Product Overview

The Toter residential curbside heavy duty trash cart is a 2 Wheeled garbage container with a molded-in axle and attached lid. Toter carts are manufactured through their patented advanced rotatIon al molding process using medium density polyethylene. This allows for added rigidity and extra material in critical wear areas, creating their patented rugged rim at the top edge and the wear strip at the bottom of the container. Toter carts offer a service life expectancy virtually double that of other brands and each comes with a 10-year warranty. They are ANSI certified, the preferred choice of profession al haulers and are compatible with automated or semi-automated collectIon waste truck lifters. For the homeowner, the industry's best tilt-to-roll ratio and easy maneuverability create an effortless roll to the curb. The large ft. print and aerodynamic design create a superior wind and set-down stability. The trash carts are available in 32, 48, 64 and 96 Gal. sizes. A distinctive Greenstone textured finish masks normal wear and tear and keeps your Toter looking new for years.

Our collection service is able to use this with the lifters on their trucks. There seems to be a standard configuration that many cans use.

Does the lid latch in any way?

I'm not allowed to use garbage cans over 48 gallons so the bear proof cart isn't doable for me. I only have racoons (no bears) and they seem to be deterred by a simple latch mechanism. Is there one on this or any of your small-ish sized carts?

Thanks!

Answer:
There's no built-in latch, but there is a lip under the front of the lid, so you could easily stretch a bungie cord or ratchet strap from the push handle to the lip to keep things secure.

There is no latch on the lid. The lid is heavy black plastic - attached at the handles so you simply lift it up and it flips back to open. Since these are designed for the automated lifting mechanisms they are using on trash trucks nowadays - a lid latch is not typically part of the design as the lid obviously needs to swing open when being dumped.
That being said, these are heavy-duty trash cans that are significantly more resistant than your typical trash can when it comes to being blown over by the wind or tipped over by raccoons. I would expect a raccoon would have a difficult time getting up high enough to be able to lift the lid or knock over a partially-filled can like this.
But those raccoons are clever I will admit, so for added measure, you could secure the lid by using a long bungee cord (or a short bungee cord and a piece of rope) from the middle of the handle across the lid and halfway down the front to the metal lift bar located there. On trash day, you would just remove the bungee cord when you roll it out to the curb. Read Less

Rated 4.8 out of 5 by 203 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by We have had one of these for 6 or 8 months and just purchased a second can. We have to roll the cans about 100 yards to the road for pickup. Over the last 10 or so years we have tried many of the cheaper units but these are far better. These are rugged and well built. The larger wheels make rolling when full much easier than units with smaller wheels. The lid stays attached better than other brands we have tried. There are some casting imperfections at the rim but this does not seem to lessen the strength in any way. We injected a little epoxy glue in a few of the small openings just to fill a small gap or two. October 28, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very good container When I first saw this container on line, I thought it was a bit over-priced but ordered it anyway. When it arrived , I realized that the price is reasonable considering the sturdy construction. It is just wide enough and heavy enough to stay put in windy conditions, and the large wheels make it easy to roll over uneven surfaces. It has a large handle and is just the right height for most people. The capacity is perfect for a couple or small family. Should last a very long time. You get what you pay for. October 14, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Trashcan! I've tried numerous trashcans. This one isn't going to wear out on the bottom because it tilts back on the wheels. Easy to move. October 25, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good, Sturdy Trash Can I bought this trash can to replace another in my apartment complex where we have a gazebo and picnic area for the tenants. I was looking for something tough and practical. This is is both. I really like the attached lid and the wheels make it very convenient when we need to empty it. The price was very good also. It is just a tad smaller than I expected but otherwise very satisfied. October 13, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by trash can We needed a sturdy trash for our weekly trash pickup. This one has a great guaratee. I like that it has an attached lid and wheels so I don't have to carry it to the curb. October 11, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by perfect for my needs love the attached lid to keep odors and trash in. love that it is a solid trash can more durable than the previous. and surprised how well it fit in the back of my Mini Cooper when I brought it home from the store. Still bigger than the previous trash can and solid. Saved me the $55 delivery fee had I decided to have it delivered. October 4, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Industrial Strength for home use Now THIS is a garbage can! If you want/need industrial strength without "industrial size", then this is the one for you and at a reasonable price. September 27, 2016
