Questions & Answers

We have 3 dogs, how will this type of flooring stand up to claws even though they are cut back monthly ?

Asked by: LAM
Keeping their claws trimmed is important. My one dog does have a fairly difficult time moving at times = these planks are slippery for dogs paws. But I will say that she has comes into the area I have this flooring more now than she had in the past. Coincidence? Can't be sure. Using runners or area rugs may be helpful.

The hickory vinyl planking is not available in any of the Home Depot stores within 50 miles of where I live

Do all Home Depots carry samples to view, at least???
Asked by: Ga in Pa

I have flooring down now but would like to just cover it with the laminate flooring. Will I need to tear up the old floor covering before laying this?

Start in a closet or some where that you can afford to mess up and work your way out to the more noticeable areas. Takes practice and patience to cut around trim and split boards at the end of a large room project. I suggest using the floor cleaner allure sells for this, many times it is not in the stores but online only. Stands up to dog urine, kid throw up, and traffic. Keep the heels off until you are outside. If it sticks too early and not in the location you want, use a blow dryer to heat the sticky part up before trying to pull it apart. If you just jerk it apart it won't stick down the same and you will have a plank lifting and it look terrible.

We installed 1700 square feet of flooring throughout our entire house. It looked great when we first put it in. It has never looked good since then. No matter what cleaner we use on it there always appears to be a film. There are scratches even though we put pads on the bottom of everything. There are dents and divots and seams seperating throughout the house. We have not gone back to Home Depot yet. We highly suggest finding another product. We would NOT recommend this product. We spent a lot of time energy and money remodeling our house and the floor looks terrible!

It's been about 4 months since I finished installing throughout my 1300 sq ft house. I actually enjoyed installing it. You will get better at it as you go along. Mistakes will happen, don't fret, just get another plank and try again. For hallways and room transitions, you definitely want to get a cheap heat gun and the Allure extra grip strip pack and roll of double sided tape. They are both inexpensive. Just cut an inch off the back with heat gun and blade, add the double sided tape, and then a new piece of grip strip. This will also make the flooring go a lot farther for mistakes you make here and there. It's kind of difficult to comprehend until you actually start doing the work. I used a drywall T square to make cuts. i also went through several pack of utility knife blades. I went right over the concrete slab. I have a lower level corner where my 1970s slab settled and cracked. This floor flexed right over it, no problem so far. I'm really happy with the flooring.

East to install if you stay focused....the instruction state that you have 15 minuets to correct any mistakes. I say you may have 15 seconds if you are lucky. Hence the stay focused comment. Also it marks easy (that is) when you slide furniture, or have pets. The floor does not scratch, but i guess you would say it scuffs. You can tell something had been moved across the floor. It does look really nice and it also is warmer that a glue down floor. The flooring has been installed for 2 months and so far all is well. Did I mention focus on the installation?

We have had this flooring in our basement for 7 years and it still looks brand new. I ordered some just recently to finish an area we did not initially do. You cannot tell the difference where the new starts and the old ends. The area we have had it in for seven years has a lot of traffic. Grandkids have ridden tricycles and played on it and it still looks great. It is also so easy to put down, with minimal care needed. Just routine sweeping and mopping does the job. Also, everyone always thinks it is a hardwood floor. Great product.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from We purchased this flooring to replace our old linoleum floor. The price, the look, the advertise... We purchased this flooring to replace our old linoleum floor. The price, the look, the advertised wear resistance, and the advertised ease of installation were why we decided to purchase it. We had about 200 sq ft to cover in our kitchen and a powder room so we ordered 10 cases (~24 sq ft per case, about 20% extra). I installed it myself over a concrete subfloor (removed all existing flooring). Had my kitchen and bathroom been perfectly square, this floor would be no problem to install. However, our kitchen has a pantry and laundry room that required lots of cutting L's, T's and U's. Had this been regular wooden flooring, cut it with a saw, no problem. With this flooring, you use a razor blade and break the piece out. On straight cuts, this works great. On L's, T's and U's, this does not work so great and requires a lot. You have to do it in small sections or risk damaging the non-waste piece. It took a long time and I went through about 40 razor blades (the edge dulls after a few cuts and affects how well the piece breaks). It was easy to line up the planks on long straight sections and it was easy placing the planks without any gaps. It was a little tricky to keep them straight over long sections. It took two days to remove the existing floor and install the new one. I ended up having 2 full boxes and 1 half box left over. Several of the boxes were damaged causing cracks and breaks in the grip strip portion on a lot of the planks. I was able to hodge-podge it together and make it work but still super annoying. The floor looks great. However, the floor is not very durable. It hasn't "scratched" yet but there are rub marks (they don't come off), some out of the box, some caused by my family from like a laundry basket sliding across the floor or a toy or something. I have three kids under 6 so lots of movement and stuff. Based on the advertisement, I thought it would have held up. I would guess that dogs or cats on the floor would destroy this floor. I would only recommend this floor for a low-traffic, square room.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Durable, easy to clean, high quality Installation of the product was really easy. Just make sure you have lots of extra utility blades as they will dull quickly. Installed 25 boxes in a living room, kitchen, hallway two bathrooms and laundry room. hardest part is hardest part is in the bathroom around the toilet, making sure not to cut too much to leave a wide Gap. Be sure to buy laminate or vinyl putty in the color you need to fill in any gaps.
