I have in floor heating and other rug pads have melted and stained the tile.

Will the Home Rug Pad made of 85% PVC and 15% polyester melt at temps of 80 degree F?

Thanks,

Answer:
I doubt it at 80F but probably with age there could be some staining.

I don't have the manufacturer's specs on inflammability or heat resistance (you probably could get them), but just from my personal experience with this kind of item, I seriously doubt that 80 degrees F is sufficient to break down the integrity of the pad. What I suspect is that if the floor is heated to 80, when you add the pad and then the carpet over it, heat is being trapped between the pad/carpet and floor and not being allowed to escape or rise slowly into the room, so resulting temp between floor and carpet/pad is probably much higher than 80. This pad is vented with spaces between the fiber, so most heat will dissipate, and a natural fiber carpet will also usually allow for sufficient heat transfer (cotton moreso than wool), but if you have synthetic fiber carpets of man-made materials, they will trap more heat, especially if it is a very tight weave. You may want to investigate the appeal of a coir natural fiber carpet, which may not necessarily require an underlayment pad. Read Less

Answer:
Our area rugs would have no risk of melting under those temperatures, but it may dry out, reducing the traction/stickiness of the gripper. We do not have any test information that would indicate when this might happen. However, since the 80°F temperature would be within the requirements of our flooring, our area rug grippers should be stable up to that temperature.

Mary, I think the pads would be fine. Like any rugs/pads, I would recommend lifting them both off the floor somewhat regularly (monthly?) to clean the floor beneath and make sure there is nothing in the pad or beneath the rug to scratch the floor. At that point, you can check the floor...I doubt you'll have a problem.

Hey mary,
It will depend on your laminate flooring as well as how long the rug pads will be down that will determine if and how bad it would discolor the floor.
Some laminates can stain easier than others, but I would recommend to use the rug pad, and then check it every other week or so to see if any discoloration occurs.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Gripper Pad Cleaned floor, placed Gripper pad on the floor, placed floor matt on top, still slide around. A waste of money. May 31, 2016

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Safe for family and visitors The rug gripper was very easy to cut to the exact size I needed. It did not make the rug seem bulky, but very smooth. What an easy solution for safety and durability. July 22, 2014
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by doesnt grip the product doesn't keep my rug from moving. It doesn't grip the wood floor very well. February 16, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by First non-slip to do the job! The non-slip material was easy to cut to needed sizes, held well on hardwood floor, and allowed safe use of throw rugs. February 10, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by worst purchase, Also will never purchase another appliance from Home Depot.. I bought two packages. Opened package and cut the pieces. The material is not strong enough to hold a small bathroom rug in place. Returned the other package for a refund. I was very surprised that Home Depot would sell such a useless product. September 22, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Waste of money I purchased the floor gripper to keep in place the rugs in the kitchen, on tile floors, as was recommend by the sales associate... It does not grips. The rugs are constantly moving at the slightest touch. August 25, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Grips the rug like glue Works as advertised. One tip, make sure you keep it flat by rolling the rug carefully across it or it can bunch up and create ridges under your rug. You may have to fiddle a bit to get it right and even adjust it occasionally but it does a great job. July 15, 2015
