Customer Questions & Answers

Basement floor has asbestos tiles in place now. Should this product be used as a prep step on this surface?

Asked by: Anonymous
Steph, This product is designed to be used over concrete flooring, not other flooring layers. If you have asbestos flooring now, it will depend on what you are looking to install over it whether you will need extra prep or not. If installing a floating flooring such as laminate or Allure, then you can proceed with installing. However if you are placing carpet or a nail down material, I would advise against it as asbestos only becomes dangerous when the layer is disturbed and allowed to become airborne. - Jay

What needs to be done to the basement floor prior to application of the Trafficmaster Basement Proofer?

Asked by: Anonymous
Before applying Traffic Master Basement Proofer any paint on the floor must be removed. The floor should be clean and not have any grease or oil on the surface. The floor should be tested for moisture and/or white alkaline deposits. . . . if these conditions exist, you should not proceed.

Could I use this over terrazo flooring?

Presently have some small cracks in terrazo.
Asked by: Anonymous
Hi there Bobbi, This product is meant to act as a sealer and bond-promoter for more porous cement surfaces. Your terrazzo is a composite pour that's laid over the concrete, but should not still be porous, so it would not properly bond as it should like with bare concrete.

Customer Reviews

1-qt. Basement Proofer for Concrete Floors is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 4.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Traffic Master Ceramica floor tiles and Basement Proofer Since my garage floor was always difficult to paint year after year, I decided to install Traffic Master Ceramica tiles. After removing as much paint as I could from the concrete floor, I applied Traffic Master Basement Proofer which prepared the surface and provided a good bond for the tiles. The result was a beautiful floor that is easy to keep clean. The tiles look like ceramic but have a much softer feel than ceramic. I anticipate years of carefree maintenance of the garage floor as well as a showroom look. I would strongly recommend Ceramica tiles to anyone considering new flooring.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A must for installing vinyl tiles This product is very easy to use with clear instructions. I used it on bare foundation before putting down my Ceramica tiles and they have not come loose or shifted at all. The smell was minimal although to be safe I had a window open while applying it. One quart was enough to do a small bathroom and a large walk in closet.
