Customer Questions & Answers

Do you need the roller (shown in the video) for installation or can you press down manually on the planks to get the same result?

When I first installed about 1200sqft of allure GripStrip plank flooring in a basement reno in 2007 I used a rubber mallet to set the seams flash forward to 2016 there have been no issues with it separating and I've installed allot of it since then using a rubber mallet with no issues.

Do you need to put down any type of cushioning material before floating the floor?

Asked by: Anonymous
I laid this flooring down by myself, in my 10' x 10' office a year ago and still love it. I'm 63 years old and it only took me a couple of hours to complete the entire project, including removing the toe molding trim around the baseboards first, which wasn't necessary, I just chose to do it so the flooring would be situated underneath the baseboard trim. (The old flooring was 8" x 8" adhesive backed tiles, that many were loose, so I removed all of those the night before.) Since I would be putting down the new planks over a concrete foundation, as was recommended on the box, I laid the recommended plastic sheeting down first before laying the Allure vinyl plank flooring. I am so impressed with this product, as is anyone else that sees it and walks over it. It truly looks (and sounds) just like real wood planks. Although it CAN be scored and snapped apart with just a utility knife and straight edge, I wanted a cleaner, sharper edge so the ends would butt up against the next plank better, so I cut mine with my chop saw. LOTS faster and sharper cut. If I had known how much easier this product was going to be to install, and how much more wood-like it was going to be visually, I would have laid in my hallway too, instead of the real wood vineer planks that I had installed a month earlier, which took me over a week to install myself that cost me almost 3 times as much. I STILL highly recommend this product!

Can this product be installed over existing vinyl or does the old have to be removed first?

Asked by: Anonymous
I installed over existing sheet vinyl as all it requires is a flat base. If I'd had rips/tears in the vinyl I would have removed it. It looks awesome, is completely silent & I'm so happy I went with this product.

what can I do to repair seams that have pulled apart?

We installed this flooring in our basement about 18 mos ago. There are now several places where the seams are lifting. We push them back down and the next day they have lifted again. During installation the instructions mentioned a special tape made with contact cement. I couldn't find it at our local store. Does it exist? Does it work? Where can I buy it? How do I install it?

Did anyone get any where with this question? I'm having the same issue. Oh sure just peal up the problem tile and replace. Not so simple. The adhesive strip cracks n breaks offor making me tear up more planks to replace. By the time I'm done I'll have to replace the entire floor.

I have this in my Kitchen for approx 8+ years with six large dogs (not at once) - I have to say very little scratching and wear and tear - (there's definitely a limit to the surface like dragging the ottoman back and forth) I had the bright idea of trying to replace "a few" of these and to my amazement it worked - going very slow to dislodge the boards where needed - To my real surprise is you can't tell the difference from old to new... Even the Sales person said it wouldn't match....I know this isn't the best way to do it - but for me it worked. - Just an FYI - if you use one of those "shark" steamers and are not careful - it will sear the finish off in seconds...

I just recently installed the cherry Allure Gripstrip floating floor in the basement of my home. My rating shows that yes I would recommend this produce but in reality I haven't had it in for more than a week so time will tell. I found it very easy to install and I do like the looks plus it appears that it will be very easy to clean. As you install the floor you really need to "pick" from more than one box at a time so as to distribute the slight variations in color throughout the floor. As I said above, I installed this flooring on an older concrete basement floor that has been in place for well over 15 years. The basement is very dry with well drained soil conditions throughout the property - newer construction and moisture has never been a problem. I have several "butt joints" that will not stay glued down - I have rolled these plus as per the HD website have even warmed them with a hair drier to reactivate the glue and re-roll but still experiencing the same problem. I called the 800 number and was told that a moisture barrier is needed on concrete floors. I was somewhat dismayed to hear this as I asked the sales associate at HD and was told that yes you can put this product down directly over a concrete floor - the box leads you to this same conclusion as do the directions that are included inside the box (page 6). However if you continue on reading the included directions you will find a a table on page 8 (in very small font) that states if the moisture test on a concrete floor rage from 0-5% a 6 mil poly barrier is required - why don't they just say that a poly barrier is needed over all concrete floors since you'll never be less than zero on a moisture test? In conclusion, the manufacturer stated that the "butt joint" problems are due not using a moisture barrier. I don't agree with their statement as all of these "butt joint" problems are located in the same area of the floor and the entire floor was installed in the same manner at the same time. Also the number of the "butt joint" problems match the number of flooring pieces in a box witch leads me to think that there was a problem with the glue strip on one of the boxes and that it isn't a moisture problem. The manufacturer is sending me some adhesive to re-attach the "butt joints". Hopefully this takes care of the problem but time will tell. I don't think moisture is the problem but the manufacturer does - it just seems like it would be much easier to just state on the box and in the directions "that a moisture barrier is needed over all concrete surfaces". This would be far simpler than making you jump from section to section in the directions and finding the note in an almost un-readable table. I will re-post after receiving and installing the new adhesive.

My father helped install this over the weekend in my basement, and it took about 2 days, since my basement has some hard angles within it. I had spent a lot of time looking at reviews on Home Depot, so I wanted to share my experience, in case it can help anyone else. I have an all concrete basement, and we decided to use a 6 mill Plastic poly (as recommended by Allure) as a vapor barrier, just in case. We taped the plastic sheating down, and then installed the tiles right over it. This was the poly I went with: (A bit pricey, but I wanted to be sure it was 6 mill) I have included some photos of before and after. Love the look!

The overall look is great, but the material seems to have inconsistencies between pieces in quality. We are likely to have the installers come back out to correct with the hopes of a remedy. Overall, the rooms are much improved, but with a twenty five year guarantee, these are not problems I expected shortly after install onto a slab.

It still looks like new despite 2 dogs, 2 cats, and 3 children. We have not had any problems with gaps or opening seams. It was installed over concrete mostly with only one room having a wood subfloor. We purchased it during a black friday sale for about a dollar a sq ft. I particularly like the wood grain look and feel under my feet. I recommend making sure the floor is clean and as free of dust as possible before installing. Also, make sure there are no nail heads sticking up as these will be visible bumps on the finished installation. My favorite thing about this floor is that if the cats knock over their water dish and it sits there wet on the floor for hours there are no damages to the floor. We have also had a leak in the kitchen and another in the bath and neither one damaged the floors. I have had all kinds of floors in the past, wood, carpet, finished concrete, sheet vinyl, tile. These vinyl planks are the easiest to care for, the most durable, and the nicest looking ones I have had so far. Perfect for a family with children and pets.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from So far, a nice enough floor I have this in a small hallway that's unheated, so I will have to review it again after it has been through warm and cold seasons. It's very easy to install and very forgiving of a less than optimum flooring surface. Mine's installed over very old, gappy boards with ancient linoleum on top. My problem with the look is that these planks fit together so tightly, it has the appearance of patterned sheet flooring. If I use this product again, I will buy several different colors to see if I can get it to look more realistic.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from 5 year review - dont use in wet areas. One reason that one might select this flooring is by the perceived imperviousness to water… I knew that I wouldn't be able to evaluate this product until it had taken a fair amount of use, after all it is in my busy household. After five years, it's clear to see that dunk is getting between the seams and letting the floor bow up in places - just where our mud area is. It worked well for the past two years in the bathroom, but again water is causing the vinyl to let go. Maybe I will try an industrial adhesive when applying the replacement planks. The replacement process is easy enough, but this could be an annoyance in the long run.
