Answer:
I would suggest it. We did with ours and we're glad we did. Lay one plank alone, then lay another with the padding (or something similar) and try them out. I've found there to be a pretty big difference. Our floors are much more comfortable with the padding underneath and we didn't use a thick kind at all. It's time consuming and a hassle, but well worth it.

Hello calbo38 and thank you for your question.
The TrafficMASTER Alameda Hickory Laminate Flooring requires a moisture barrier for use over a concrete subfloor. Sound control underlayment is optional; the less compressive underlayment is preferred. If you need sound dampening, consider a cork underlayment. Select a polyethylene foam underlayment for cushioning. Use a 2-in-1 underlayment for insulation, cushioning, and moisture protection. A 3-in-1 underlayment will provide insulation, cushioning, moisture protection, and sound dampening.

Answer:
NO! Our wash machine broke and floor flooded. Water was on laminate no more than 5 minutes when we mopped it up, and floor is ruined. Unfortunately laminate is out of stock, so we may not be able to repair damaged section of floor

Answer:
Yes, this product can get wet but it is recommended to get extremely wet. Fill all expansion gaps with water repellent caulk. Do not allow water or liquids to remain on the floor and seep into the joints. To minimize moisture damage, we recommend applying a thin film of water repellent to joints between planks. What is the preferred method for installing this floor? I worry about the noise with a floating floor, but wonder if a glued floor will not hold up as well, due to expansion? Any thoughts?

I think it would really be personal preference, but this product is made to be a floating floor. Once put down, it doesn't move. Even though it is called floating, it is very solid once down.

Rated 4.6 out of 5 by 110 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great Value Laminate Flooring The Alameda Hickory Laminate flooring is Great ! I used the premium underlayment since I was installing on top of concrete. The combination of the two look and feel great in our family room and bedroom. I was able to buy this product on sale for ~ $0.50 / square foot when it was on sale. The product installs easily and quickly, and the best part is my Wife thinks it looks FANTASTIC !! June 2, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great color, but hard to find We bought several boxes of these for redoing a floor in our house, and I guess the color has been discontinued because I had to special order an extra box after I realized I wasn't going to have enough. The boards lock together fairly well, and look great. May 10, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by You get what you pay for This product is very inexpensive and looks VERY good which brings the value up. But, due to its cheap cost you get the lowest quality. In terms of the locking mechanism, this product became very frustrating. It's so thin that when you lightly tap it into place with a mallet, you sometimes fractured the sides, thus, not allowing the NEXT piece to securely lock into it. Also, if you have ANY inconsistencies in the concrete (or whatever floor you're laying it on), these WILL come apart later on down the road. This project was extremely frustrating for us because we'd get 5 feet of track laid when we would realize that an entire row was coming undone. What's frustrating is that I laid that thing SO tight before moving on so I couldn't understand why they were coming apart. This could be because it's my wife and I first time doing this type of project, so our inexperience is most likely due to our own frustration. But to those who said, "This is an easy project even for those who've never done this before," I'd like to kindly add my two cents and say that's not true! September 6, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good Buy and easy install I'm quite happy with this product and the price far exceeds the risk. Essentially it provides peace of mind knowing that it may be easily replaced should it wear out when abused. I recommend adding soft pads to furniture on top of this product which will certainly extend the useful life of the flooring. I also bought the best underlayment for installing which should prevent intrusion of moisture on a concrete slab floor. April 19, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent Flooring For The Price If you follow the manufacturers instructions and watch some how to videos, this flooring is easy to install even for someone who hasn't installed flooring before. My wife and I installed it in our dining room and hallway and it took very little time. The wide planks are beautiful. The only downside was that we had to put carpet runners in the area that our large dog walks because the floor is quite slippery to her. Overall an excellent product for the price, .49 per square foot and a definite improvement from the 10 year old carpet. I am looking forward to purchasing more for our living room. February 25, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Simply Beautiful' We installed approximately 1000 Sq. ft. It was fairly easy to install my husband and two teenage sons put it in. We love it and everyone that comes over isays it looks fantastic and very expensive! Easy to clean. I've tried all the recommendations and the best is buying the O'Cedar Hardwood and More microfiber mop. Taking the pad off and wetting it with warm water, completely ringing it out and mopping a area at a time. It's the easiest and does not leave streaks. The water and vinegar mixture recommendation leave streaks. August 11, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Alameda Hickory Flooring We bought this flooring on sale during Memorial sales. We ordered online and picked up 45 minutes away at our nearest Home Depot. They helped us load into our truck and trailer. We bought roughly 800 sq. ft. of flooring to replace old carpet in our living, dining room and kitchen. We bought Diablo saw blades for laminate cuts and a laminate install kit which I highly recommend. We purchased the Serenity foam underlay from the Home Depot website and had it delivered. My husband did all of the measuring and cuts. Laying the floor was simple it locks in at an angle and gets "hammered" into place. It looks beautiful and I highly recommend! June 7, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good for the price I am happy enough with this flooring. My sub floor is horrible and uneven (37 year old mobile home) I would have prefered thicker boards but for normal houses this would work very well. August 3, 2016
