Customer Questions & Answers

Do you have to walk forward with mower?

Can you pull it backwards without turning it off
Asked by: Anonymous
Yes - you can pull it backwards, but it does require a little more effort than going forwards because there is no help from the engine.

does engine continue to run when blade is stopped?

when releaseing the handle does the engine continue to run avoiding restarting.
Asked by: Anonymous
Yes the engine continues while the blade is stopped. This allows you to empty the grass catcher without stopping the engine and restarting it.

Recycler 22 in. Personal Pace Variable Speed Gas Self Propelled Mower with Blade Stop System is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 2743.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from 8 years strong Such a great mower. I have a large St. Augustine yard plus a separate lot full of random weeds and grass types, which the Toro Personal Pace is tasked to handle. This mower seldom disappoints. Keep the blade sharp and you will be good to go. Everyone told me the 1-2 pull promise was a promise sure to dissapoint. On my 8th year, after sitting for 3 months, I pulled the mower out, filled it with gas, and it started after 1 pull. I am still surprised each time it starts, as I have had my share of mowers that have killed my arms trying to get the motor to turn over. If/when it is time to replace, I likely will not even shop around. An atypical sentence to me as I am an avid "research it to death before I buy" person.

I mow an acre of rough terrain (lots of roots, rocks and uneven terrain). I add oil, but not one bit of maintenance. Nothing stopped it! So when I finally decided to get a new one, the rear drive wheels were pretty well worn (tread) and the front one's were a little wobbly. The engine still ran, though about six months ago, it started to need a couple of pulls to start (always started on the first pull till then, but 7.5 years of hard use, and little care will tend to do that to any equipment). A fraction of the price of a Honda, but I doubt even that mighty brand would have lasted much longer or performed better. Excellent piece of machinery for the price....or any price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lawn Recycler Extraordinaire If you're like me, you work long, soul crushing hours in middle management , but you still don't make enough money to pay someone to mow your lawn. Enter the Toro Personal Pace Recycler 9000 (I added the 9000 part, because it deserves it). Again, if you're like me, you know you need the 190cc engine from the get go, as there will be times you let the lawn go just a little too long before mowing. Even when the grass is over a foot high, this little fella powers through it. I also like the rear wheel drive, which gives me power while turning. For days when you haven't had all your energy drained by your job, the personal pace system is great - you can almost jog with it. For days when you have just enough energy left to drag it out of the garage, the personal pace system lets you go slower. Not to mention I have yet to be forced to pull the chain more than twice to start it. It's apparently decently fuel efficient. I can mow my 1/3 acre lot with plenty of gas to spare. I believe I've actually mowed twice on the same tank of gas on occasion. After two years of abuse, and basically no maintenance, it's showing no signs of quitting. I haven't had to tighten anything or adjust anything (other than wheel height, based on how high the grass is). All in all, I consider it a good buy. I included a picture of the mower next to the German Shepherd that fills my house with dog hair. Expect a new vacuum cleaner review soon.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from This product is a breeze to start-up! Overall, I'm impressed with this lawnmower and will recommend it to anyone. It's a breeze to start-up, doesn't burn through gas like other mowers, easy to adjust wheel heights, no oil changes and does a great job cutting the grass. The only downside was the first couple of lawn mows this year with the grass being a bit higher than usual and a little damp. The mower kept shutting off on me and I had to tip it over to clear out the grass that was clumping up in the inside/around the blades. I tried bagging but that didn't stop it from choking. If only the side drop could stay up, I think that would have allowed the grass to blow-out the side.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Do not buy Guaranteed to start should be changed to "guaranteed not to start at some point". If you buy this mower and use it in any type of dusty environment you will need to Google "Toro mower does not start" or something similar when it stops starting. You will then get instructions on how to clean up the fuel system so it starts again. It works fine after I cleaned it up but I suspect this will be an annual requirement. My other mower is a competitor to Toro, is around 5 years old, and starts more reliably than my brand new Toro. Personally, I will never by a Toro product ever again but I suggest you do you own research and make your own decision.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Beginning second mowing season Just started using for second season. Tank was emptied last Fall and restart this Spring was difficult. Let it sit for a few days and it started on first pull. Would have been nIce to have a "Troubleshooting" section in manuals to reference. Otherwise, no major complaints. A few minor complaints. Controlling machine in close areas is a bit difficult. No plug to change oil in deck. Manual instructs to only add oil as necessary but old-fashioned mowers prefer to change periodically. Turning machine upside down is a bit cumbersome. On the plus side, the machine starts easily and the bag to mulch conversion feature is very handy and nice.
