Customer Questions & Answers

Should Allure Ultra be applied directly over cement floor which has some staining & glue residue or should some sort of vapor barrier be put down?

Cement floor has been scraped and leveled
Asked by: Anonymous
My advice is do not waste your money putting this down in the basement. I laid down Allure Ultra and what seemed like a perfect fit only ended up as boards peeling apart later. When I told Home Depot about it, they were quick to point out my floor must not be level. I did patch jobs to even out the floor, but if your basement floor is sloped to a central drain, don't even bother because you will be flushing your money down the toilet. I've concluded the $1700+ I spent on Allure Ultra has been the worst money I have ever spent. If people tell you otherwise, be very cautious... you are rolling the dice on whether or not it works, so unless you're OK with potentially losing the money you've spent, don't do it. You have been warned.

I am planning on putting this on a cement slab. Can I put any kind of cushion under it?

Asked by: Roxy
I don't believe they will warranty the product with a cushion under it. I like mine on the cement slab without a cushion. It is much softer than walking on Cement by far and not hard like tile either.

What type of backing on area rugs can be used on this flooring

Asked by: DRJohn
I do not know exactly but I have had VERY BAD experiences with rubber backed rugs on other vinyl flooring so be CAREFUL. It discolored my floor everywhere I put the rugs. Something in the rubber reacts with the vinyl and ruins the color of your floor. Also be careful with those scratchy backed rugs made with cheap carpet. I think they may dull the finish over time, especially if they move around when you walk on them. They make a product in sheets to put under rugs and they sell it at Home Depot.

Installed last week and seems to very durable and resistant to scratches with a real wood look. Installed 450 sq. ft. myself and I would have to agree with the consensus... This stuff is not easy to work with. The tongue and groove is brittle and causes the floor to come apart or, even worse, break which can be extremely frustrating. Not sure the money saved doing it myself was worth the extreme headache of installing it. That said, man does this floor look great in my lower level. I'm glad I went with it, but would recommend hiring someone to install it.

I love how it cleans up and looks so nice. So when my husband and I decided to continue the flooring in our dining room and living room, we wanted to go with the same product from Home Depot. I looked for a coupon on this flooring but could not find one, Home Depot offers many coupons and discounts for other flooring but unfortunately not this one. So we ordered the flooring. When ordering on-line the flooring is delivered to your door, a big plus! One drawback with the flooring was brought to our attention by our contractor. When the new flooring was placed next to the old, the edge was manufactured differently, did not click in. The good news is that our contractor was able to cut off the factory edge of the new and caulk the seam so the transition to the old floor is not noticeable. The seam was in a doorway, had it been down the middle of the room the transition would be very noticeable. All in all I love the floor and color!

I found it slightly difficult at first but soon developed a feel for assembly and was able to complete the installation in less than a day. It holds up great and gives a look and feel of real wood. I recommend using felt pads on your furniture as it is possible to scratch the surface but it is still not very noticeable. This product was a great choice for the basement. It looks beautiful, easy to keep clean and is very durable. I installed it directly over the concrete and required no adhesives.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful and Tough! We replaced various types of outdated flooring throughout the entire first floor of our house with this stuff and we are thrilled with it. We chose it because, of all the samples I brought home, the Allure Ultra click-lock was the only stuff that resisted scratching from my dog's claws and other quality-control tests that we invented for it. I feel confident that it will hold up to years of abuse from my kids and dogs. It was pretty easy to work with and it looks amazing. It feels like a whole new house!

We purchased 260 sq. ft. of this material to redo our bath, utility and kitchen floors. Very happy with the product, it looks great just like real wood, only it's better because it's waterproof and has a tougher more durable surface area. I used my electric mitre saw with fine tooth blade to cut and table saw to rip. It worked better than the razor knife & snap method - saving your hands and time. We strongly recommend this product!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing look and feel! I had Jim Berg and his crew install this all over my River Cabin home in Webster Wi and I can tell you it is gorgeous! I picked this color and texture to recreate a refined distressed barn wood feel! The color is exceptional and picked up both the grey and gold tones I needed to bring all of my real wood together! I love the feel of this underfoot! These floors are mildew and water proof and so you can install them anywhere! So easy to clean and does not show scratching! I am very picky when it comes to interior design and I am extremely happy with this product! My installer of course did an exceptional job and it made the floors warmer to touch and sound proof! I highly recommend this product and the price is good too!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Looks great, but a pain to install Took on our basement for my winter project (aprox 400 sqft). Researched flooring options and was leaning towards carpet, but after finding out about a waterproof flooring option, I was convinced to go this route. I read nearly all 1000 reviews, usually dismissing negative ones, because I assumed if something is difficult or goes wrong, it's the installer.... The flooring looks awesome, but the install was less than pleasant. I've done my share of floors (hardwood and tile), but this was by far the trickiest flooring to get in place. I had a 3/4" gap between the new drywall and the concrete, so there was a lot of shifting happening when tapping the planks tight. The tongue and grove system has nearly zero margin of error. It's either in or not, so that took some practice. Had no problem scoring/snapping the pieces. I only scored over each cut twice. If a short amount needed to be cut off, after scoring, I stepped on that end of the plank to give me leverage while bending it, snapping easily. I did use my table and miter saw for some of the cuts to get around certain corners. Here are a few pointers I learned from some online blogs, reviews, and/or from my learning curve: -THIS IS HUGE: fill a spray bottle with rubbing alcohol to lubricate the joints. Burned my scrapped knuckles like heck, but stinging reduced the swearing & fighting with the planks not fitting tightly together. Made sliding the planks side to side a lot easier. -make sure your spacers are not going to shift. Once you have a few rows in place, you can weigh down the rows with unopened boxes. -buy the tapping block, or use a couple edge scraps as a tapping block (one for long edge & one for the end. -tap the planks together often to ensure the seams are staying tight and a smooth edge between planks within the same row. -use a pry-bar to get the last piece in each row in place. Of course use a piece of scrap to use between the wall and the pry-bar so you don't dent the wall. -end join planks together for full rows if possible. Butt up to the newest row, then work your way down the row to angle in and snap into place. This was much easier for shorter rows (about 12'), and saves you the headache of tapping the ends of the planks or using the pry-bar (especially near the glass face of the fireplace). If it weren't going to be installed in the basement, I don't think I would ever use this product again for a larger space. Looks great, but not the smoothest DYI project I've dealt with. The packaging claims to be the easiest floor ever, which is total BS....Good luck, hope my tips help.

We have had it for a month already and even when it has cooled off in our house the flooring hasn't been as cold as tile. The flooring is located in the bathroom too and it has done great with our toddler too.
