Trouble getting a tight seam when locking two sides of a tile

I like the look of this product and it is certainly easy to cut; either with a jig saw or a knife. It is easy to lock any number of tiles in a straight line. However, when I try to lay a tile that requires locking on two sides (the short and long sides) simultaneously, I can't get a tight seam on both sides; just one side is tight or the other, but not both. I have tried a tapping block and a pull bar, but nothing works. Any ideas? Many thanks.
Asked by: GlenDM
It is not an "easy" product to install but it can be done. Did you watch at least 2 installation videos on You Tube? There are too many reasons why you may initially be unable to get the seams tight. By the time my job was complete the pull bar tapping tab was bent 15º from its original position. I used a black headed rubber mallet along with the tapping block and the pull bar that did a great job of coaxing the seams to become very tight. Keep the 1/4" spacer materials around the 4 walls until the job is complete, then remove the spacers just prior to nailing the shoe base or quarter round to the baseboard.

Wall To Wall in a bathroom

Is it okay for this to be installed wall to wall in a bathroom - meaning under the bathtub and vanity cabinets? The bathroom I'm considering putting this in will be completely gutted so it won't be a problem putting it under everything, unless there's a good reason to not. I'm only considering doing this because I want to completely waterproof the floor so if any water gets under the tub it won't rot the wood out. I plan on sealing the planks at the walls.
Asked by: Wilber
No. "Do not install allure over carpet or any foam underlayment. This product is not suitable for any outside use, sunrooms/solariums, saunas, or rooms that have the potential of flooding. We also highly recommend you do not install in rooms or homes that are not temperature controlled. Exposure to long term direct sunlight can cause damage to your floor. Note the room temperature when installing allure. Please make sure your thermostat is set above 65º F and below 85º F when installing allure. Room temperature is important! Subfloors must be carefully checked for moisture problems. allure Ultra is waterproof. It is NOT a water-proofer. Any moisture problems need to be addressed prior to installation. Failure to follow these guidelines will void the warranty."

What color is this exactly? White with grey? White with brown? Can this color work throughout the house?
Asked by: Anonymous
The color is mostly white with gray, although it has a touch of beige. This tile go with just about any decor. (It looks a little more beige in my photo than it actually is)

I was afraid of having any kind of "pieced" flooring because of our home's age. Our professionals installed this right over existing vinyl and it is gorgeous!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Okay, not great If you read through the one star reviews, I agree with them, but I think one star may be a bit harsh. I installed this for a family member in their kitchen. I'm no stranger to installing floors. I've done tile and hardwood throughout my own house. I've even done peel and stick vinyl on a temporary basis until I could come back and finish a renovation. I hated installing these tiles. Side to side, you insert a tile on an angle and then lower it to lock it in. End-to-end you "tap" the two ends together. Forget the laminate installation kit. I found it to be useless for this tile. Get yourself a dead blow hammer and pound on the ends to lock them together. Tapping will not do it. ('What's the difference?', you may ask. The difference is that tapping will not wake an infant two rooms away. Ask how I know.) You will see the height difference and gap disappear as you pound on it. If only the sides worked this way. When you put the sides in, I found that often times I was left with a very small gap that I could not get rid of. Maybe that's to be expected, but I was very annoyed by it. I think that it makes the floor look a lot worse. It wouldn't look so bad if the gap revealed the same base color sides as the tile surface. No such luck. The sides are a dark gray. See photos. Around the edges of the floor is always the hardest part. At the door jambs, I was left to either use an undercut saw to slide the tile underneath (this is the correct and best looking way) or to scribe the tile around the jambs. I was concerned about locking the tile in without being able to lift the edge that was under the door jamb. I chose to scribe it. Very difficult to do with a razor. Very poor results. Will have to be caulked. This is not the tile's fault, but my own and left here for others to hopefully learn from. The family member was very pleased with the floor, but I was not as the installer.

Now that the kitchen flooring project is done, it looks great and most importantly, the Mrs loves it. Installing this flooring is beyond the scope of most DIY homeowners. If you read the reviews from other users, this product is NOT "easy to install" and it is not "installed quickly". You must take your time, you must have a laminate installation tool kit with a rubber head mallet and you must follow the instructions. It is easy to clean with Swiffer wet pads and a motorized floor sweeper. I found that a jigsaw with a fine tooth blade made was excellent for cutting out notches in the flooring when working around cabinets, doorways and closets.

This product advertises easy installation, however, after carefully laying it down it had to be taken off and reinstalled a second time to try to eliminate slight gaps that appeared between tiles. Even after careful installation the second time the tiles still migrate away from each other leaving gaps. We finally ended up using sanded silicone in the gaps to try to keep the tiles together. The tile also scratches easily. On the plus side, it is an attractive tile.

I like the looks of the product, It is fairly thick, and for the most part goes together fairly fast. I find cutting it with a Stanley knife is a bit difficult and in some cases fitting it together in hard places is tricky. If it dose not come apart in a few years, that will be great. by the way, I don't know how to send you a picture, sorry.

I tried to install without viewing the the short video which was a mistake. The simple tips the video shows you make the installation relatively easy. The finished product is beautiful and looks like a professional installation. A pencil, tape measure, sharp knife for scoring the tile, a hacksaw for fine cuts around moulding and such and a hammer and block of wood are all I needed to do a whole room in one short day.
