Customer Questions & Answers

Power Steering

Can the power steering be shut off? My driveway isn't smooth and I don't want to be fighting trying to keep it going straight.
Asked by: Sugarworks
As long as you don't engage the power steering, you will remain on a straight course.

Is the headlight on this model LED

Asked by: joeyd
No. It is a GE 899 halogen bulb. The bulb is circa 38 watts and is very bright. The 899 bulb is used on a lot on GM vehicles for the fog lights so replacement bulbs are easy to come by.

Is this snowblower (power max HD 928 OHXE) a 26" or 28"?

On the Home Depot website it says 26" and on Toro's site, it says 28".
Asked by: Eric
Just had mine delivered. It is 28 inches - it is a good sized, heavy duty snow blower.

Asked by: Staffsarg
It does for me - I am awaiting some type of resolution as I was unable to push 3 or less inches of wet snow thru the cute without constant clogging.

Power Max HD 928 28 in. OHXE Two-Stage Gas Snow Blower is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 57.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from I had been looking at both the Toro and Ariens models for some time. Both are great snow blowers... I had been looking at both the Toro and Ariens models for some time. Both are great snow blowers and are highly rated. Was looking for a made in USA snow blower too and both brands met this requirement. I decided on the Toro Power Max HD 928 because of a couple things: I liked the Toro steering system better than the Ariens' autosteer system. The Ariens' autosteer system seems finicky and per some of the Ariens' users, it can be tough to control. Toro uses a simpler left and right level system on the handles and it worked well during my test. I also like the Toro's chute control as it is very easy to use with one hand. My local HD store does not stock the larger Toro models so I ordered the 928 online. No issues - it took about 7 days to arrive via Estes Trucking. The driver had a tailgate lift and pallet jack on his truck. He put the box in my garage - nice! The box arrived in great condition with no damage. Assembly took about an hour which including unpacking and reading the instruction book. The assembly really just consists of installing the top handle and control panel section. Was easy to do - just using basic tools like a 7/16 and 1/2 socket. There are a couple small clips that need to be installed when putting on the drive selector rod but was straight forward. I also bought both the Toro non-marking skid and drift kits. The skids are made from heavy duty plastic and replace the factory steel skids. The plastic skids will not mark up the driveway. The plastic skids were easy to install and the kit came with all the hardware. The drift cutter kit consists of a couple upright supports and a cross-bar. Installation requires drilling 2 each 5/16" holes on each side of the bucket. A template is included in the kit. Very easy to install and the drift cutter is very sturdy. It also has a nice black power coating finish that should hold up over time. After assembling, I checked the engine oil and added a little bit of gasoline to the fuel tank. The oil is factory filled and was right at the correct full line. Starting the engine is very easy - couple pumps on the primer, set the choke and throttle controls and gently pull the starter rope. The engine started right up and ran smoothly. No issues. The engine does have an electric starter and I have not tried it as the engine is easy to start with the pull handle. The 928 also has a light mounted on the handle and it is on when the engine is running - no on/off switch. It uses a standard GE 899 halogen bulb which is also used for car fog lights. It is a 38 watt bulb so it is pretty bright. The 928 has electric hand warmer grips on the handle. There is an on/off switch for the grip heaters and they work well. After a couple minutes, they were warm enough to be comfortable. Be nice to use them when it is cold and snowing as my fingers can't take the cold anymore. Overall, the 928 is a great snow blower and I am very happy with it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I purchased this snowblower in preparation for our first Montana winter. All-in-all, assembly in... I purchased this snowblower in preparation for our first Montana winter. All-in-all, assembly instructions were clear and easy to follow. We received 13 feet of snow (156") between December 2016-March 2017, and this snowblower performed flawlessly! Whether light-weight or heavy-weight snow, the auger and discharge chute performed well. The Toro ALWAYS started in any weather; the coldest outside temperature start was single-digits. There's an electric starter plug-in, but I always used the manual recoil starter. We have a gravel driveway, with a slight grade. When it iced up, the snowblower tires did slip a little once in a while when going uphill; however, I did not feel that the problem warranted putting on chains to help out with traction. Money well spent on this snowblower, which was my "best friend" during heavy snowfall.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This machine is a beast in the snow. I highly... This machine is a beast in the snow. I highly recommend it. But this purchasing experience was all about the great customer service from Home Depot. When I got the machine home, I had to assemble it. No big deal, attach the handles and hook up the controls. I opened the box, as per the instructions on the carton to find that the assembly instructions/operator manual along with the parts bag was nowhere to be found. As there was a snow storm bearing down on us that night, I was not too happy. The customer service rep at the store told me they would not be able to provide these items since it was an internet sale and they do not carry this model in the store. She gave me the corporate phone number and a tip for skipping through the automated menus. I followed her directions and ended up talking directly to their customer service rep in short order, She was amazing! I was very upset at the time and she calmed me down quickly with her friendly demeanor and helpful attitude. She was able to email a pdf of the manual immediately and looking at what was need to assemble the snowblower, she sent a gift card to cover the cost of buying these items locally to get by with until the real parts were delivered. Bottom line, I got the snowblower assembled so I could use it the next morning to clear my driveway. Thank you Home Depot Customer Service Reps!!!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Broken control cable New snowblower, unboxed today. One of the control cables had been bent in two and broken, so the snowblower is inoperable for the time being. Contacted Home Depot online - the rep was helpful but advised that Home Depot *cannot* guarantee that a replacement part will be sent and to contact Toro instead. Contacted Toro, and the recorded message said to contact a local authorized repair shop. Now I have to somehow get my new snowblower to a repair shop somewhere in the region. Big hassle.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Dominated Winter Storm Jonas I've been wanting a snowblower for a while and finally decided to pull the trigger this fall. I was initially looking at a smaller Toro two-stage but decided to upgrade. Setup was easy and it started up within the first few pulls. We've had a mild winter and it sat up until this weekend. I tried it early on in the storm after we got our first foot of snow. The machine was awesome. The heated handles were great. With temps in the mid teens and 40 mph winds my hands were nice and warm. The power on this thing is awesome too. When I went out towards the end of the storm we had about 30" on the ground. There were a few areas that I didn't get on my first go around that this thing powered right through. I thought this machine may have been more than what I really needed but after this storm I was so glad I upgraded.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great purchase! The product required only a few wrenches and was easy to assemble. It was easy to maneuver through 20 plush inches of wet, slushy and heavy April snow. It cut through the slushy snow and threw it 20 plus feet without clogging the spout.
