Does this model come with electric start for the $359 price?
Asked by: JayTee
No, the 518 ZR is recoil start and the 518 ZE is recoil AND 120V electric start. It starts with two tugs when the choke is on and the engine is primed. No need for the electric starter in my opinion. Maybe in sub zero temps, but no worries even at 15F with fresh fuel.

Would this work on our unpaved driveway in the mountains? Or will loose dirt and gravel kick up inside and cause damage?
Asked by: COMountainMom
Loose dirt and gravel can kick up, which will cause wear and tear on the rubber impeller (single-stage) or auger and fan (two-stage). It can also be dangerous, as the unit will create projectiles out of gravel rock.

Is this snow blower self propelled?

Asked by: WillieBuyit
It is not self propelled by the wheels but the design of the single stage snow thrower rubber flap allows you to slightly lift up on handle and it will pull itself forward.

Will the rubbet blades cut through hard packed snow and ice

Asked by: Tyrone
It does a very respectable job on packed snow, but not hard-packed snow and ice Two cautions with the latter: 1) they can potentially damage single-stage rubber impellers, and 2) throwing ice debris through the chute is potentially very dangerous.

I went to "change the oil" per the instruction manual and could not turn the 6 sided screw - referred to as the "plug". I am stripping this screw. I called TORO & they were useless & told me to bring it to a service center or Home Depot. Really? Not everyone drives a truck and has a guy around to lift a snow blower in & out of a little trunk. All I want is to change the oil! And, I bought this little blower so I could actually maneuver it up & down stairs ... the others were too big & weighed too much.

It's small enough to wrestle around in tight spaces and powerful enough to really move some material. Make sure you know what's under the snow (ice chunks, dog toys) because whatever it grabs flies out at a high rate of speed. Good, easy starting machine.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very efficient for in-town lot I have had a larger, self-driven machine for many years. My age and a change of residence determined that it was time to downsize. I had misgivings because this machine is so light and not self-propelled. I was very impressed once I unboxed it and used it. It throws snow (piled up to about 14" deep) for MANY feet. The engine barely showed strain despite what I asked of it. Altogether a very impressive little snowblower which, (bearing in mind it is only a few uses old) did start on the first or second pull each time. Very light it is also extremely maneuverable and perfect for blowing snow on pathways, and taking through doorways. No misgivings left.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Too soon to tell. Arrived very well packed with no visible damage to the heavy duty carton. I began the assembly. Seems simple enough. Got to the point where I needed to add motor oil. Rolled the machine about three feet across smooth sloped concrete to a level spot. In just that short span, the wheel fell off and the axle slid out. I looked for retainer cap for several minutes around area. Eventually, I gave up. Went to lift machine and the retainer cap bounced out. I put the axle back in, pushed the cap back on and that is where the machine has been sitting since. Not an impressive start for a machine that needs to do some rugged outdoor work. Will mess with it at a later date.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good product for a good price I have only had to use this once so far this year (thankfully), but it did a great job. Putting it together was fairly simple and didn't take much more than 30 minutes. I am also thankful that it doesn't require an oil and gas mix, makes things much easier. The only issue I had was the bolt that prevents the snow chute from collapsing forward came out in mid operation. I was able to find it and reinstall it tightly, so just make sure to tighten that one up. With proper maintenance and care, I look forward to using this machine for many years to come.

I have a two-family house and my tenants have multiple cars in the driveway so it was impossible for a plow to get in here because the cars would not be taken out at the same time. So I bought this and it's been great. Lightweight, goes between cars, throws the snow a good distance, easy to adjust the throwing chute in the direction you want, starts without problem every time (although if you turn if off and come back within 15 minutes, don't push the choke all the way to the right to restart it - it won't start. Put the choke in normal operating position, toward the operator.) We've been getting a lot of snow in New England and this will pay for itself in one season. Also, it's kind of fun to get out there and throw some snow around.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This machine really surprised me! I live in Maine where winters can be harsh, but I have a tiny driveway, so wasn't looking for a snowblower that was very big. We got more snow this winter than I can remember in recent times! This machine performed beautifully, easily throwing up to 12" of snow (even heavy wet snow). During bigger storms, I would have to clear the driveway more than once, as the machine would struggle with more than a foot of snow at a time, but that's to be expected. I was very pleased and would recommend this for anyone with a smaller area to clear.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great little machine!!! Snow removal is fun!! I recently moved back to Utah and one of the first things I wanted to do was purchase a snow blower. I am so happy with this machine. It has snowed a lot this winter and I have used it many times. It is powerful for being small. It starts easily, which is a big plus for my wife. It picks up well, throws the snow a good distance and makes snow removal FUN! I asked my neighbor if I could clean his walks and driveway as well, just to give me more opportunity to use my new toy. Thanks!
