Customer Questions & Answers

How do you replace a damaged tile in the middle of the floor.

this is vinel 6" by 36" self sticking planks
Asked by: Anonymous
Use a hair blow dryer to loosen edges of damaged piece. Slowly slip a drywall knife between the pieces and work them apart sideways. Do not twist the drywall knife. It is helpful to wrap the blade in the wax sheet that comes between planks in the box and to slip the sheets between the pieces you are separating as you go. You can also cut an X into the piece you are removing to make it easier to get out. If you lose the glue on an edge that is remaining you can get a package of tape specifically for resticking edges together (online) made for allure, or I've had success using rubber cement for readhering strips.

For Allure planking, should you use an underlayment? Also, what do you use to transition to tile and carpet?

Asked by: Anonymous
No underlayment is might ask you installer if you need to use a leveler before installing. I did not require either.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Adhesive failure Home Depot certified installer laid 2 bedroom apt in 2012. Tenant stated floor planks lifting under bed. When tenant vacated property in 2015, many planks in three rooms had lifted and or shifted. Lifting of edges and shifted planks were in areas covered by furniture, beds in both bedrooms and where there was no traffic pattern to compress adhesive regularly. Made warranty claim and independent inspector claims installation at fault. I disagree, this is clearly an adhesion failure. Waiting to get this resolved. In the meantime, new tenant moved in with really damaged floors after only 3 years.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Flooring I had this floor installed in the kitchen of a rental home we rent out and then installed in our kitchen. It is beautiful. It sweeps up easily and cleans great. The only thing it does show water makes when you drip on the floor, but you just wipe up. This was so easy to install and looks like a professional did it. You do not want to take a piece out because it says you have 15 min. until it bonds it's self real good, well maybe 5 seconds then it stuck. You can get it loose and the best way is probably wwith a heat gun on low. I am so happy with my new floor. Just make sure the floor you put it on is clean. No bumps because they will show through.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Realistic Product! We bought this flooring for our kitchen/breakfast nook areas. My 70 year old, retired husband and handyman put down about 240sf. He said it was great to work with and the cuts were easy. The floor looks absolutely beautiful and has a rich wood look, much like a medium oak or pecan color. One suggestion, if laying in kitchen, remember when moving your appliances, make sure you place something underneath (sliders, towels) or the floor will scratch. Just be careful and it will be fine.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice product I mixed Barnwood and Tradition because I was worried about not having enough variation. But even in doing that I felt the Barnwood patterns repeated mkre often or were more noticeable than the Tradition. I have three large dogs and it is holding up well so far. Their claws leave "scuff" marks but have not scratched the floor. The care information says to use allure single step polish with a scotch pad to removes those "scuff" marks. It really works! Then you just follow that up by applying the polish with a sponge mop. It was easy to install. It has a softer feel and softer noise than most laminate.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Looks great! We had about 650sqft of this flooring professionally installed by Home Depot. We did this because we had read about some people having problems with the seams lifting, and we wanted to be backed by the Home Depot installation warranty if this were to happen. The floor has been in for a couple of days and so far it looks great- the installers did a really nice job. There is absolutely NO odor with this floor- another problem we'd read about. We just had some new carpet put in as well and we can still smell that- but has been zero odor from this floor, not even a new floor smell. Directly after the install, we cleaned the floor with a vinyl floor cleaner (Armstrong Once n' Done) and then lightly coated the floor with two coats of the Allure Single Step cleaner and polish. I'm not 100% thrilled with this polish- it didn't coat evenly in some spots, but I know I can just remove it with the vinyl cleaner if I want. There have also been some scratches that have appeared on the floor already from one of our dogs- HOWEVER, this is NOT in the floor itself, they're in the polish. I can buff the scratch right out with a sponge and some more of the polish, easy as that. I think that because the polish doesn't dry hard (it's soft like a wax) it's easy to create a scratch or scuff in it- but it's not in the actual floor. it's a little disappointing to see that nicely polished floor already scratched up, but at least the polish is protecting the actual floor from getting scratched. The scratches are also VERY minor- you have to be looking at the floor in the right light to be able to see the scratch. Aside from this minor problem, we're happy with the floors! We have this same product (but in tile) installed in 2 of our bathrooms and they've held up perfectly after being installed for almost 2 years- I hope I can say the same thing about this flooring!!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Pull it Up! Our contractor recommended this product for its look and durability so we recently had him install it as the last part of our kitchen update. The flooring was put down about 3 weeks ago (he had installed this product numerous times with no problem). It was laid over 12" vinyl tiles that have been here for 20 years with no problem. Several of the Allure planks are coming up on the corners or edges. Our contractor is talking with HD about a fix. I would pull it up in a heartbeat if I could because I don't want to spend the next 20 years looking for/wondering if more planks are going to come up. Best to everyone else with this product.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Floor, but No Matching Transition Pieces I am very pleased with my bathroom, kitchen and dining room flooring, but Allure doesn't have any transition pieces available at Home Depot. I will have to go to a flooring store to match the pattern for transition pieces to go between my kitchen and dining room and the open floorplan living room. There is a 1/8 inch difference in height, which is significanly smaller than all of the transition pieces available at Home Depot.
