Customer Questions & Answers

Is it slippery? Need to know.

Asked by: tallgirl
We just installed Livorno Vinyl Tile Flooring in two small bathrooms. I suppose it could be slippery if you stepped on it with wet, dripping feet. If you wear slippers, flip flops, etc., there will be no slipping.

When lying the plank tile, do you match the look of the tile seams in the next line to lay?

the planking looks like 3 tiles together, so do I match the tiles the in the sec, third and so on until done?

for this marble like floor it isn't absolutely necessary.

Any special considerations when installing over aging ceramic tile that has begun to crack and lose some grout?

Asked by: Anonymous
Yes, DON'T do it. I thought my subfloor was smooth & within a month had to replace a plank as an ever so slightly raised screw was making a bump in the tile. This flooring floats so any grout that works loose or ceramic tile that shifts or lifts when it cracks WILL absolutely show & make bumps in the planks.

FOR INSTALLING ALLURE PLANK #42112 IN BATHROOM

I try to install Allure tile pattern #42112 in my bathroom over an old one layer vinyl floor which is small about 6x7 foot. How should I treat the seam between the tile edge and the tub (considering of the water leaking problem) - should I left it at least 1/8 inch gap or left almost no gap? can I seal the tile margin with the under old vinyl tiles and caulk the gap between the new tile edges and the tub margin or need to left it free? Even if I can use complete adhesive assembling method? which adhesives can be used for? Thank you!
Asked by: Cisihaha
Well, I can't speak with authority, but I can tell you that I too have some gaps that I don't like. I think what I will do is try and find a bathtub calking that matches as much as possible the Livorno Tile I purchased and take my finger and rub the calking into the cracks and remove any excess. Because the glue is so adhesive, that's what makes it "waterproof" but you don't want to depend on that so I'm going to take the "calking road" and try and fill in those gaps as much as possible.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Strange shipping! We haven't installed our tile yet, so can't comment on that; however, we can comment on the fact that we ordered three boxes of it. Two were fine; the third box had been very carefully opened, the tile removed and then very carefully taped back up! Customer service ordered us the third box again, but it would appear someone got a free box of tile! Just thought you would like to know.

In the end - the product looks lovely and I love the look and feel of it in my bathroom. But it was not an easy install. My brother put this down for me in our small bathroom. Our bathroom floor is not perfectly flat - so matching the seams so nothing will come through was difficult and took some time to install. Our house is an older home, so that may have made it difficult. I will not be using this product in other parts of the house, although it really looks nice once down. My brother says it's just too much trouble to install.

I strongly advise reading the installation instructions, even if an experienced person will be installing the tile. We did not print them out. My nephew got the tile installed in less than 3 hours. But now I realize we should have first used a patching/leveling compound on the basement floor. The floor seemed level enough, and the Home Depot associate assured me that I need to purchase only a roll of thin "moisture barrier". Result: the tile looks nice. But nephew said it might not lie flat.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Solid, durable floor but would like tighter seams. All-in-all, the floor is very durable and a great product. The size of the tile, 3' x 1', helps speed up the process of laying down the floor. The main thing that bothers me with all of these vinyl tile products is that it is nearly impossible to get all of the seamlines tight. While they were very thin seamlines at 1/64 of an inch, a few gaps were about 1/32 of an inch wide. This seems to be the nature of the product because even when you snug them up really tight, they tend to spread apart slightly which becomes noticeable when looking down at the floor. I think this is because the adhesive strips that border the tile are slightly cupped. I tend to be a perfectionist when it comes to this type of thing. I am using caulk afterwards to fill in some of these gaps which does a great job of hiding them.

It is very hard to cut to fit. Some of the planks were not cut evenly causing spaces between. They did not stick well. After two days, the planks starting separating. I was not going to remove hardwood molding and start over so I had to caulk the cracks to conceal them. I will never buy this product again.
