Trouble getting a tight seam when locking two sides of a tile

I like the look of this product and it is certainly easy to cut; either with a jig saw or a knife. It is easy to lock any number of tiles in a straight line. However, when I try to lay a tile that requires locking on two sides (the short and long sides) simultaneously, I can't get a tight seam on both sides; just one side is tight or the other, but not both. I have tried a tapping block and a pull bar, but nothing works. Any ideas? Many thanks.
Asked by: GlenDM
It is not an "easy" product to install but it can be done. Did you watch at least 2 installation videos on You Tube? There are too many reasons why you may initially be unable to get the seams tight. By the time my job was complete the pull bar tapping tab was bent 15º from its original position. I used a black headed rubber mallet along with the tapping block and the pull bar that did a great job of coaxing the seams to become very tight. Keep the 1/4" spacer materials around the 4 walls until the job is complete, then remove the spacers just prior to nailing the shoe base or quarter round to the baseboard.

Wall To Wall in a bathroom

Is it okay for this to be installed wall to wall in a bathroom - meaning under the bathtub and vanity cabinets? The bathroom I'm considering putting this in will be completely gutted so it won't be a problem putting it under everything, unless there's a good reason to not. I'm only considering doing this because I want to completely waterproof the floor so if any water gets under the tub it won't rot the wood out. I plan on sealing the planks at the walls.

No. "Do not install allure over carpet or any foam underlayment. This product is not suitable for any outside use, sunrooms/solariums, saunas, or rooms that have the potential of flooding. We also highly recommend you do not install in rooms or homes that are not temperature controlled. Exposure to long term direct sunlight can cause damage to your floor. Note the room temperature when installing allure. Please make sure your thermostat is set above 65º F and below 85º F when installing allure. Room temperature is important! Subfloors must be carefully checked for moisture problems. allure Ultra is waterproof. It is NOT a water-proofer. Any moisture problems need to be addressed prior to installation. Failure to follow these guidelines will void the warranty."

Now that the kitchen flooring project is done, it looks great and most importantly, the Mrs loves it. Installing this flooring is beyond the scope of most DIY homeowners. If you read the reviews from other users, this product is NOT "easy to install" and it is not "installed quickly". You must take your time, you must have a laminate installation tool kit with a rubber head mallet and you must follow the instructions. It is easy to clean with Swiffer wet pads and a motorized floor sweeper. I found that a jigsaw with a fine tooth blade made was excellent for cutting out notches in the flooring when working around cabinets, doorways and closets.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Superior floor that looks fantastic We chose to do the 110 sq. ft. floor of our mudroom and pantry with Allure Ultra Aegean Travertine because of its high performance and durability in high traffic and potentially damp areas such as bathrooms. In our case wet shoes or snowy boots. This room is also high traffic as it is our most used entry from garage to the house. The floor was fairly easy to install. I had to pay close attention to locking of the seams. Highly recommend getting the Allure tapping block made of a tough solid nylon plastic material with groves to match the edge that needs tapping( long edges). Also used a rubber mallet to tap & seal short seam edges. I read directions thoroughly. Had bought underpayment but directions were explicit NOT to use an underpayment so I did not use. Can see now that tapping seams so hard would not be good over soft underlayment. Floor looks incredible and beautiful. If I ever need to redo my bathroom floors I will choose this product.

I tried to install without viewing the the short video which was a mistake. The simple tips the video shows you make the installation relatively easy. The finished product is beautiful and looks like a professional installation. A pencil, tape measure, sharp knife for scoring the tile, a hacksaw for fine cuts around moulding and such and a hammer and block of wood are all I needed to do a whole room in one short day.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Beautiful Flooring I just installed around 300 sq feet of this flooring in a kitchen/dining room in a friend's home with minimal problems. I am not a professional installer but do flooring as a side job and have experienced about any problem that floor installation could present. The key to installation with these planks are to keep them very square, and realize you will have to tap/strike each piece to get it seated properly. Line up the left side, then the front, and firmly strike the left side in place. Then tap the entire piece forward. Place unopened boxes on what you install to give it added weight to hold it in place as you go. It is tedious to install, but dont be scared away by reviews, just take your time and check each piece and use a large square to keep yourself in check. The owners love it and I think I have decided to install vinyl in my own home kitchen! I will try to upload photos!!!

It demos well in the store with a couple pieces but it is nothing like it at home. There are so many bad joints, the reason we bought it for (waterproof) will never happen. I have tried every possible way I can to make it work but all to no avail. I feel Like we spent a lot of money for a product I should have researched on our own and not listened to your store sales person who had not clear understanding of what he is selling. Had we done that we never would have bought it. I have been unhappy with products before but never with this kind of cost, frustration, current result, time wasted, not even wanting to show it to any one who knows I did the install. I really can not come up with a lot of good to tell you other than it is a nice looking tile and should have made for a great looking floor I don't expect to hear anything from you but I sure would like to know what you feel would be your proper response to this sort of a review should be to correct a bad situation, and unhappy costumer..

I was concerned about moisture as initially I was going to purchase a "pergo" style tile and after talking to Jim the flooring salesman at the Taylor Michigan Home Depot, he recommended this tile as it is WATERPROOF!. Great Choice Jim and by the way he was very helpful and knowledgeable!!!They were very easy to install once I got the hang of it, didn't see on the box instructions but once I went online to find the instructions did they tell me to snap the long joint in at a slight angle and then set down tile and use a rubber mallet to snap in short joint (the latter is what I didn't see on the box instructions). I installed two rows of tiles and I kept telling my wife that some thing wasn't right...... I didn't like how the short joint didn't seem to be seating properly. The hardest thing was cutting the tile, instructions said to score tile with a utility knife..... I did that for a few tiles and then tried using a small cordless circular saw and it worked great. Just be sure to use a pair of safety glasses and cut tiles somewhere you don't mind making a mess. Personally I don't think that scoring with a utility knife is very safe as the tile finish seems to be hard and doesn't score that easily. Hope this helps someone else. I will definitely use these tiles again!!!!
