Does this pond pump need to be placed inside a filter box?

Asked by: ElleBee
Good Morning Ellebee, while it isn't necessary to place any of our pumps in a filter box, we always recommend doing so! Not only does it protect the pump from debris and damage, it also helps keep your pond clean. The bio media balls inside the filter box also help create good bacteria which helps keep the water environment healthy and strong for the fish.

Normally how long does this pump last? Can it be reparired? What is the warranty on this pump?

Asked by: Dennis
Good morning Dennis, thank you for reaching out to us. The pump's life depends all on your personal maintenance of it and how it is being used. If it used in a pond close to 210 gallons, and cleaned at least one every 2-3 months, then it can certainly last for a very long time. This unit's replaceable pieces are repairable by replacing them. The warranty on this pump at this time is 3 years.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Good, but impellers break Have owned two of these. Lasted about a year each. Used in fountain application. Pumps great, low noise. Good for the price, but on both the impellers broke. There is a plastic retaining ring that cracked allowing the impeller to wobble and basically stop pumping. When first on broke I thought it was because of debris getting caught. But when the second one has the exact same failure in crystal clear water, well, looks like a materials failure to me. I'd love to get another one but to only last a year and a few months is not good enough when I have to tear down the fountain to replace it. I'll try a different brand on the next one.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Pumps less than 1/3 advertised volume I purchased this pump yesterday at a HD store. I am using it in a 100 gallon outdoor pond, with lift of less than 2 feet. It was meant to replace a Beckett with the same specifications that finally gave out after 4 years. The initial flow rate of this pump was noticeably less than the old Beckett shortly before it died. I measured the rate three times, and found it is pumping only about 65 gallons/hour in clean, particle free water. Can't imagine it would last more than a few weeks in a real pond, especially not inside the filter box. It goes back tomorrow and I'm buying the Beckett online. Too bad HD switched brands.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from 210 GPH Pond Pump This pump was an exact replacement of a similar pump that had worked well for many years when it failed. Best value I could find in our area.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome pond pump!! I have a small kidney shape fish pond. It's exactly what I wanted. It would work fine in a bigger pond. Very happy with my purchase

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pond Pump This pump is very strong for your needs in a small pond or a cloner for your grow..Remember if the pond is too big then get a bigger pump but if it's just a ten gallon container or a small pond this is the ticket for sure..and the price is rite.....

Rated 5 out of 5 by from durable, good for small volume Bought this product 5 yrs. ago and ran 5 hrs. daily for 4 yrs. Was able to replace impeller from manufacturer for $16.95 and runs fine w/ a 2ft. lift. A little workhorse.
