Customer Questions & Answers

Will it fit through a 48" wide gate?

The gate posts are exactly 48" apart. the gate swings clear and the hinges do not protrude into gate area.
Asked by: MDTerp66
As with the first response, "yes", if you lIft the deflector. And, if you forget to lift the deflector (as I do sometimes), it is soft enough that it bends itself around the post.

how good is the bagger and do I need it

Asked by: len
I thought about using a bagger with this mower, but I'll be honest, it does such a good, NO....AWESOME, job at mulching that you would never need to bag. If you get the mowing pattern down, there is really no debris left to have to bag...it mulches REALLY well. I replaced a John Deere riding mower w/Cyclone Rake set up with this mower and I will never go back!

Front Tire Size - full size info

The tires for this mower are 13"x5" - 6 as printed on the tire itself. However, what is not provided is the hub size/length. I want to buy foam filled tires that would replace the stock air-filled tires (air filled one has an annoying leak that requires me to fill it each mow). Can anyone provide that info so I don't have to take the tires off to measure?
Asked by: IHEARTHD
The hub is 6” in diameter by 3.25” wide. If you are having problems keeping air in the front tires, for the best ride quality and overall performance, we would highly recommend putting a tube in the tires (Toro part number 232-46). We do not approve the use of any other tires with this mower and it would void the warranty.

I have a pond and a slopped lawn, how is lawn mower on this slopped area? is one better than the other?

Ideally I would like to buy the 32" lawn mower, yard is not that big and we have a pnd and the yard slopes down to the lawn.
Asked by: ejh3rd
Zero turn mowers should not be used on slopes greater than 15 degrees and should only be used a safe distance from ponds. A TimeCutter with a steering wheel will have better traction on slopes than a TimeCutter with lever steering because you can control the turning of the front wheels unlike when they are caster wheels on a lever steer model. We have a 32” and 42” version available with a steering wheel. If your slope is greater than 15 degrees, you may want to consider a walk behind mower instead. We have many to pick from including one that is 30” wide. TimeCutter SW4200 42 in. 22 HP V-Twin Zero-Turn Riding Mower with Smart Park - CARB is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 90.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Over engineered and under thought I bought this mower at the beginning of the summer used it once. The first time I used it almost all the crankcase oil drained out. The easy crankcase drain was installed improperly. I didn't use it for a couple of months and it would not start. The battery was dead. The neat automatic brake is a parasite and will drain the battery if the mower is not used regularly or the mower is stored for the winter. The only solution is to disconnect the battery. With the battery is dead or disconnected it is impossible to get the brake to release to push the mower

Rated 3 out of 5 by from This product cuts very well The mower does not need the mulching attachments, it does well as is with its side chute. Easily controlled on hills and straight away. Use a trickle charger one week a month and the battery is always ready to perform. Reverse interlock works excellently. Only problem I have had is the deck falls off. It has come off 4 times, dislocated from the rear hinge and sits on the ground. I have tightened the front locking bolt tighter and it has stayed on longer, but now it does not cut as close to the ground in the front. Otherwise I am pleased.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from First Season Fun! Great machine. Cuts nice. Purchased the bagger addition. Only advice is purchase a battery charger. Problems starting at times. Battery wears down. A charge the night before cutting is called for.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Buyer beware! I purchased the SW4200 with the Kohler engine through Home Depot of Placerville, CA, after reading lots of reviews and verifying it was US made. It appeared to be a good mower, and I still like it. It was delivered to a Auburn, CA, assembled there, and then delivered to us in Pleasant Valley. Within a few months of operation, the mower started acting "squirrelly." While mowing, the mowing deck would shut off for no apparent reason (light mowing load). The automatic parking brake would come on and stay on. The engine would stop running, all for no apparent reason. The nearest "authorized service" was True Value on Missouri Flat road, an hour round trip, and NO, the warranty , according to the True Value, does not pay for someone to come get your mower; you have to figure a way to get it to them, which may mean renting a trailer (if you have something with which to tow a trailer). I suspected a sensor was failing intermittently, but the service center told me it was the battery that was the culprit, and Toro would not cover the replacement. After some conversation they ended up replacing the battery at no cost to me. I can only guess that Toro did not pay them. It did not take long for the mower to start misbehaving again. After several months of just living with intermittent failure, the mowing deck finally refused to engage, so I took it back to the same True Value, and it wasn't until I had already unloaded the mower and was at the service counter that they told me they were "no longer a Toro authorized service center." Really??? The only other "local" place, Placerville Polaris, told me over the phone that they would only cover "parts and not labor on a warranty repair for my Toro." That sound like a good warranty to anybody? I sent an email to Toro asking "why" and was sent a canned response telling me where the warranty information was located. As in, my question was never addressed. The next nearest "authorized service center" is that True Value in Auburn, CA, approximately a 3 hour round trip twice, once to drop it off, and another to pick it up. Ergo, it might look like a good warranty on paper, but when you go to get it repaired under warranty, you may either need to "jump through hoops," or just pay out of pocket for the repair. Not trying to imply that this is a common experience, but this IS what happened to me.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from great steering, poor mulching I had always been impressed with the job my neighbour's "green machine" would do on his lawn - awesome mulching on even 6" grass, whereas my old crapper always left grass lumps. So was stoked to take delivery of a SW4200 recently, anticipating a reliable zero turn unit with the power and performance to do a thorough mulching job. I'm disappointed to report (after installing mulching kit) it does a fair to poor job of mulching grass that is not long (have been cutting every 6 days) which makes me wonder whether my unit is deficient/defective in some way as I'm not reading these complaints elsewhere on this page. Given my investment, I would really appreciate a visit from a regional Toro rep to assess the unit's performance, and look forward to reporting back post-assessment.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not for all yards I would not recommend this for those who have sandy soil, which I have. The first day out on this machine I got stuck twice...really stuck! I thought if I changed the tires with a different tread than the tires that it came with that might solve the problem, so I contacted Toro who said I could not put different tires on my machine. Then I was told by Toro that this Zero Turn was not meant for sandy soil. Our soil is not Beach sandy, it is loose soil that has sand in it. I checked the Toro website and the Home Depot website and nowhere on either does it say anything about this. I also called the dealership in my area who told me the Zero Turn was meant for golf course type lawns and nothing else. On the good side. I called Home Depot and they immediately set up a return and had a freight company come to the house and pick it up. I didn't have to pay for the return and will be getting all my money back I spent on this mower.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worse Mower I've Ever Owned I've owned a Time Saver (42" Steering Wheel version) for a year. It is heading back to the dealer for the 3rd time. Forward - Reverse cable sticks and the mower will not move. Cable has been adjusted once and then replaced. Seems like a design flaw. I plan to try and get a full refund and go buy another brand of mower. Not happy with Toro at all.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I recommend this mower highly. I have only taken it "out for a spin" four or five times (about 2+ hours), so I realize it will take a while for me to "learn the foot controls", so this is coming from a rather novice user. 1. When you release the foot pedal the machine automatically applies the "brake" rather aggressively. It will take a while to learn right pedal control for a smooth stop. 2. This is a "zero turn" but not "zero mow". I quickly learned that you cannot encircle any size obstacle because the rear wheel encroaches the object, and gets hung up on it. You need 4-wheel steering for that. 3. I like that I can bypass the PTO shut-off for reverse (a lot of ware 'n tare). I'd rather leave it engaged. 4. I was really surprised how really stable this machine is on slopes. It is much more stable than the lawn tractor I had previously. The steering holds the slope very well. I suspect it is also little wider than the tractor was even though they are both 42" models.
