Customer Questions & Answers

Kohler vs. Kawasaki

I was wondering what if any difference there is between the engines. I am looking at the 50 in. Hvy. Duty deck or standard deck with either engine pairing. I'm mowing about 3.5 acres in S. Florida of medium to heavy crabgrass with weeds and Bermuda grass where we turn out our horses. Very little underbrush except along fence line. Thanks

Kawi is definitely the better engine!!

What makes this OK for terrain and hills?

I am looking to get a new mower and wanted a ZTR. I rented one and had a hard time on hills. Not just turning but going down then and maintaining traction and straight line. This mower (as opposed to other that say flat) says it works on terrain and hills. Is there something different about the drive that makes this work on hills?
Asked by: Mowerdude
Traditional zero turn mowers have front caster wheels making it more difficult to drive in a straight line when mowing across a sloped surface. The Toro TimeCutter zero turn tractors have steerable front wheels that make them perform very well on sloped surfaces. Toro recommends that the TimeCutter zero turns not be used on slopes greater than 15 degrees.

TimeCutter MX5050 50 in. Fab 24 HP V-Twin Zero-Turn Riding Mower with Smart Speed is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 65.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Value zero turn. Period. Should have bought this a long time ago. Have had it for a year now, and this mower cuts fantastic. I made the jump from a traditional rider to the zero turn, and I'll never go back. I researched for several years, and the Toro is what I kept going back to. It's a few bucks more then some of the other models (even entry level Toro), but this is well worth it. But that being said, I got more features and value than more expensive zero turns. The Fab cutting deck, better trans boxes, better seat...don't skimp. Oh, your welcome Toro - I know I have personally sold 3 over the last year just raving how my MX5050 performed. Neighbors are jealous. I Added: Bagger kit & Striping Kit

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Zero Turn This is the best mower I have ever purchased since my last TORO. I have a 1974 TORO Wheelhorse that runs as good as new and never did a thing to the motor. That is why I insist on a TORO. It is worth every penny paid. There are many cheaper zero turns out there but not as good as a TORO. I only have had my Zero for about a year and it is GREAT and comfortable to ride.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good mower for the money After researching and comparing priced I decided to purchase the Toro MX5050. The fact that it has a serviceable hydro and a commercial engine on it were the deciding features for me. This is my first zero turn mower, with the traditional rider (42" deck) it took 3 hours to mow my yard, now I can have it mowed and the mower cleaned up in just a little over an hour!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from MOST ZERO-TURN FOR YOUR MONEY I did lots of research before ordering this mower. Some of the key components I wanted were mowers that had a welded deck, that obviously should hold up better. I wanted the bigger seat as well, since I'm 6'4". The 3 speed setting might be ok for a beginner, but after you have mowed 3 times, you will see that you can control the speed in the higher setting, down to a crawl. I wanted headlights, which it did not have, so I figured out the square tube between your feet made a good mounting spot. I put off road lights, and there is a predrilled hold that can be found by taking the control switch panel off, that allows you to install a switch. I had a regular lawn tractor before, and this cut the mowing time way down. You can almost fly if your grass hasn't got too big. The foot assist deck raiser might be ok if you are very weak, but I just use the hand control. The motor has an automatic choke, and an hour meter. The hour meter is good to know when to do maintenance.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great from pre-purchase to continual use. I did a great deal of research on about every zero turn out there. After I settled on this one I then determined who to buy from, online as it turned out. I got the mower with free delivery to my home, no sales tax and great financing. There are good deals out there with a little research. I also got the rear bagger system, delivered free as well. I have used the mower one full season and a few times this year. It performs very well and the bagging system works great. I have a good acre to mow with hills and a few pretty good slopes. No issues. It starts quickly and handles with ease. You do have to watch turns as it has a lot of power and will spin the wheels, but once you get the feel for it you can avoid that. My cutting time is down to a little over an hour from 3 hours. And that is running at the suggested middle speed with the bagger. The 50 inch deck size is nice if you have some tighter places to get into. I am very happy with it at this point and recommend it.

I am absolutely convinced that you cannot find a better zero turn riding mower at this price point. The MX5050 is very well built and simple to operate. Not to mention comfortable as well. Maintenance is straight forward. Give yourself a little time and read the manual. It's easy. As with any mower, cutting a wet lawn is, in my opinion, messy and dangerous due to traction issues. I recommend clearing accumulated clippings from the top of the mower deck after use. I removed the two deck pulley covers (very simple) which tend to trap grass within. I cut our 1.25 acre lawn for 12 seasons with a brand X 48" lawn tractor and hated it. The penalty was severe for being late on a cutting requiring slowing to a crawl. Tall grass not a problem for the MX5050. Last May we went on vacation for two weeks. My wife asked, "What about the lawn?". I said "Not a problem for the Toro". And it wasn't. There's snow on the ground now and I have to admit I'm yearning for grass cutting season to begin.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great mower I bought one 3 or 4 years ago and it came with a Kalwasasi motor I liked it so well I bought another mower just like it last year but with the koher motor so far it is doing great. Those are the best mowers I have ever owned.
