Questions & Answers

Can you connect a small ac unit

Asked by: David
You guys are insane, unless you want a smoking hot inverter around probably making noise and popping the fuse all the time. So 5000 btu ac 115volts 4amps (115x4) 460watts right? not quite it will have a substantial jump at start up and a small jump when the compressor kicks in, while the peak for this is 800 watts its only meant to hold a consistant 400 (without overheating\fuse popping) so at the end of the day even if this does run it without popping fuses all the time the abuse on it will surely shorten the life of the product. general rule of thumb is always get just a little more than you need not a little less. personally planning a solar project for my rv trailer and after much research the inverter is the part that had the largest quality spectrum (bad to good). I have been thinking of getting one of these for smaller items in the rv and a larger one for the ac unit and electronics that require pure sign wave inverters to keep from excessive battery wear.

Is 400 Watts the peak starting power if not what is the peak starting power. Also is the a sine wave power inverter?
Asked by: lab
This unit is a modified sine wave. To get a pure sine wave you need the 800w or better models. Also on power if ordering inverters you want to match the wattage to the usage. This will make your battery last longer. These are answers I have found in the manual for this unit.

Does the car engine need to be running while the inverter is connected and turned on?

Does the car engine need to be running while the inverter is connected and turned on?
Asked by: bulldogmgc
Get a deep cycle battery. Use that and leave the car battery alone. The car battery is not designed to take deep drains and recharging of power. The deep cycle batteries are designed to handle the power drain and charge cycles. BTW the folks that mentioned the 800W full sign wave power converters, absolutely the right call. It might be a little more but look for the pure sine instead of modified sine.

Can I use this in the house where I don't have any outlet

Asked by: Savingmoney
Yes, you need a battery and make sure you don't exceed the 400 watts.
