Answer:
The QZE model has the quick zip deflector control (hence the "QZ" designation in the model number), which allows you to swivel the chute from side to side from a control lever on the handle. On the 721E model you can rotate the deflector chute but you need to reach down to the chute itself to rotate it.

The 721QZE has the Quick shoot control which allows the chute direction to be changed from behind the machine rather than doing it from the front of the unit and the zip deflector allows to change discharge angle in less than one second, other then this it appears no other differences.

Does anyone know if Toro has addressed the problem of the unlevel scraper that causes blowback under the machine to the back? I noticed that a lot of reviews mentioned this problem.

Unless the lower housing is damaged including the lip area where the scraper bar attaches, this machine does not blow any snow back underneath the unit. In fact, this is one benefit over a 2 stage snowblower, where the skid plates need to be adjusted to just keep the scraper bar elevated over the pavement.

The rubber paddle just reaches the pavement to help pull the unit along, and to clear the snow right down to the pavement surface. Just replace the paddle and scraper at the same time when they wear down since they work in concert to keep the paddle at the correct height. Read Less

Started very well the first year, but years two and three are miserable. Most of the time it won't start, even with fresh gas, priming and working the choke. I've tried numerous ways to figure it out, including reading the manual over and talking with Toro. We got a good 8 inches yesterday, so I worked a few times the day before to get it running and finally did. It started up and worked great in the morning during the storm. However in the afternoon I tried multiple times and it wouldn't start. Almost as if it has a quota for the day. Hit or miss product. Also bought a new mower two years ago from Toro and the same thing - 'guaranteed to start', but it worked the first year and then only works with starter fluid in year two. Sad state because I used to see Toro as a quality product, but now I see it as garbage. I'm inclined to think that it's a result of outsourcing the engine manufacturing to China.

I've had several snow blowers over the years and the Toro 721QZE 21 literally "blows" them all away. The quick directional lever is wonderful---no more bending over. The 4 stroke engine is half the noise of my former 2 stroke engines. I used my new blower several times now and it's well worth it---quality machine!

The Toro PowerClear 721 QZE is an excellent Snow Blower for moving wet or dry snow. It will even break up packed heavy snow. There is some blow-by created by the thrower that occasionally escapes through the rear through a tiny gap in the back as you are clearing snow. This is not really a problem though as all that has to be done is pull back and go over the area once more. I see many people complain about this but like I said just pull back and do a once more over if you really want to be picky about a few cups of snow per 10-15 feet of forward travel. This is a well-made, powerful, easy to use snow blower that produces terrific results in clearing snow faster to save you some time and muscle ache. I used the Power Clear 421 QE that I got for my mother for about 4 years and the only difference between that model and this one is the engine size. The 421 QE has a 163 cc engine, and the 721 QZE has a 212 cc engine. Either model is simple to use and produces great results. To engage the propeller and begin throwing snow you simply pull the engagement bar down to the handle bar. The paddles of the propeller system are rubber, so this can be used to clear most any hard surface without damage to the surface you are clearing. I used it on my wooden deck and it worked marvelously. It will take snow right down to the surface too so if you have a gravel surface it would be wise to use extra caution and make sure your chute is directed in a safe area because the power of the propel system will chute rocks and any hard debris that are in the blowers path. The directional control of the chute is simple to function with the use of your hand just a simple squeeze of the blue actuator release and slide forward or back to direct the chute (the nice thing about this feature is that you do not have to stop to use the function). To control angle elevation of your chute direction you simply step to the chute and depress the blue release lever and move the chute angle elevation up or down (I have used this function without stopping but I find it’s best to just stop and move to the chute to change the elevation). I found the electric start to be a nice feature as well. If you are having difficulty in pull starting (for me every start has been a first full so far) you simply plug your extension cord into the plug in port and depress the red start button for no longer than five seconds at a time and no less than 2-3 seconds. If you have the key turned to the on position, then have properly primed gas with 3 pushes and have the choke to full set the blower should start right up. Comes with easy to follow instructions and is simple to run. Nice product Toro.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Quality Control of assembly poor. This was not the first Toro product I have purchased but the first one I have not been pleased with right out of the box. Within 5 mins. of using the 721 QZE blower the right wheel came off the axle. With 6 inches of snow in my driveway I could not find the Wheel Axle Push Nut Cap that held the wheel on. Being a mechanic I drilled a hole through the axle and installed a washer and cotter pin to reinstall the wheel securely. I also did the same to the left side to prevent that side from doing the same. I suggest this form of installation should be standard on all axles like this. You know the wheel is a big deal.
