Customer Questions & Answers

can this be installed over uneven tile?

Asked by: Anonymous
no !! installing a new floor over an uneven floor is the best way to get the new tiles out of square. you will end up with open seems and bumps. this tile is pretty forgiving for small voids and open seams on old floors but for anything larger than a dime or cracks more than 1/8 inch I would fill them. if you have holes or gaps in the old floor just fill them with floor fix (a powered mix that will level floors) that is easy to use and dries quickly. if there are bumps then sand them down if the existing material is not asbestos related. if in doubt call a pro. good luck BCS

Can you use vinyl adhesive on these tiles ?

We have used peel and stick in the past and after 3 to 4 years the edges are coming loose, would like to avoid this issue by using adhesive. Need to use vinyl for economic reasons.
Asked by: gmem
I would not do that. We have not had any issues with separation or movement. I think using adhesive would not allow it to seal properly. With all the times I have used this, we have never had any issue with separation. Make sure to let the boxes sit in the room a couple of days to acclimate to your home as this could be the problem if you are not doing that.

do I need glue strips, I thought this was a floating floor and none were required ?

Asked by: Anonymous
The glue (adhesive) strips are already attached to the tile. This is a floating floor; the tiles adhere to each other and not the subfloor.

Can you also use grout with these tiles?

I know some luxury vinyl tiles you can also grout for a more realistic look.

No. Also, the finished floor has no grout lines

I was please with its appearance, it looked very similar to the ceramic tile we had installed in a near by room. It went down quickly, had a few issues with tiny spaces between tiles here and there that I could not correct. Also had some issues with a few of the tab edges cracking so you have to be careful not to put to much pressure on these edges as you are trying to get them as tight a fit as possible. I ordered both ship to the store and ship to the home. The boxes shipped to my home were in terrible shape so I can imagine how many broken tabs the boxes contained. Can't use them if they are cracked/broken so I returned them the boxes. The boxes from the store were in much better shape, only a few were cracked. My project took 9 boxes.

I found this way more difficult to install than normal sheet linoleum. The end result looks nice but its not worth the difficulty of installation. Also you cannot use rubber backed rugs with this product or you run the risk of yellowing. It also says not to use liquid swifter products to clean. Instead you have to buy their brand of floor cleaner which is available only online. On the flipside if i need to tear it out at least its not glued down.

I recommend taking your time to get the cuts as close as possible, then caulk around the edges with a coordinating colored caulk. I watched a few YouTube videos before starting and got some excellent tips. Beware -- it's not easy to separate two tiles if you don't get them right, so go slowly. I ordered five boxes and in one box seven of the tiles were cracked, but I was able to work around that by using the cracked area as the waste. Excellent value for the money, though.

What I found is that it does go down rather easily but if you need to reposition a tile it is very difficult. The instructions indicate that you have 10 to 15 minutes to separate joined pieces but that is simply not true. I found that while you can separate them, even after about 30 to 60 seconds, you run the high risk of the adhesive strips tearing apart. I lost several tiles to this problem. I also wish I had not chosen the Sheridan Slate because there are no grout lines in the pattern so all of the tile joints are noticeable - some more than others. I put in my floor to cover an old linoleum floor in anticipation of prepping my house for sale. I was not as pleased with the final look as I expected and am rather glad it's not a floor I will be living with. I know there are others who say the tile goes together easily but I wonder if those are relatively smaller projects. I did about 600 sq. ft. working around a lot of cabinets so I probably had a tougher task than many. I consider myself an advanced DYI'er.

Not quite as easy as they say especially in a room where a lot of cutting is required. Once it's stuck together you are not getting it back apart. All in all though looks pretty good for the price.

So the floor was just installed and has yet to stand the test of time, but so far it has exceeded my expectations. I chose the allure tile because we had vinyl sheet previously in our kitchen and I did not want to have to install a subfloor in order to place tile. Other luxury laminates were quite thick and would still raise the level of our floor quite a bit in comparison to the rolled vinyl that was there before. In comparison to other options, this is quite thin, although it doesn't have the "tile" feel that other alternatives do. It is a bit "plastic" like, but not in a bad way. I had this professionally installed, and I am glad I did. It took a single contractor from 8:30 to 2:30 non-stop, and this included all the trim and a matching stair kit that looks fantastic. Home depot was fantastic scheduling everything. The tile needed to sit in my house for two days prior in order to acclimate. When the original delivery was short a few boxes, a store manager personally brought my additional boxes to the house so they would have enough time to set. The flooring expert was really great as she was able to answer questions over the phone that home depot corporate was a little vague about. I think the color is really hard to photograph. I looked at other reviewers photos and had a hard time picking this because it just looked "off" in photos. My husband convinced me towards the more modern travertine and I am glad because it's stunning in person. The color just doesn't pick up well in pictures. Trust me that this overall appearance is much warmer and really nice. The only drawback is that it seems a bit slippery. In just socks it is easy to slide around, so I need to be extra careful with the kids if they are running around.
