cleaning method question

just installed in our bathroom and it looks amazing! Question: can I use my shark to clean this, I love the hot steam cleaning!
Asked by: Anonymous
As a general caution, I would be careful with using a steam mop. Steam mops create fantastic results in the short term, but as a consequence they often force moisture (steam) into places that don't have an easy way to expel it. With wood floors this is an issue because the material beyond the top coat of the floor is porous and may (very rarely) expand as a result of the trapped moisture being forced into the joints. Although this example doesn't apply to you, I've included it because it's a common issue with steam mops. As it pertains to products like Allure Ultra (and Allure) you should also be wary because it will void your warranty. I AM NOT an expert (on anything, especially) on your warranty but I would imagine steam cleaning may cause issues because you're likely to force moisture between Allure and your subfloor and you may also subject the superficial floor covering to temperatures outside of its operating spec (from personal experience DO NOT INSTALL ALLURE non ultra IN RVs or OTHER AREAS THAT ARE NOT CONSTANTLY CLIMATE CONTROLLED).

Anyone have trouble installing large quantities of this?

My husband and I are looking to install about 1100 sf of this and I was wondering if anyone has experience working with that much material. We would be putting it in a great room kind of area including the living room, kitchen and dining room. Does it have separation issues when used in that big of a room?
Asked by: LauraTe
My husband has laid approx 900 squad ft of it. He did say that it took alot of muscle pushing and snapping the planks together. He was meticulous about the joints being tight. Laminate was easier. We installed it over underlayment We are pleased. Just looking for the right wax for it..

Is the floor non-slip?

Asked by: tonette
I did find that for scratches, I lightly dab on a clean cloth some old English polish. Please check with Allure, but for us no problems. The polish covers the scratch. Just a dab will do it!

This flooring was introduced to me by a Professional Installer. Some of the reviews say that a pro even had a hard time. The Contractor that recommended this told me, "This is great flooring if you put the time into the install". I had a Pro Contractor doing our bathroom and he took one look at it and said "This stuff I have never worked with and it sure looks very difficult to install." He then said if I want it, I will have to install it myself. Now to my install, (keep in mind, I am not a handy man at all, I implemented everything I know about this floor from what the salesman at Home Depot told me and common sense.) I have done two rooms so far, and will be doing my Hall, Living Room and Dining Room/Kitchen with this . The key to this installs is you cannot be in a rush. you do not need a hammer of any kind, you need to spend time to tap it in with your palm, lightly. You should watch a few videos about installing this, it is super easy, I am not kidding. If you do not spend the time to make sure you get the seams tight they do spread apart, you can feel it when it is in. My first room has been in for over 1 year, not spreading at all. My wife and I took our time to tap it in with our palm (wear a glove). You have to lock the left side in by lifting it up a bit, then at an angle you put the long side in, then tap....seriously that is it. As I said I am not a handy man, but this is great if you take your time. So back to the Bathroom Contractor. He left and I had it done in 2 hours, even taking a coffee break. He came back after I had it done. He got down and looked, and said, "wow, you did a great job, I was wrong about this stuff it looks great." So don't go by the reviews that say they had a pro do it, I have never done a project like this before, I can paint, but that was about it. Very Very worth the money. On a side note; if you put a underlayment down, since this is vinyl it can feel a little more like vinyl with a squish/bounce. Very minimal, but my family can tell a difference between the two roooms I did, one with underlayment one without. I used the AntiMicrobial Airguard more expensive "foam balls" one from Home Depot, but I would probably use underlayment in a heavy traffic area like a hall or living/dining rooms. Take the time to try the few that are laying on the shelf at Home Depot, ask questions, take you time, It will be time well spent.

I thought it would last as well as the cheapest lam that we bought for our out building our dog sleep in and kids play in but we were wrong,

Over the last 4 years we have purchased THOUSANDS of square feet of this product. We install this in all our kitchens, dining rooms, and bathrooms in literally hundreds of apartments. It has held up extremely well. You can imagine in apartments we see all kinds of abuse. The only issue ive seen is dragging furniture across it. But most flooring types aren't going hold up to the abuse of dragging a heavy piece of furniture across it without leaving some sort of damage or mark. If you have ever installed wood laminate flooring, this will go very easy for you. If not, I suggest you experiment with a few pieces to understand how it locks together. Just like wood laminate flooring you can damage the interlocking sections if not installed correctly which would cause it to open up. Take your time and be patient. We like this flooring so much, we used it when we finished our basement in the bathroom and kitchen. This floor has the highest wear layer (21 mils) verses any other flooring ive compared it to.

I would not say it lives up to it's own billing as the easiest floor you will ever install. I have installed 3/4 inch hickory in the past, a notoriously hard wood making installation more difficult and found that easier to get the seems to bond between the planks than this (even though I followed the directions completely). Perhaps a professional would have better luck. I do find the floor very high quality and really like the dimensional aspect of it vs a perfectly flat board once I got it installed. The feel underfoot is also much nicer than ceramic. The product is ideally suited to be below grade and that is where I am using it.

I have installed this flooring in approximately 50 apartments and in my home. My experience is if installed correctly it does not separate. It will scratch if you drag furniture across it, otherwise a good product.

I was concerned at first after reading some of the reviews on this site as whether to buy Allure Ultra flooring. I took a chance and am glad I did. I had no problem with installation and the planks snapped together as they should. I laid them over top of an existing vinyl floor in a kitchen, which was approximately 15x20. The hardest part was cutting them. I used an old hand crank tile saw I borrowed from my dad. It took me about 4 hours to complete, but I was working alone. It's been down for about two months now and looks fantastic. I haven't seen any scratches on the vinyl and I'm not easy on it and neither are my dogs. I love the durability of the planks and the fact they're waterproof. Also I sealed the baseboard with silicone caulking in case water would work its way under them. Remember the surface is waterproof, the ends are not. I would highly recommend this product and will be buying more soon to finish an adjoining laundry room.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from EASY??? No... but Yes. Billed as the easiest floor to install but not at first. It took me 3 hours to get down my first 2 rows of ten ft. Out of utter frustration I got online and looked up reviews and videos. Seemed like every review from an experienced person was negative and yet rookies were touting just how easy it was. Through reading the reviews I was able to figure out the problem, this floor does not lay like other flooring. When trying to lay it like every other laminate, it is a pain in the Asscott. The tricks: 1. Does not require a saw, just a utility knife. True, but you need to score it on the top, print side. It's actually a pain to use a saw because the material doesn't cut well. It heats up the saw and left burn marks. However, once I realized you just need to barely score it and then just crack it over your knee, this moved way up on the ease of install scale. 2. Easy click lock it is not. One video out there shows a guy installing along the long end and then simply pushing down on the short end to snap it in. Unlike traditional laminate, I found it easiest to install this along the short end, slightly lift the row and gently nudge it in along the long side, like you were zipping up you jacket. I don't know if I'd buy it again, especially at the price but it certainly looks great once it's down. When moving the furniture in the room, we managed to put a good scratch in it. Will update once that has been resolved.
