Answer:
I used a simple pre filter sponge on this to keep small particles from going into the impeller area, even though there is a grating there to do that. I find the sponge harbors good bacteria and keeps the water cleaner.

Rated 4.1 out of 5 by 27 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good Pump I needed to replace the pump i had in my small pond. I thought this pump would be a good choice. The pump Has 4 suction cups on the bottom of the pump to keep it in place. The cord is a great length at 16 feet long. The pump comes with an attachment that screws on the pump to adjust the flow rate. It takes a 1/2 inch hose that is not included. There is no filter on this pump.I'm a little worried that that may be a problem down the line. As of now there are no issues and I am happy with my choice. April 18, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good Pump I am using this pump to supply a spillway waterfall at a small pond. It comes with a water flow control valve for a 3/4" hose, which is great. I have 2 ponds and have used various submersible pumps in the past, and this is the first one of any volume I have gotten with that feature. The power cord is really long. This pond is about 30" deep and the spillway unit is just above the edge of the pond so I don't have a lot of elevation, but it puts out a nice flow of water. The pump is assembled so you can attach the hose, place it, and plug it in. I put mine in a submersible plant basket and covered it with rocks to keep leaves and bigger debris from fouling the intake, but other than that it's ready to go. August 20, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by great pump I think this is a great and power full pump. It is user friendly easy to use. Just plug into an electrical outlet and it starts pumping away. Great for small ponds around 20 gallon. Naturally if you want a bigger pond then you would need a bigger pump. It tells you on the container it comes in about the size that the pond should be for this pump. Great item strong for its size June 30, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Better than I was expecting I got this Total Pond Model DD11330 pump as a replacement pump for my fountain. The Model DD11330 pump I received is different from that listed on the Home Depot product page. It has been redesigned and now uses 3/4" tubing, has a maximum pumping height of 7.2' at zero gallons and has a two year warranty. It also looks very different. It measures 5.5" long, 2" wide, and 3" high without the flow control attached. It has a 16' cord, flow control, and uses only 27 watts of power. There are 4 suction cups on the bottom to secure it. It has a powerful flow for such a small pump. The flow rate table for this pump is as follows: For 6' lift, 79 GPH For 5' lift, 148 GPH For 4' lift, 185 GPH For 3' lift, 219 GPH For 2' lift, 264 GPH For 1' lift, 303 GPH August 8, 2015
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Not the same pump We will see how this pump works. I purchased it to replace a failed pump from the same manufacturer with the part number DD-11330 - which is the part number of this pump. However, it looks different and does not produce the advertised head nor the head of the original pump. The product description on the web page does not match the description on the product packaging. The fitting size is 1/2" MPT. Bottom line . . . I really don't know what I purchased April 30, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Fast Pick Up Powerful and quiet. No set up require and just plus in. March 2, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Pump This product seems to be very adequate for the job we just completed. It's quiet and powerful. January 20, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Nice little pump, but I should have ordered a larger one This is a nice little pump, but I didn't realize that I would need a larger one to match up with the other pond parts and the size of my water feature...my fault, learning by trial and error. This gave me a trickling crick and I wanted more of a babbling brook, so probably I need something with about twice the capacity, but I am not disappointed, I will re-purpose this for a smaller fountain, or possibly a "tributary" to the future babbling brook. The pump is quiet, meaning that I cannot hear any motor noise over the gurgle of the water, so I like that about it. Also it fits up easily to a number of piping options. Anyway, nice little pump and if it is representative of the brand, I feel confident in buying a larger one from Total Pond. August 4, 2015
