scraper gap

Does anyone know if Toro has addressed the problem of the unlevel scraper that causes blowback under the machine to the back? I noticed that a lot of reviews mentioned this problem.
Asked by: fieldready
I have owned mine for two years now and only get blowback if I run it off the pavement into the grass or if tilting it too far forward before starting to back it up. The blowback snow is minimal at best and is nothing.Love this machine, can do three driveways in the neighborhood in 45 minutes.

Power Clear 721 QZE 21 in. Single-Stage Gas Snow Blower is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 155.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Second unit is the charm I purchased two of this exact model. The first one 4 years ago when my snowblower died and the second unit just last fall. The power and features are awesome. It is easy to handle, does wet snow well and cleans down to the driveway. The first unit kept fouling the plug and the Toro service dealer kept telling bad gas, ethanol in the fuel, blah blah. I only use a snow blower like 5 times a season so when it doesn't start I'm not a happy camper. The second unit has been fine. I am running only the synthetic fuel in it, it is costly but since I only run it like 30 minutes at a time and only about 5 times a season it is worth it. I really do like this unit a lot. While pricey for a single stage and I very happy with the performance. Provided it doesn't foul the plug I would happily recommend this unit to others.

The Toro PowerClear 721 QZE is an excellent Snow Blower for moving wet or dry snow. It will even break up packed heavy snow. There is some blow-by created by the thrower that occasionally escapes through the rear through a tiny gap in the back as you are clearing snow. This is not really a problem though as all that has to be done is pull back and go over the area once more. I see many people complain about this but like I said just pull back and do a once more over if you really want to be picky about a few cups of snow per 10-15 feet of forward travel. This is a well-made, powerful, easy to use snow blower that produces terrific results in clearing snow faster to save you some time and muscle ache. I used the Power Clear 421 QE that I got for my mother for about 4 years and the only difference between that model and this one is the engine size. The 421 QE has a 163 cc engine, and the 721 QZE has a 212 cc engine. Either model is simple to use and produces great results. To engage the propeller and begin throwing snow you simply pull the engagement bar down to the handle bar. The paddles of the propeller system are rubber, so this can be used to clear most any hard surface without damage to the surface you are clearing. I used it on my wooden deck and it worked marvelously. It will take snow right down to the surface too so if you have a gravel surface it would be wise to use extra caution and make sure your chute is directed in a safe area because the power of the propel system will chute rocks and any hard debris that are in the blowers path. The directional control of the chute is simple to function with the use of your hand just a simple squeeze of the blue actuator release and slide forward or back to direct the chute (the nice thing about this feature is that you do not have to stop to use the function). To control angle elevation of your chute direction you simply step to the chute and depress the blue release lever and move the chute angle elevation up or down (I have used this function without stopping but I find it’s best to just stop and move to the chute to change the elevation). I found the electric start to be a nice feature as well. If you are having difficulty in pull starting (for me every start has been a first full so far) you simply plug your extension cord into the plug in port and depress the red start button for no longer than five seconds at a time and no less than 2-3 seconds. If you have the key turned to the on position, then have properly primed gas with 3 pushes and have the choke to full set the blower should start right up. Comes with easy to follow instructions and is simple to run. Nice product Toro.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Should have purchased it years ago I needed a snow blower because I can no longer shovel snow easily. Didn't have room for a two stage blower. This blower by Toro was great. Does the best between 3-7 inches. Used to move about 9 -10 inches. Did the job but was had to use a little more muscle as it had a little tougher time getting through but it did well for that amount of snow and it beat having to move it by hand. Read all the reviews on the net and decided to bite the bullet and get the top of the line. Folks, if you can afford it over the other Toro models, get it. To be able to change the chute direction and height on the go from the handles without stopping instead of stopping and doing it manually at the chute is invaluable and worth every penny. Believe me on this you'll thank me later. The snow blower is powerful and throws the snow a surprising good distance. Easy to manuever. As easy as mowing your lawn with a self propelled mower except if you have above 8 inches of snow, heavy wet snow or at the end of the driveway after the road has been plowed, then it's a little tougher. Very pleased with the performance. Excellent for it's size. Stores compactly too. The only problem I encountered was the fold up handle and bolt assembly where the knob to tighten and untighten it to fold it came loose and I lost it in the snow. Toro was excellent and sent out a replacement but I wish they used the same type that they use on their push mowers.

Started very well the first year, but years two and three are miserable. Most of the time it won't start, even with fresh gas, priming and working the choke. I've tried numerous ways to figure it out, including reading the manual over and talking with Toro. We got a good 8 inches yesterday, so I worked a few times the day before to get it running and finally did. It started up and worked great in the morning during the storm. However in the afternoon I tried multiple times and it wouldn't start. Almost as if it has a quota for the day. Hit or miss product. Also bought a new mower two years ago from Toro and the same thing - 'guaranteed to start', but it worked the first year and then only works with starter fluid in year two. Sad state because I used to see Toro as a quality product, but now I see it as garbage. I'm inclined to think that it's a result of outsourcing the engine manufacturing to China.

For $700 you would think the blower would have a fuel shutoff and have an electric starter power cord. Fuel shutoff is very important, it helps stop the gas from leaking on your wooden deck when the float sticks open. Lack of a starter cord is just plain cheap and may show the quality of this "expensive" product.

I've had several snow blowers over the years and the Toro 721QZE 21 literally "blows" them all away. The quick directional lever is wonderful---no more bending over. The 4 stroke engine is half the noise of my former 2 stroke engines. I used my new blower several times now and it's well worth it---quality machine!
