WE HAD 600 SQ FT OF DESERT GOLD INSTALLED BY A FLOORING COMPANY. IT LOOKS GREAT. THE COLOR VARIATIONS, DISTRESSED TEXTURE AND VARING PLANK WIDTHS (3" THEN 5") IS EXACTLY WHAT WE WANTED. WE HAD NO SHORTS IN THE 3" WIDTH AND 20% IN THE 5" WIDTH WHICH WAS EASILY USED UP DURING THE INSTALL. THE TRIM PIECES WE USED FROM HOME DEPOT, FOR THIS FLOORING, WERE SOLID HARDWOOD. DURABILITY SHOULD BE GOOD WITH THE SHAW PLATINUM SCUFF PROTECTION (SEE SHAW WEB SITE FOR SCUFF TEST). WE'LL SEE. YOU MIGHT NEED A SPECIAL STAPLER IF YOU ARE USING THE NAIL DOWN METHOD. WE DID, AND THE PART NUMBERS ARE LISTED IN THE INSTALL INSTRUCTION THAT COME WITH THE WOOD.

I really love the color and looks of this floor. I was looking for something that would go with my golden oak woodwork and this is perfect. Overall, I'm very happy with it. There are a few negatives though:
1) The hand scraped finish is almost too rough. I had to discard several planks or at least cut out the bad spots. I wish the finish wasn't quite so distressed. I used the "sock test" to decide if a plank was OK - if a sock snagged on it, it didn't pass.
2) I installed this as a floating floor which means I had to glue all the joints. This was a bit time consuming. I wish this came in a click-lock version but it doesn't.
3) The tongues (of the tongue and groove joints) are fragile and many planks were damaged from rough handling. Each plank had to be inspected and damaged areas removed or scraped with a utility knife. Otherwise you get gaps between the planks.
4) They provide more short pieces than you need. Most cases come with about 6 shorter planks ranging from 12" to about 24". I have tons of the shorter ones left over - kind of a waste.
As I said, I really love the floor now that it's installed. Just be sure to order extra to account for unusable, rough or damaged, or too short planks.

Eent down smoothly, excellent colors, ordered 56 boxes ended up replacing 6 full boxes due to warped boards and or faulty boards. Half boxes were full length the others 30% end boards, thats odd.

I AM WRITING AN UPATE TO THE FIRST REVIEW ON THIS PAGE (NORTHDCCL - 3 PICS). WE ARE COMING UP ON 2 YEARS FOR OUR FLOORING INSTALLATION. THERE HAS BEEN -NO- WEAR TO THE FININSH ANYWHERE (FAMILY OF 4 AND 1 GOOFY DOG). I EXPECTED TO SEE SOME MINOR FADING IN THE FINISH NEAR THE DOORS - AROUND THE NOOK TABLE - AND BY THE KITCHEN SINK - ALL HIGH TRAFFIC SPOTS. THERE ISN'T ANY - AND I HAVE ONLY ONE SCRATCH NEAR THE FIRE PLACE. THIS IS MY FIRST HARDWOOD FLOOR AND I'M VERY IMPRESSED SO FAR. ITS STILL AMAZING TO LOOK AT THE DIVERSE COLOR - PATTERNS - AND TEXTURES OF THIS HICKORY WOOD.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by MrPringle Great look; not much scrap
The flooring looks great once installed. We installed ourselves, floating over a wood subfloor. There were very few unusable pieces: perhaps 4 pieces in 50+ cases of product. Definitely a good idea to mix pieces from different boxes since some boxes are only long pieces and some boxes have a short length mix.

This is a very nice product. The random lengths make for a nice look, although I wish there were more. The finish is beautiful. My only complaint is that the tongue section of the planks is very easily damaged. I would recommend this floor highly.

I am very happy with our floors. The quality and appearance is as expected and looks great. We are planning on continuing the same hardwood throughout our home.
