Customer Questions & Answers

can a soft underlayment be installed first, or would that cause separation of the interlocks?

Asked by: mo99
Yes, you can put a very thin underlayment down before installing this flooring to help with minor floor imperfections. However, I learned the hard way to not install it over any carpet padding, no matter how firm it seems. All of the interlocking edges on the long side of the planks split and broke off after about 3 months. That was my fault for being overconfident that it would be fine. At least it was only about 40 sq ft to redo.

How well does this hold up to moving furntiure and scratches rips ect? Thinking about putting in rental

Asked by: Anonymous
We are getting ready to put vinyl planks in half of our Home. We have read up on this and our advice to anyone is to put Felt pads on anything that slides across the floor. We have it on our Chairs Couch and table. and our furniture glides with ease. Home Depot sells these in all sizes and they are self adhesive. They are amazing.

How slick is this flooring?

Just wondering how slick this is compared to laminate? We have a very happy Labrador Retriever who loves to run through the house and always slips and slides on the laminate we have. Trying to find something with a little more traction.
Asked by: Candace
Not slick. Good traction.

5-45/64 in. x 35-45/64 in. x 4 mm Old Hickory Nutmeg Vinyl Plank Flooring (22.66 sq. ft. / case) is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 145.

Surprized by the color (more red then golden) then the pictured, but will still use. I have used the TrafficMaster before so installation was easy so far (about 1/3 done with the home). I like it for rentals as you can disassemble it if needed to replace the subfloor (it has happened a couple of times. I did change the installation. I tend to work along a wall in one room, when you hit a wall, I use the left over piece to start then next room on the wall. I do the same until the end of the home, then go back to the first room wall and start the second course. I find I have less waste, and only have one end piece to deal with. It also allows me to do multipule rooms with no door way seams.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Old Hickory Nutmeg Vinyl Plank Flooring Cleanliness is the key to installing this flooring. . . sweep, vacuum, sweep, vacuum & repeat daily if it takes longer to complete installation. From start to finish including removing all furniture, carpet, pad, tack strips, & staples; preparing floor surface which included the use of a belt sander to make sure it was flat so I could start out with a good substrate and completing installation took four days for a 14x17 bedroom. This stuff looks amazing & looks really good with our antique oak bedroom set. Aside from the color, the texture reminds me of the old punkin board floors in Maine. Before I moved furniture back into the room I went over the floor with a mop & shine product to protect the floor from scuffs while moving heavy furniture.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Looks great! I have redone my entire house in this flooring! It is super easy to use and looks like real wood but sturdier! I did it by myself with professional looking results. I highly recommend it!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great looking flooring If you decide to go with this flooring I recommend doing a couple things. 1. BUY THE VINYL PLANK FLOORING INSTALLATION TOOL KIT. I didn't realize there was such a thing until about half way through. The 2nd half of the project went a WHOLE LOT SMOOTHER. 2. First lay out all the planks, separate the lighter colored from the darker colored planks and alternate during install. Upon completion I stood back and realized that there were a portion of it that kinda looked like I ran out of flooring and used a different kind to try and match the color. But I'm kinda OCD with stuff like that.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful flooring... I have never installed a floor before although I have observed others installing laminate products so I wasn't sure I could do this. It took a few rows to get the procedure of clipping the end pieces together and then rotating the plank to get the length in place but once I overcame the learning curve it was simple. I broke my hand last year and don't have much strength in it but I was easily able to score and cut planks when necessary with a utility knife and a metal straight-edge. I just ordered more of this flooring in grey for another project! Everyone that has seen the floor agrees that it is just beautiful!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great floor We laid this floor over an existing vinyl floor in our finished basement. It looks beautiful. It is quite a large room and it took my husband and I four days. If we were younger, we probably could have done it in two (we are 60 and 70 years old). The most challenging part was getting the first two rows lined up. The floor kept moving. We finally landed on putting the unopened boxes on top and that weighted it down so it wouldn't move (see picture). We also found that it was very important to make sure all the boards were firmly seated. We did have to pull up a couple of rows and re-lay them when we found a gap but this was our fault and not the product.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Looks good, easy install, scratches really easy We chose to go with this flooring because it was advertised as scratch resistant and easy to maintain and it does look good. I don't care if it's easy to install because i have flooring experience. Well, TrafficMASTER is easy to install, it is easy to maintain, but it is NOT scratch resistant. It scratches so easily that stepping on a piece of smarty candy left a scratch, seriously. Even if you put floor protection on the feet of your chairs and table they will still scratch the flooring. They should not be advertising that it is scratch resistant. Overall, the other features don't matter because it won't last long. I give it three years before i get so annoyed with the scratches that I tear it out and put something else in. I used this to replaced an ugly Pergo floor that was at least eight years old. Yes, it was ugly but it didn't have a scratch on it. Needless to say, we are very disappointed. One more thing, try finding the manufacturers website, I couldn't.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from WARNING...DO NOT PURCHASE Warning...DO NOT PURCHASE THIS FLOORING. I PURCHASED 2500SQFT. IT DOES NOT HOLD AT THE SEAMS. IT STARTS PEALIN THEN THE SEAM COMPLETELY BREAKS LOOSE. IT HAS NOT EVEN BEEN INSTALLED 6 MONTHS AND IT IS FAILING EVERYWHERE. NO TRAFFIC AREAS AS WELL AS DOOR WAYS. CONTACTED CLAIMS AND WAS TOLD 14 DAY TURNAROUND AND I EMAILED THEM EVERY PICTURE, RECEIPT, ECT, TO THIS DAY NO WORD FROM THEM.
