Yes it will work with Non-Toro timers. I have an Orbit brand timer and was very easy to install as my timer box had the 2 wire connections for the sensor as well as the 2 24Vac wire connections. If you have a different type of wiring setup then you will have to refer to the instructions provided on how to properly wire it in. When I opened it up it said you had to push down the toothpick-like thing on the sensor and hold it down 15-20 seconds to activate it. Did you do that too? I would try to keep the sensor within a reasonable distance from the receiver if possible. Read Less

Answer:
Yes, the Toro RainSensor family (wired or wireless) is designed to work with Toro and most competitive controllers.
If it doesn’t appear to be working, the most common solutions are the following:
- Confirm whether the controller is Normally Open or Normally Closed, as each would require the Sensor Receiver to be wired in differently. Also ensure any short jumper wire is removed from the sensor port Read More

If it doesn’t appear to be working, the most common solutions are the following:
- Confirm whether the controller is Normally Open or Normally Closed, as each would require the Sensor Receiver to be wired in differently. Also ensure any short jumper wire is removed from the sensor port (often factory installed)
- Sometimes, older controllers do not have a “sensor” port, which would require interrupting the common wire. In this setup, the yellow wire won’t be used.
- Check if the controller has a bypass switch on the board or in the software – the sensor may be working correctly, but the signal is being blocked by the bypass switch (essentially overriding it)
- Confirm the sensor transmitter is positioned upright and not bumped loose or blocked (by an overhang, etc.) Read Less

Answer:
It looks like the same type of technology pretty much. Should be the same type of wiring so I can't imagine why it wouldn't work to replace it.

Rated 4.8 out of 5 by 4 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Rain Sensor Easy to install and works well. Only negative is that this was a replacement for an identical unit that failed after about three years. The original unit should have been more reliable than that. July 15, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great sensor! This Toro sensor is a re-badged Irritrol, which is known as being one of the best and most reliable wireless rain sensors available. The installation takes very little time and the initial testing was easy to perform. This package comes with everything needed for installation, including mounting hardware. We had our first rain this morning and the sensor performed flawlessly. So far I am very happy with my purchase! June 11, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Top of the line wireless rain sensor This wireless rain sensor I found to have the best reviews. It was easy to install to my timer which had sensor wire inputs as well as the 24vac wire inputs. The receiver is installed inside the garage and the sensor was easily quick finger clamped to the gutters about 25-30 feet from the receiver. Seems to have great reception. Tested it out last night after installing it. Turned on a zone and pushed the little sensor stick on top where the cork material is and the sprinklers turned off immediately. Now I just have to wait until the next heavy rain and make sure it does actually delay the sprinklers. I'm betting on it working great. I would highly recommend using one as it will save you from sprinkling when its raining thus wasting water and be more economical. Our city offers a rebate for installing one so we get 50% of the cost back in rebate so the price is right. Check to see if a rebate is offered where you live. June 13, 2013
