Does this model come with electric start for the $359 price?

Does this model come with electric start for the $359 price?
Asked by: JayTee
No, the 518 ZR is recoil start and the 518 ZE is recoil AND 120V electric start. It starts with two tugs when the choke is on and the engine is primed. No need for the electric starter in my opinion. Maybe in sub zero temps, but no worries even at 15F with fresh fuel.

Would this work on our unpaved driveway in the mountains? Or will loose dirt and gravel kick up inside and cause damage?
Asked by: COMountainMom
Loose dirt and gravel can kick up, which will cause wear and tear on the rubber impeller (single-stage) or auger and fan (two-stage). It can also be dangerous, as the unit will create projectiles out of gravel rock.

Is this snow blower self propelled?

Asked by: WillieBuyit
It is not self propelled by the wheels but the design of the single stage snow thrower rubber flap allows you to slightly lift up on handle and it will pull itself forward.

Will the rubbet blades cut through hard packed snow and ice

Asked by: Tyrone
It does a very respectable job on packed snow, but not hard-packed snow and ice Two cautions with the latter: 1) they can potentially damage single-stage rubber impellers, and 2) throwing ice debris through the chute is potentially very dangerous.

During the assembly process I noticed the axle was shipped bent, causing the left wheel to roll crooked. Other internet reviewers described the same thing. The owner's manual states to press the primer bulb twice with gloves off before starting. Doing so causes fuel to leak out from the top of the carburetor bowl. At first I thought one or both of the bowl screws was loose, however further inspection revealed fuel was over flowing from the top of the bowl. I called Toro and requested a replacement axle, however I was referred to an authorized dealer and was denied the replacement part. I feel that even though this is a "bottom of the line" machine, it should roll straight, not leak fuel when following the instructions precisely, and Toro customer service could have been more accommodating. It's not like I was asking for a new auger assembly...just an axle.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Cleans wet icy snow to the ground I bought this to clean a 4 car driveway that I share with my neighbor and the the entire sidewalk for my stretch of townhomes. Pro: 1) powerful 2) sweeps and throws snow, wet snow, icy snow all the way to the surface... for packed and icy ground, a slight lift and tilt got the job done. 3) lightweight, very easy to manuever Con: 1) loud. I'd feel rude using this early in the morning 2) recommended upkeep is a handful compare to electric snow blower... with that said, I returned my toro 1800 electric snowblowet and kept this one.

Since the wheels are smaller it can bounce around and get stuck on ice lumps a bit, but it is pretty lightweight so I can move it around easily. I am a maturing female and I didn't want a big machine. It needed it to be easy to operate. I have a three car driveway, so it is a little harder to get the snow to blow all the way over to the side from the middle of 32' wide space. Other than that it throws snow a good 9'. I haven't tried it in wet snow yet.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from It's a no-go Purchased this in preparation of a winter in a house for the first time. With my husband away on a business trip, I assembled this on our first snowfall, having purchased gas two days previous for it. Despite following the directions, it simply wouldn't start at all, and I ended up shoveling several inches with a torn rotator cuff. I called Toro and was told to drive it to a service center- I'm not paying to have the stupid thing "fixed" if it never worked out of the box in the first place! Waste of money and time.
