Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by SD-V296KU - Can't Get VCR to Record I switch to this device to make VCR show recordings for my Mother, who has no cable TV. My very old unit was shot after 20 years and 100's of tapes. This unit appears to record for me, but when I playback, there is no audio or picture. I have a new flat screen and I have followed directions. Don't want to call this a lousy purchase, if it is User error. Anyone have any suggestions for me? Seems like I have spent a lot of time trying all of my TV connection options, of course following the Toshiba manual. Like I said, this unit seems to work, but if I can't get the picture to show or sound...trash city and move on. thanks September 5, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Toshiba DVD/VCR Combo I was impressed with the overall product as it can even play a dvd and a tape simultaneously, but it does only have a RCA connection for the VCR. With any newer television that's not a problem however to tape after June 12th it would require a digital converter. I just got it to play tapes so it works great for me and it plays the DVDs through RGBs/component connections which are good quality. April 13, 2009
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by An overpriced DVD/VCR with nothing needed for tv show taping I guess, now makers of these no longer make them so you can hook in your cable and record shows while you are working....you have to now buy the seperate modulator and tuner...so why bother...I mean why else would you buy something like this...It was not mentioned in the details so if you do not have a DVR or cable box and you have the plain old fashioned cable hookup - save your money. Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by worst dvd/vcr combo The first sd v296 I got lasted a day ate a tape, sent back., The next brand new unit i had less than a week the dvd side froze in reverse., remote would'nt solve the problem. I unpluged it ,opened up the dvd tray EMPTY, very weird, I've used & was an audio tech for years, never seen that before!!!!! August 9, 2014
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by unit works - remote does not the unit worked but the remote is horrible. have to stand on the buttons to make anything work. usually give up and go to the main unit to push play. July 19, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Best Brand for DVD/VCR. I love the Toshiba brands, they make them very well. This DVD/VCR is exactly what I was needing and it works very well. Was easy to hook up and easy to use. I ordered it online, the process is smooth and was received in just a few days. April 13, 2009
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by worst ever Wow I can't even put "6ad" in here because it's "inappropriate" Worked for less than a year and then the DVD player quit working. I don't care if you say that DVD players aren't the best or you should expect that. You should NOT expect a DVD player to quit working before a few years. I've gotten 9 years out of a DVD player used everyday. So that's a terrible excuse. Picture quality wasn't great either for the price. June 4, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good value for the money It's very complicated, and directions are not that clear. Only negative is it does not show tape position with time remaining on tape September 4, 2012
