Customer Questions & Answers

This being a "floating" floor installation how does it sound walking on it? Does it have a hollow sound to it while walking on it ?

I'm concerned this being so thin will have a click click sound when you walk on it due to it flexing under the pressure of your feet since it is a floating installation
Asked by: Anonymous
Our first installer put down only plastic sheeting under it and it slaps then for the adjoining room I found a thin foam underlayment to dampen sound. Makes a huge difference.

can this be used on stairs?

Asked by: Anonymous
I see that in the product I am considering "African Wood Dark", they make many accessories to match including treads and risers for stairs. You should check the accessories for the product you are considering it may well be they have treads and risers to match (although I see they are a bit pricey).

We have 3 dogs, how will this type of flooring stand up to claws even though they are cut back monthly ?

Asked by: Anonymous
Keeping their claws trimmed is important. My one dog does have a fairly difficult time moving at times = these planks are slippery for dogs paws. But I will say that she has comes into the area I have this flooring more now than she had in the past. Coincidence? Can't be sure. Using runners or area rugs may be helpful.

It was really easy to install in my dining room . But, I realized by the time we got it installed it already had scratches on it, scratches that would not rub out. We have had it in our dining room for two weeks now. I am considering taking the rest of the flooring back, and not finish installing it in the kitchen.I am really upset about all the large scratches. My dogs have even put scratches on the floor. I don't think the scratches would have been as noticeable with a lighter wood, but they are awful on this dark color. I am very disappointed. I am looking to see if there is a warranty on it.

This was only my second time putting down flooring of any kind, and I covered about 500 square feet in my basement. The install was really simple and went quickly. Following directions I found the planks went down just as easily as they advertise, and for the most part are as easy to adjust if you don't quite lay it as close as you would like to the other tiles. The color on the High Point chestnut is just beautiful, especially flowing through my entire finished basement. We really love it. We had one of those basements you wore shoes into because the carpet just seemed funky. Now we go down with bare feet. Its really something. To trim you really just need a straight piece of wood or a ruler, and a sharp utility knife. Score it and break and you're off to the races.

We installed 1700 square feet of flooring throughout our entire house. It looked great when we first put it in. It has never looked good since then. No matter what cleaner we use on it there always appears to be a film. There are scratches even though we put pads on the bottom of everything. There are dents and divots and seams seperating throughout the house. We have not gone back to Home Depot yet. We highly suggest finding another product. We would NOT recommend this product. We spent a lot of time energy and money remodeling our house and the floor looks terrible!

I have used it in various other places in the church. This application was an office in the church. THE PROBLEM WAS THE AMOUNT OF DAMAGE TO THE PRODUCT DURING SHIPPING. Out of the 9 cases of flooring that was ordered, 4 cases had damage to the ends of the individual tiles in the package. It appeared that they had been dropped on the ends of the packages which damaged the ends and corners of the tiles in the boxes. I was very upset to the material loss due to damage.

Utility knife and straight edge is really all you need. The adhesive strips can break if you have to re-position a plank after laying ,so be careful the first time you lay down a plank. Other than that, it's really intuitive and easy. These cut much more easily horizontally than along their length, so when you get to the edge and have a row in which all the planks have to be cut lengthwise to fit, it can be tough. Regardless, it's far easier than any other sort of flooring. I did about 400 sq. feet in about 5 hours on my own. I used it in a recent basement reno for a bar area and it looks very good.

I'm a 56 year old woman and I installed it in my bedroom, by myself, and it turned out awesome! Easy installation... now I understand why people have recommended (and reminded) users to start at the far right. My mistake was that I started at the right, but not the farthest right (which is the entrance to our bedroom), because I wanted to work out the area in front of our closet first that has a cut-out/indent in front of it. Well, that made life a bit more difficult, because all of the bonding strips are on the left side of the planks, so when I got to the 'farthest right' area, I had to keep lifting pieces up. Just start with the farthest right area, as you are looking lengthwise at the room. Easy to cut, easy to place. Having never done anything like this before, I didn't quite understand at first the instructions about how after cutting the end of the plank to end a row, that you can use the other end to start the next row. (All cut ends must go to the wall, so that they're hidden by the molding). But, I was just a little nervous and overcomplicating things. Cut the end of your first row, (you cut it measuring from the right end), and then you can use the end of that at the beginning of your next row (so the cut side is against the wall). Anyway, it is really very beautiful! Also, it feels good underfoot, and is a lot quieter than the laminate that I have in the rest of the house. Eventually, we'll probably do the whole house in it. But, I won't be installing all of that myself, LOL! (I could, if I were still 30, but alas, I am not).
