Answer:
No battery. Need the cord or use the pull start. Both work well - but it's brand new so why wouldn't it start easily.

Answer:
To use the electric starter, connect a power cord to the electric starter plug-in first and then to a power outlet. Use only a UL-listed, 16-gauge extension cord recommended for outdoor use that is not longer than 50 feet (15 m). Take your time because some steps/directions are not accurate, I was slow about this and took about 45 minutes.
Please take your time and do it right so it stays together for many many years.

It took me about an hour, but I was slow and had never seen one assembled, never owned one, and had no familiarity with the process. Nevertheless, assembly is really quite straightforward.

Answer:
Double check my info, if I recall correctly, it is one or more of the following: bigger fatter tires, headlight and/or more CC's {horsepower} the 826 OTE is rated at 11.5 horsepower. Get the highest horsepower you can afford. I have to throw heavy/slushy snow at times and am grateful for the extra power.

Answer:
Both the OE and OTE models have an overhead valve engine and electric start. The difference between OE and OTE is the extra wide traction tires. The Power Max 826 OTE is equipped with a headlight as well.

Customer Reviews

Rated 4.6 out of 5 by 125 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Better than anticipated Just bought it and we get hit with huge snowstorm. Rated for up to 12", but I overslept and the snow was 22" when I got outside to try the new 826 OTE. Incredible - 1 pull start (It does have electric start, too) and it was off and throwing snow with abandon. Toro forgot to tell this machine that it was only rated for up to 12". Snow still coming down and after a neighbor's driveway, I was going through snow 3' deep. Slow, yes. But it doesn't get clogged. I'm amazed by this machine. January 23, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by It's a Beast. I like it a lot. I've used the snowblower in light snow and heavier snow, 4" deep to 12" deep. Even on slushy, packed snow. It's been great. Great power and handling. The ease with which I can redirect the discharge is a big benefit because I have to make a lot of turns. This stick shift control works nicely (although it frosted up on me a bit while I was working during a wintery mix storm). Starts well with a pull or with the electric start. Let's see how well it lasts. I sometimes have to throttle it down to avoid throwing the snow so far - yes, I realize the discharge flap is adjustable too. The unit has a lot of power and is a good product, so far. I've only had it for two weeks. February 3, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by My second Toro, because the first was so great There was some minor assembly after delivery. I had a small problem attaching one cable. I called my local Home Depot. I took the machine to them and they checked over the whole machine. They even put some gas in and fired it up to make sure everything was in working order. They said if I had had it delivered there, they would have done the assembly for free. The machine works great! It is more powerful than I expected. I live in Maine and have always had to deal with plenty of snow. My old snow blower is a Toro. It's still running after 35 yrs. It had 4 forward gears. It only runs in 2 now, but throws snow better than my neighbor's. I bought the new one for another house. January 21, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Works great! I have used this snow blower now a few times this winter and it does a nice job. I always read the lowest ratings first and I don't know why people are complaining about how hard it is to start this blower. I read the manual once and now I know how to start it. It starts great on the first pull every time. I haven't needed to use the ele. start but when I tried that it work as well. It works very easily on my property here in West Michigan where we get a lot of Lake Effect snow. I use it on my side walk and large circle drive. Very easy to switch the chutes direction on the fly. It's my first Toro product I am a Deere guy but I would buy another snow blower from them. Hopefully not in many years from now though. February 1, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by What a Great Snowblower! The snow blower came in a nice heavy duty box with great protection. Base of the container was a solid wooden skid. The box had great directions for opening and getting the blower out and ready to put together. The overall blower was fairly simple to assemble and (nicely) all the parts were there. Even came with the crankcase full of oil... nice plus. Love the fact that this is an electric start but does not have a battery to worry about during the non-use season. Plug it into household current, push the start button and it starts right up. This is the first walk-behind snow blower that I've owned and it will move a lot of snow in a short period of time. With all my research before buying this was one of the top units in this price range. I certainly pleased with it so far. February 10, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great purchase I ordered this the night after we got 3 feet of snow. Amazingly it arrived before the next storm and we used it for that storm and the next 2 after that. It lived up to its other positive reviews. March 10, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by No Regrets Replaced my 27 year old 22” Honda Snow thrower with the 26” Toro Power Max 826 OTE. My first use was the 2015 Blizzard in the north east. I can’t say enough about this Toro, it’s an animal! It handle 2 feet of snow with ease. I did have to knock down some higher drifts with a shovel, but for the most part this machine performed great. All the controls worked great and It was also great on gas. January 27, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Glad I purchased the Toro {and the higher end model} The anti-clogging system works very well. Love the joystick to put the snow EXACTLY where I need to put it. Starts very easy and is not as loud a my other non-TORO model snowblower. This TORO is great a throwing heavy slushy snow. I did my research and this machine is worth the extra cost, I buy products that are GREAT investments and this products fits that bill. February 3, 2015
