How much assembly is required?

I bought mine last year and don't recall much at all. I think it took less than a half hour. Installing the handle and chute. Here's a link to the owners manual. https://manuals.toro.com/97461/

I live in West Michigan where we receive a great deal of lake effect snow from Lake Michigan. I clear a large driveway (30' x 80') and move the snow to the side of the driveway. I also clear a large cement patio. The snow blower has started with one or two pulls and runs well. I have not had the need to use the electric start. This has started easily. This replaced a Toro I had from the 80's. The old machine was a two-cycle engine. The 4 cycle engine is a nice change. I was able to move wet, heavy snow as well as light powder snow. The snow easily reaches beyond the sides of the driveway from the center so I do not have to clear the same snow a second time.

Assembly was as easy as brewing a cup of coffee, the 518ZE cleared (8inch deep) snow right to the pavement and more importantly started right up at an air temp of -7 Fahrenheit ,didn't need to use the electric start either. Easily delivered the blown snow right where I wanted, and the units light weight made handling no problemo. The exterior of the 518ze was easily cleaned off after the job was completed.Brand new machine, and it gets the work done as expected, oh did I mention it was easy on gas too!

I purchased this model through the home depot website and had it delivered to the store in manhattan, Kansas store where I picked it up then took it to my place to assemble I took it out of the box , laid everything out and noticed that the axle for the wheels was bent and too long for the space provided so I took the wheel off on one side and took the axel off put it in my vise and straightened it reinstalled the axel had to put a spacer on and reinstalled the wheel which works fine now , finished assembled the rest put oil and gas in the unit and started the unit fired up on the second pull it seems to be fine but it really threw me that the axel was bent on a new unit, time will tell next January.

THe 2" seems to make a difference. Putting it togther was not as easy as some have said. The pictures are not so clear as they are taken from different angles . You do need a tool to tighten the locking nuts. We were thrilled when it started on the first pull. The instructions on how to use it were easy for my husband but not for me. It did do a great job and watching him use it once it was started ( don;t know about chokes). We paid arond $200 less for this one than our old one which was a nice surprise. It is very well built and cleaned our deck with around 8" of snow in a short time.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good for light, powdery show I had a two stage snow blower, but I didn't like it because it was too heavy, and I also did not like dealing with the pneumatic tires going flat. I bought this model because it is the smallest gas powered snow blower sold by Home Depot. Also, it has the Toro name, and I liked that. It weighs only 58 lbs., so I can lift it by myself into and out of the shed, and into my vehicle if and when it ever needs service. A few days ago, we got hit in the Salt Lake City area pretty hard with snow. At my house we got about 14-16 inches of snow, so I was able to give this Toro a real workout. It is not rated for this much snow, plus the snow was quite wet and heavy. Still, it cleared my driveway, but I had to sort of man handle it at times. It struggled and seemed to want to die a few times. I had to work it back and forth to get through the highest areas. I do not fault the machine for this because I was making to do more than it is rated for. The next day after it continued to snow all night, I snow blowed the same areas I had done the day before, and there was only about 6 inches of very light and powdery, newly fallen snow. The Toro went through this like butter. I took me a couple of times of using it to get the knack of the self propelled action from the rotor touching the ground. I found that if I placed my chest against the handle bar and put some weight against it while lifting the back wheels, I could get it going consistently forward without too much effort. I agree with comments form other reviewers about the gas cap. Come on Toro, what were you thinking?! I was down at the end of my driveway when I ran out of gas. It was dark and cold out, and I COULD NOT get the gas cap off with my hand. I eventually had to go all the way back into the house and get a pair of channel lock pliers to get it off. This needs to be redesigned. Safety is one thing, but the gas cap needs to be taken off to put gas in at some point. Don't make it impossible! Whether or not I would recommend to someone else to buy this model depends on what they are after. If you want to go through very high, heavy snow quickly, then get a 2 stage. But if you want something that you can lug around by yourself, then this is a good choice. It gets the job done, but it takes more effort. For me, I like the small size enough that the additional effort is worth it. One suggestion I would make is that I would like to see a snow blower with larger wheels, so it would be easier to push, sort of like those that are on some mowers. Overall this is a good buy with good value for the price paid.

It runs really well but no way to try it out yet but with a 100 ft of concrete driveway and several walkways we'll find out when it snows if it does the job. Husband had one in Utah just like it and said it worked great.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Toro 518z Exactly what i was looking for in a snowblower. The size was perfect and the power too. I previously had a smaller older model a 16 inch 2 cycle and it served me well for 10 years. This was a perfect upgrade for me i live in Staten Island NY. We get different amounts of snow each winter if you live in parts of the country that gets alot of snow the next model up would be better. Toro is a trusted name and my previous one ran perfect leading me to purchase another. Also runs on straight gas no mixing of oil.
