Customer Questions & Answers

Can this tile be installed over an existing vinyl kitchen floor or is it recommended that the existing floor be removed. It is tight.

Asked by: Anonymous
I installed mine over old linoleum (probably containing asbestos, so I didn't want to remove it), and it seems to have stuck fine. Just make sure that the surface is absolutely clean and free of dust and/or oils. I used hot water with vinegar and baking soda, with a scrubber, and it was spotless afterwards. I can't speak to the success of installation over vinyl, but the instructions say that it has been done successfully.

Customer Reviews

12 in. x 12 in. Mamouth Resilient Vinyl Tile Flooring (30 sq. ft. / case) is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 33.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent look when used with grout! I've installed many vinyl (and ceramic) tile floors over the past 30 years. This product's quality is superior! This tile is thicker than most "standard" peel & stick vinyl tiles (they're the same thickness as commercial grade vinyl tiles), and I would rate them as "heavy duty". I've recently installed this flooring with an approximately 1/8" - 3/16" gap between the tiles and then grouted the gaps with the suggested grout. It looks exactly like ceramic floor tile when completed! Friends cannot believe it is vinyl flooring, even after close inspection on their hands & knees, it is that realistic when grouted! The tile is much warmer to the touch than ceramic tile, with the added benefit of not breaking every dish that is dropped on it, unlike ceramic tile. If grouted joints are used, you will get the look of a ceramic tile floor with much less installation time and much less material needed (no cement board & thin-set grout) a much lower cost! Note: 1. The tiles are undersized (11-3/4" square) to allow room for a grout joint, but you may place them tight against each other and not use any grout, if you wish. 2. Apply the suggested primer (for peel & stick vinyl tile) on the floor before installing the will keep them tight to the floor for decades (this should be done for any peel & stick vinyl tile). 3. When cutting these tough tiles to shape with a utility knife you should pre-warm the area to be cut on the tile with a heat gun until the tile is "softer"...the tile will cut as easy as a hot knife through butter.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from beautiful, looks like ceramic tile! We put down 240 sq ft down of "Mamouth" pattern in our kitchen and it looks wonderful! It looks just like ceramic or stone! We didn't use the grout but the way the edges are beveled and are a bit lighter it looks like a thin grout line and looks great! Love it!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect I had already updated the cabinets and counter tops in my kitchen but I waited on the floor because I wanted to lay ceramic tile. I laid about 200 sq ft of ceramic in my basement so I knew the labor involved to do the kitchen and was not looking forward to it. I came across this and saw some good reviews and pics so I gave it a try and was not disappointed. Followed the directions for cleaning as and did not use extra adhesive. It went down and stayed down well. Scored and broke easily and trimmed it with tin snips for precision cuts. I grouted it with Earth color grout and it looked great. Time will tell for durability with two young boys and 100 lb dog it won't take long to find out. Honestly I am very happy with how it looks. 130 sq ft in about six hours including grout is not too bad. Excuse the pics my tablet camera is not the best.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Affordable, easy, and looks great! These tiles look like the real thing but are much easier to install than ceramic tile. We installed this floor over existing sheet linoleum. We did a diamond pattern and have received many compliments on the floor. It is very important to clean your existing floor according to the product's recommendations for a great stick. If the floors are cleaned properly, they will have a strong bond. Learned this the hard way! Tiles are easy to cut with the score and snap method...just be sure to score on the top of the tile, not the back as it can peel the design off the tile...husband learned that the hard way! He scored and snapped one from the back and the design peeled off a little at the edge. For round cuts or more complex cuts than a straight cut, heat the tile up first with a hair dryer, then take strong or utility scissors to easily cut the tile. We will continue to use these tiles for the remaining sheet linoleum that is in our home. Love my new floor!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Looks like real stone I installed this in our kitchen. When we first moved in over 14 yrs ago, I installed self stick vinyl tiles, but they moved, cracked ect. over time. I wanted to install ceramic tiles, but my hubby, who is not handy in the least, and doesn't like helping with home improvement's, didn't want to have to help carry the tile and the concrete underlay that was required. We saw this tile at Home Depot. I installed it with spacers for grout.(which is made by this company especially for these tiles.) because my kitchen is only 11ft x 12ft. I didn't want it to look smaller. The tile was easy to lay, I did use extra adhesive to insure that they remain in place, and the grouting was easy. I love it, and get compliments on it all the time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Allure ceramica 12"x12" resilient-vinyl tile floor I recently installed 250 square feet of this tile flooring in my kitchen/dining area and main hallway. I placed it in a diamond pattern and used 1/8" spacers to leave the grout line. This product was easy to work with and I cut it using a pair of vinyl/metal shears. Had friends and family over for Thanksgiving and they were all impressed and surpised once I told them it was peel and stick and not ceramic tile (most of them would get down and touch it because they didn't believe me). To make for a good install I removed the old linoleum flooring and placed this on top of the old subfloor after I removed all the glue residue. Overall it was a great and simple product to use and the end result is beautiful. We couldn't be more satisfied with the end result. Thanks.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Value Purchased tiles to replace tile that had to ripped up in my laundry room due to replacement of sewer pipe below the floor. It took a couple of tries before the tile stuck permanently without popping up. I think it was more due to cooler temperature in the room and concrete subfloor, than the tile itself. Once I placed heater in room after placing tile to ensure good adhersion, it seemed to do the trick. Tile does looks good,

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Tile! We laid this tile in our bathroom, wanting to spruce it up on the cheap. This tile looks far from cheap, it looks incredible! We laid down new 1/4 inch plywood, primed the plywood with special primer specifically made for vinyl sticky tiles, and grouted the tile with "Sandstone" grout spaced with 1/8" spacers. The result was impressive for well under $50. Cutting the tiles around the toilet was a little time-consuming, but the rest was pretty easy. Just make sure to have a sharp new blade on your box cutter, it makes cutting the tiles so much easier.
