Answer:
Yes- the charger is built in. You simply plug the cord into the outlet and then into the unit. Initially, it takes 24 hours to charge. I worried the battery would make the unit "top heavy" or just heavy in general, but it is surprisingly light weight!

Answer:
I would say you do best the first two hours - after that it's ready for a recharge. One thing I learned from the start. When the trimmer first arrived, I plugged it in to charge it overnight. In the morning, the light was green so I unplugged it. However, I did not use it for several days after that so it had to be recharged again. Now I just leave it plugged in all the time.

I believe the online details say 45 minutes. I have not timed it, but I have trimmed 2 planters, one wall of the house and fence, our raised garden beds, and my husband has trimmed a bit as well- all on one charge!

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good weed wacker for an elderly person This is a good product for light weed wacking. It is easy to assemble and to hold as it is lightweight. I wold recommend it for others. May 24, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by False Hopes Product was... 1. Too heavy 2. Battery not long lasting 3. String too short. April 27, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Toro 8 in. 12-Volt Cordless String Trimmer Very easy to use without the hassle of a cord. Great value. March 29, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Lightweight, easy to use. Designed for thin vegetation (NOT THICK WEEDS/TREES!) I got this to take care of the grass my mower can't reach which is all a weed eater really should be used for. It does this perfectly and there is plenty of battery power to allow me to trim an entire 1/4 acre property which includes both sides of a 50' fence section on the south side of our property. Those that are complaining about this trimmer being wimpy or falling apart are either attempting to cut thick vegetation (more than 1/8 inch thick) or simply don't know how to use a trimmer properly/abusing the trimmer. My trimmer is over a year old and been used on two seperate 1/4 acre lots for weed clearing and grass trimming and has come out with no damage and no malfunctions. November 16, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by very poor quality-I expected more from TORO,mistakenly thought it was an American made unit-WRONG I bought this unit because of cheap price and learned to pay more for a quality unit,I also thought that TORO was madi in the USA-wrong. Total toy quality, underpowered ,cheap plastic, snap together- I wish they wouldn't even make this cheap stuff-I returned mine after less than an hour. I'll get a good American made unit in the spring..... waste of time. September 16, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great ............very .very light weight. Easy to charge and very easy to use. I have a bad back and this is perfect for me to use without any trouble. September 29, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Toro Trimmer Tool appears to be fine after a couple uses. Good for small jobs as trimming around sprinkler heads. Will need to use more to see if weight is acceptable. September 15, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Junk Lacks power and weight to trim evenly. Bump feed only works at best occasionally resulting in many spool removals and rewinds in the hot sun. Will add time and distress to any simple job. Power cuts out if angled. Very poor design, cheaply built and inefficient. Do not buy this product unless you are trying to develop a more colorful yardwork vocabulary. It does charge easily! August 30, 2015
