Answer:
All Total Pond pumps are submersible pumps only. Running any of them inline could cause the pump to overheat.

Answer:
Hello!
This is a submersible waterfall pump and must be in water for proper function. Otherwise the motor will run dry and burn out in no time.

1. Must the pump lay flat as pictured with the outlet pointing up to work properly? Can it lay with the outlet on its side or with the pump in a vertical position?

2. Would it be okay to use a ball valve diverter with this pump so that approximately half the flow is going to a filter and the other half is going to a small waterfall? Is this too much stress on the pump?

Answer:
Good morning DR, thank you for reaching out to us. To answer your questions, yes you can operate the unit at a different position, and yes you can us a diverter valve with the pump. It shouldn't cause any stress on the pump.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by 2,000 GPH Waterfall Pump So far this is the best pump that I have ever used in my water garden. September 27, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Need more Choices As soon as the warranty is over so is the pump. For the last ten years this is my story!!! October 20, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent Pump The pump has worked with no problems. Powerful pumping uphill more than 20' with about a 5' overall lift. August 5, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very HAPPY! I bought this as a replacement for my two 560 GPH pumps and I have been very happy with it. It has had no issues after 2 months of use and I would recommend it to anyone who is doing a water feature. You do not have to use the bag enclosed if you do not want to, it only inhibits flow and as long as you keep an eye on your contaminates it does not need it I have found. Also works great with filtration systems! October 28, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by pump works fine i had an older pump, same size different #. fortunately i had fittings to connect to existing hose. the fittings for the new were sized different from the old pump. you may need to make a trip the hardware store if you are replacing an old pump.
