What is the difference between the two 42" models the SWX4250 and the SW4200?

Asked by: Joe
Wow they gave you a bad answer. The SWX comes with a fabricated deck instead of stamped. It also has the higher end seat. Sorry, I'm not sure what other differences it has.

What do the lap bar models have Smart Speed and the steering wheel models not?

My biggest concern is switching from a Craftsman Garden Tractor style to the SWX5050 is that I use it for just driving up and down my riverbank as much as i do mowing. Also pull around a small dump cart a lot. I thought the Smart Speed was for protecting the transmissions when in tow mode vs mow mode?

There is no difference. We use the C model for some special tracking on home depot.com and it is not supposed to be visible. Please order the 74795. Thank you.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great mower I have had my Toro 50-50 with the heavy duty welded deck for two years and mow an acer on a farm with mole hill everywhere that pile dirt up to 10 inches high. No problem just try to mow when it is dry. If not wash the mower when done. This mower is comfortable and tough. Some times I mow grass and weeds 24 inches tall. It may take a second cut but it cuts it. Thank You Toro. Toro cuts it.

I have a little over 3 acres that are hilly (none more than 15 degrees) so I needed a rugged mower. Reading the questions, I saw that someone else had a similar situation and the Toro rep recommended this mower so I ordered it. The product shipped quickly and arrived ahead of estimate. The White Glove service provided was fantastic and we were given a tour of the features and informed how to operate. I took it out and was impressed at how well it performed. Used for two more weeks when it started to tear up my grass and leave ruts. It appears that one of the transmissions died (fluid was dark brown). Since this occurred in less than 30 days, I opted to return the unit. I also note that the unit I received was a 2015 and this was purchased in September 2016. The return process was not very smooth. The company (a different company than the one that delivered it) arrived with a box truck but had no way of loading it. They rescheduled, this time dropping a pallet off first (separate truck) and then sent the same truck with a lift gate as the one they originally sent. I guess the plan was to load the mower onto the pallet, then use the pallet with the lift gate where part of it would hang over. The problem was that they did not provide a mechanism for getting the mower on the pallet. I ended up backing the unit onto the lift gate where the assistant and myself lifted the front (luckily the weight was all in the back). I expected a more professional pickup than I received. Coordination was via Text messages..... argh!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best decision I've ever made This mower is perfect for me. I mow a 3/4 acre lot with a lot of obstacles and it works perfect. The bagger never clogs unless the grass is really wet and long and I am surprised at how much grass it will hold. This mower is fast and cuts the grass perfectly even going full speed. I love the fact that you can mow in reverse due to all the obstacles I have it makes it much easier. The smart park is also handy when jumping off the mower for whatever reason. I bought a suicide knob also which makes it easier to turn the wheel. This mower was also easy for my wife to learn who didn't have any experience with mowers.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good mower. Some caveats. Good zero turn mower. I love the steering column. But there are some caveats: 1. It's one wheel drive. For such a big and expensive mower, it really should at least be two wheel drive. 2. The starter and control wiring are unprotected right above the drive wheel. So, if a stick gets caught in there and runs around the tire... it will rip-up your electronics. DESIGN FLAW. I am on the fence whether I recommend this or not. I suspect the other mowers are just as poorly thought out. If the terraign is utterly not-challenging, this mower is great. If there is any variability in your terrain, rough patches, etc... you are taking a risk with this mower. I love it when it is not broken. Finally, and I don't know if it is just me, but the mower keeps coming unhooked from the raise and lower bar. And that is annoying.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Mower I am as picky as it gets when it comes to purchasing a product. Bought this mower after a lot of research and I am so glad I did. I have 2 acres with slopes, tight areas, and some rough parts. This mower handled every area and then some, I used a pull behind previously with tav that took over 2 hours to cut. Cut the lawn for the first time in 45 minutes. Awesome mower and wouldn't hesitate to purchase this mower for any need.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Steering Wheel gives Zero Turn better control IMHO I believe a well designed mower should only need a hose connected to the deck port and the remainder rinsed off after use and the operator should NOT be filthy from simply operating it as designed. If I were going to design a mower, I would build it and mow with it. Then I would see where grass and debris collects or emanates from and re-design those areas or parts to correct the problem. This mower was NOT designed in this manner. Problem areas: 1) Top of the deck (especially the pulley covers), this is so bad that you will be covered in dust/dirt from your crotch to your ankles. 2) Frame rails fill up for the same reason. 3) Front of machine above steering rods (not supposed to use water to clean this area). 4) Seat has arm rests but are too low for any practical use. 5) Side discharge deflector gets in the way (I mostly use the recycler kit to avoid this). It's still a recommend because of the huge pluses of zero turn with steering wheel.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from This zero turn mower is a great choice if you want the steering wheel version. **Note that I have only had the Toro for 5 months. If you get the recycling kit, they block the discharge chutes so you do not have the option of also getting the grass catcher accessory. It is too early in the fall for me to know how it will handle the fall leaves (I live in PA.) but I'm hoping I won't have to purchase a leaf sweeper which would double my mowing time. It has handled a light layer of leaves so far. Not recommended for older females. PROS: -very fast -comfortable -comes with a hitch -easy maneuverability around trees CONS: -even with discharge chutes covered it throws enough clippings into the flower beds to require more frequent weeding -much harder to turn the steering wheel than expected -loud -with longer grass, leaves a narrow strip unmowed in the area of the middle of the dual blades requiring a second pass -the steering wheel was installed incorrectly (not sure if this is just cosmetic or affects the steering)
