Customer Questions & Answers

I have old, 1/8 thick commercial carpet glued to floor. Can I put Laminate over it?

The floor is commercial carpet. It's virtually flat with no softness, really. It's only 1/8" thick. It's glued down to wood subfloor. I know it's not recommended, and may void warranty (I don't care about this), but is it possible to use that as a subfloor, and lay laminate over top of it. This carpet is so thin. It just seems to be perfect as it is for a subfloor. Can it be done? That's my main question. I know it won't be perfect, but can it be done with an acceptable result? Thanks, Rob

How well will this floor hold up with a dog?

I know dogs nails will scratch floors, but will it hold up okay or will the dog tear it up?
Asked by: Anonymous
I have two dogs and this floor is holding up very well. There are no scratches at all. This floor is in my Kitchen, Dining, and Living room.

How much does each package weigh?

Asked by: Anonymous
Good question. Strangely enough there is now weight indicated on the package. I would take a rough guess at 40 lbs. I didn't take the packages up to my second floor where I was installing. I left them on the first floor and took a couple of planks up each time I needed them. It was easier on me and I didn't need to clutter up the room I was working in.

But, I do have some advice about installation. A few other people on this site have mentioned needing the installation kit. They were right, you definitely need the tapping block and the Roberts 10-26 will do the best job. I tried both. The other thing is installing the first row. The instructions say to remove the tongue on the first row and place the plank against the wall. If you are like me and looking down on a piece of the flooring to me the part that sticks out from the board is the tongue. But, this is not the case. I didn't realize it until I was having so much trouble by the time I got to the fifth row that I couldn't pound the next plank into the groove with a regular hammer and I was damaging the flooring. Then I sat down and took a good look at how they interlocked and had to rip it up and start over. I lost several boards in the process. So when you start, make sure when you look down at the plank that there is a tongue pointing toward you and one on the right edge of each board. You have to start in the left corner and work to the right. Also, if you have a couple of those felt disks you put under furniture legs handy put them on the bottom of the Roberts metal installer device, I got careless a couple of times and scratched the top of a plank. The felt will take care of that. So far I like what I see, it is a big improvement in my room and I also have Solid oak plank in other rooms. Good luck

Rated 5 out of 5 by from What a great product This flooring goes down so easy and is a pleasure to work with. I have installed over 600 sq ft of this stuff, most of it by myself. It does have the tendency to have a corner or two to chip up, and the interlocking tongue and grove points can crumble if you are too rough with them. Otherwise it looks really great. For about $1/sq ft it is a fantastic deal. They lock in tight and look fantastic when complete. I definitely recommend this in spite of other bad reviews. Just as in life sometimes you get a bad batch or a few bad boards, it's ok I only lost 1 sheet to shipping damage.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Not quite Pergo but close My brother and I installed this in a bedroom in a few hours and it looks great. The texture is not as defined as the Pergo in the living room and kitchen. Also this flooring doesn't have the underlayment that the Pergo has. However, I would recommend it, especially in a moderate traffic area. You just can't beat the value for the money.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from EXCELLENT PRICE AND EAST TO INSTALL very little waste using this product and easier to use than the more expensive stuff I used in another family room! have just used it in 3 of 4 bedrooms ... and am going out today to buy more for our master bedroom! Great product for the price and very durable for the 3 kids I have! now my wife can pick out nice area rugs instead of worrying about staining carpets ... and no more wasting money on carpet cleaning scams!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great stuff Looks great, fairly easy to install yourself if you are capable of doing so. Can be a little tricky to figure out which pieces fit where (as certain sides will only lock with certain sides). we have this stuff in our kitchen as well as master bedroom and think it works great for an alternative to Pergo. Use the matting underneath to help with noise of hard flooring. be cautious when connecting the boards as the edges that lock the boards together will break off if you hit them the wrong way (use a rubber mallet!)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great floors! Take your time, and these floors turn out great. We put these in our home after replacing carpet. They have been in for about a year and still look great! At .68/sqft its a steal. It also comes with a 15 year warranty. I found transitions in the flooring department that match perfectly (since there are none that match the style). I would put these in again!
