I was sure this wasn't going to work, but I was desperate. The nap on my new carpeting was sending my area rug creeping to the North every time it was walked on. The only way to keep it in place was to weigh it down with furniture, but it still puddled around my coffee table in ripples. Since it was the carpeting that caused this I didn't think anything I applied to the rug would have any effect, but this pad works! It's tacky on both sides, so it grips both surfaces and they remain in place relative to each other. My rug is flat now!
I downgraded this pad a bit for ease of installation for two reasons:
1) The way it is packaged made it a bit difficult to unstick it from itself when opening it out flat. It would be easier in the smaller sizes, but the 5x8 size was somewhat hard to manage.
2) My 5x8 rug was difficult to position once the pad was on the back of it. However, I was doing this by myself. With two people placing the rug it would be no problem at all.
I highly recommend this rug-to-carpet pad. It accomplished something I thought was impossible, short of nailing my rug to the floor!

It supposed to keep the area rug from buckling on top of carpet. It does not work.

I purchased two of these pads based on the reviews. Unfortunately the area rugs that I needed to stay put over the carpet, DID NOT! They not only move quite a lot but also bunch up all over the place. Take my advice and stay clear of this item.

I was very glad to finally find the carpet gripper pad at Home Depot after a long search for it. Home Depot never disappoints me.

Not very sticky on either side. Foam is extremely thin. Will probably wear out in a short time.

I have a retail business and commercial carpet. I keep an area rug in the entry area. It's been a constant problem keeping the carpet straight and wrinkle-free until now. I bought two 5'x8' pads for use with an 8'x10' carpet. Problem solved! The area rug lies flat and doesn't move around.
The package contains no instructions. Briefly, I unpackaged and laid the pad(s) down on my carpet, sticky side down. Then I peeled off the thin plastic coating. I rolled the area rug onto the pad, squared it up, and then ran the sweeper to flatten the area rug out.
The pad is smaller than 5'x8' in order to leave a border around the area rug. The pad and the area rug can be carefully moved to place it correctly. Do not attempt to walk on the pad!

This is right up there with some of the worst products I've ever bought. I have two 20" long runners in my hallway. I bought two of these in the store, cut them to size and installed them correctly under the runners. I am constantly having to adjust the rug because they do not hold the runner in place. I have resorted to placing heavy textbooks on the edge of the runners to keep them down until I can find a new runner that works. This product was a complete waste of my money.
