you can increase to the max depending on the thickness of the grass. It has a cast alumimum head so I expect it to last a long while. The battery charger has a mode for storage - if you put it away for a month or more it will keep it slightly charged, which will increase the life of the battery. My first use I turned it on its side and used it as an edger, as I did with my gas trimmer. Like I said, this is amazingly powerful for a lithium battery trimmer and it is ready to go whenever you need it, no gas and oil mixture needed. I would also add that it is not too heavy, about the same as my old gas trimmer.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Very Disappointing.....Will Be Returning Only runs for approx. 20-25 minutes per charge even if battery is charged for 24hrs. Often stops & starts, often just stops!!. Very disappointing product. I will be returning

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Battery Flaw The trimmer worked great for a few months before the battery died. The charger tested fine but it would not show that the battery was connected. The board inside the battery appeared to have gone bad as the transistors had different readings. Since the cost of the battery is near the same cost of the trimmer it is not worth it to replace. Could have been a great tool but its back to gas powered for me.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from AWESOME TRIMMER WEEDWACKER !! Through the years, I've tried every type of trimmer but this is the first one that impressed me. The gas type was too loud - the corded type was useless for our 2 acres of flowers, trees and bushes - the "As seen on tv" cordless was okay for very small jobs but it was not for thick weeds. This Toro, however, has so many good features and it performs wonderfully! Didn't think I'd ever say that I enjoy trimming the weeds! It is a bit heavy because of the 48V battery, but well-balanced and the long shaft makes it very easy to use --even for a senior lady. I would gladly deal with a heavier tool that really works rather than a lighter one that behaves like a toy. It is not too noisy, and the variable speed allows you to use full power only when needed for heavy duty trimming (this really does extend the running time). We have some tough weeds here in the mountain area, but this Toro trimmer has no problem taking care of them. The string automatically advances 1/4" each time the unit is turned on (or you can manually advance it). It's not a big deal, but I hope Home Depot will have the pre-wound spools available soon so I don't have to keep winding them myself with the .065" string. I really love the status lights on the battery so that I know when I am nearing the end of running power (although the charging time is super fast, took less than an hour). The wholesome charger is well made, with status lights on it and a chart explaining the LED status. Storing the battery for periods longer than a month is no hassle because the charger has a "Storage Mode" which keeps the battery in good condition by keeping it at a 40% charge. (No more guessing whether I should charge the battery during the winter months!) I did learn that the battery must be snapped into the trimmer completely until the lock clicks!! At the first try, the unit would run for a few seconds then stop -- because the battery was not locked in!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just as powerful as my old gas trimmer I was hesitant that a battery powered trimmer could handle the grass and weeds at the back of my property. I couldn’t have been more wrong! There’s plenty of power to cut through tough weeds and the battery life is remarkable. I like the extra long length so I don’t have to hunch over to use it. I like too that I can dial down the power in light areas to conserve battery power. No more mixing gas and oil for me.
