Is gluing preferable to a floating floor?

What is the preferred method for installing this floor? I worry about the noise with a floating floor, but wonder if a glued floor will not hold up as well, due to expansion? Any thoughts?
Asked by: FlooringNovice
to the person asking if you can put it over tile.. We did because there was enough room between tile and dry wall. It worked out great!

The only reason I did not give it a full 5 stars is for 2 reasons. 1. The edges chip super easily, especially when cutting. and 2. The instructions leave out some of the equipment you need. You will absolutely need a table saw, miter saw and a skill saw in order to make cuts correctly. Otherwise, I love it!

We installed this flooring in the bedrooms and it came out so well! This was my husband's first time installing any kind of flooring and he said it was easy. It definitely makes the rooms look amazing! We would recommend this to anyone looking for beautiful, inexpensive flooring!

Husband found it easy to install, I LOVE how it looks; just enough texture without being too busy, and we were worried it might be too dark, but it's not. I also like the wide plank look and it hasn't been installed long but seems to be holding up well to doggy toenails etc so far.

I had purchased a traffic master product for my house a year ago and when I went to buy more it was discontinued. My thought was to buy more of the same brand, traffic master, and design a new floor pattern utilizing multiple colors. I added 3, one of which was Alameda Hickory. The problem I had was that your products do not match up with each other. The tongue and grooves don't interlock. I don't think you advertized that they would I just was disappointed that they wouldn't.

I did about 2,000 sqft of this flooring a couple years ago and everything was fine then - Home Depot carried this in stock so I could inspect the boxes then to ensure the flooring was fine. However, my wife and I are currently renovating our kitchen so I needed some more of this flooring (not much, about 100 sqft). Now it is only available for online order (not available in stores anymore) and I decided to have it shipped directly to our local Home Depot in Brighton, MI. After waiting about two weeks for it to come I picked it up, brought it to my house and when I opened the shipping boxes, all four boxes worth of flooring was severely damaged - every. single. piece. I called the Home Depot and they just said bring it back and they will return it and reorder it. I also tried reaching out to the manufacturer with pictures and of course, no one ever got back to me. I went back to Home Depot and they couldn't do any rush order (again, of course) so they refunded my card and I had to reorder the four boxes. Another two weeks went by and this time when it arrived, three boxes were slightly damaged and one box was severely damaged so I sent that one back (and had to wait another two weeks for it to arrive). In the meantime, I was able to use the three boxes I received - it just took a lot longer to "prep" the flooring before I was able to lay it; I had to cut sections of the tongues out to make it work. I guess to sum all this up - make sure you buy the flooring at the store and don't try to order it online. When it is all down it looks great and the price point is awesome, just the headache of what I dealt with was worth me sharing.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good for what I needed but not exactly what I expected I used this flooring in my basement, it looks good and is fine for what I was looking for but there are some negatives. I purchased a sample first, which was much higher quality than the actual flooring. The sample was thicker, slightly different in color, and the clock and lock strips were much higher quality. MAKE SURE YOU BUY MORE AREA THAN YOU NEED. I purchased about 10% extra and had just enough because many planks were damaged (the actual walking surfaced was crushed on some edges, or the click and lock strips were damaged since they are so thin). I don't know that I would use this flooring in a main room or high traffic area.

We've installed the TrafficMaster click-together flooring (15-year warranty) before - it is a really good value, goes together well, has a tough finish, with a good underlayment, it makes an excellent floor. Soooo... we bought more for another project, this time we bought this Alameda Hickory. Everything on the box LOOKS the same as the stuff we bought before, BUT IT'S NOT. The flooring that we liked was made in Germany (which it printed in very small print on the paper label inside). This Alameda Hickory is made in China. The quality is not the same. The surface seems to be tough, but the backing is different, more slippery, and the boards don't click together as nicely. What ends up happening is that as you lay boards across the room, gaps develop between successive rows. By the time you are all the way across the room (like a 12 foot room, not that large) a gap develops between one row and the next row. It is almost impossible to lay a nice tight floor in a whole room. So - look carefully at the box before you buy, get the stuff made in Germany, not China. And, by the way, the description on the internet doesn't say where it it made. You have to go to the store and actually eye-ball the box.
