Answer:
I did not weigh the can but it is much heavier than the cheaper trash cans. However it has large wheels making it very easy to move/handle. If you think YOU have to lift it, buy a lighter trash can.

I'm guessing but I would say 15 to 20 pounds empty. They are substantially made. The material is much thicker than my old wheeled cans. With wheels as large as they have, they are easy to move even when loaded, if that is what you are concerned about. I hope that helps.

What do you grab to tilt and wheel it? All the pictures only show the silver bar halfway down on the front.

Answer:
The silver bar of not for you to hold. Certain garbage trucks have lifts that attach to the silver bar to lift it. There are two handles up at the top (perfect spot) - you can't see them in this picture. Handles perfect for with or without gloves.

Betty, there are two handles towards the back of the can and lid, that are easy to grip. Simply pushing down and wheeling forward will do the job. Toter has the industry's best tilt-to-roll ratio and easy maneuverability that creates an effortless roll to the curb. Hope that answers your question!

We live in an urban environment and need to lock up the cans. Is there a handle or hinge in the back that would allow us to do that?

Answer:
Yes. You can't see it from the photo, but where the lid is attached in the back (by 2 hinges) is a long bar going across that is the handle you use to maneuver it. A chain could easily be attached at this bar to secure it without damaging the can.

You could run a chain through the handle on this one, or the silver bar half way down the front that the truck hooks into for hoisting.

There is a handle that you could wrap a chain around - obviously if they wanted the can bad enough they could cut through the polyethylene. Also note, there is not a lock on the lid...just to be clear. Hope this information helps!

The City of Boston requires "Open Top" Barrels for the collection of seasonal yard waste, such as leaves. I'm thinking I would want to remove the lid entirely on collection day to avoid possible rejection.

I wound up going with the Rubbermaid Brute 32 gallon barrel. I called the City of Boston Public Works, and they seemed I'd be better off going with a barrel that didn't "look" too heavy. Yard Waste has to be hoisted manually, vs the other trash and recycling that they use the machine for.

I would check with the city, or your neighbors to see what they will be doing? If it manual pick up, you may be able to just bungee cord the lid to the body?

Customer Reviews

Rated 4.5 out of 5 by 350 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by 32-GAL. Wheeled Trash Can Cart Our Pool Service Technician visited our property, he saw my OLD Garbage Can, the lid was broken, he then said he purchased 2 New garbage cans, he said he would give me one. Long story short the garbage can was ``USED`` he then said was better then the one I had. So, I gave the garage can to my Landscaper. Recently I visited Home Depot, found the garage can which was approved by our Refuge Carrier. I purchased the 32-Gal Wheeled Trash Can Cart on-line. So much easier to use, wheeled can is strong, the Refuge Carrier, has a device that loads the can and dumps into the trash receptor. The price was reasonable. October 18, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Extremely durable, more so than the trash cans often provided by waste service companies, and the lid keeps the opossum and raccoon living under my house out of our thrown-away leftovers. The wheels make it a breeze to carry it to the end of my driveway, where I'm surprised the trash can hasn't been stolen due to its high quality - and the geographic placement of my neighborhood. October 25, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by good size for household garbage can, although a little narrow, but you can really tamp the stuff in and it still dumps easy. next size up is only $5 more, but that would start to get heavy to dump by hand. October 26, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by I really like the size of this container. It is easy to push for petite women and fits perfectly in my garbage storage box. The lid keeps the rain out when it is by the curb. It is well constructed and should last. October 25, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by A Big Can that is Easy to Move Around The size of can is deceptively large. For our family it can easily hold two weeks of garbage, but yet is easy to move around on its large wheels. October 25, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Very Sturdy Sturdy and solid trash can. Well worth the price. I won't need to buy another one, as I don't see this one wear out any time soon. October 18, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by WORST EVER There's no room inside the can to put trash due to the way it was molded. Terrible waste of money, I returned it after purchasing it online. October 11, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Best product I've seen so far Durable and not bulky. The only criticism is that that there is a bump-in (from the silver notch located on the outside)on the inside of the trash can which makes the full space a little smaller than your typical trash can. October 4, 2016
