I used this product in a home office, it took me about 4 hours by myself, with no help and including moving all the furniture out, prepare the floor and chalk line, lay the carpet tiles and then move all the furniture back in. You only need help in moving furniture, really only one person can lay the tiles, cutting of the tiles where you can't use a full tile is what takes the most time.

I have only used them on wood, but I think they would work very well on laminate. They do leave a slight residue after being left in place for several weeks, but if you only leave them in place for a day, they probably will not.

The Traffic Master Putty Ribbed 18 in. x 18 in. Carpet Tiles uses a peel & stick system. If you plan on removing the carpet tiles at a later time, I do not recommend installing the tiles over your existing laminate flooring. The adhesive used is an aggressive sticky tape (similar to duct tape). If you decide to remove the carpet tiles in the future, you most likely would need to remove the laminate under the carpet tiles as well.

The tile is self-adhesive and very easy trim to fit and install. It goes down well on hard surfaces but does not provide any cushioning. Depending on what you mean by "general living conditions" I cannot speak to its durability but the fact that you can remove and replace one stained or damaged tile, instead of replacing the entire floor, is a huge plus in my book.
And you can't beat the price.

Hi MareBear, unfortunately these carpet squares are 1/4" thick. That is too thick to cut with regular scissors.
You will have an easier time cutting by using a utility knife and a straight edge. Home Depot carries carpet cutting knives in the tool department.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by 2400 square feet Hello,,, I installed these in my basement -----Thank God for these--------the carpet stunk down there ---------pulled it out along with the padding-------there is just too much humidity down there so the carpet and padding stunk....................Now it smells great down there ------------also his carpet does not capture moisture so no moldy smell at all ever------------- You do need a square to check to see if your carpet tiles are square or you will have issues installing.....usually you will get 1 or 2 odd balls per box but you just save those and use them in close to the wall or something -------------------Peace out------------ July 18, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Finished basement re-carpeting I purchased and installed these tiles when my husband and I updated our small finished basement. The tiles are extremely thin, as mentioned in the product description, but they have held up very well over the past 6 months and I'm expecting that they will last for quite sometime before any need to be replaced. The tiles were extremely easy to cut and arrange. The only complaint I have is that if you leave anything even remotely heavy on them (a portable dehumidifier, for example) it will leave an indent. This is to be expected, though, from a tile this thin, and the marks do go away with time. The carpet is lovely, though, considering the price - I would definitely buy these tiles again if I needed to! February 10, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good product for the price Excellent overall product. Don't expect it to be a plush carpet. Read the description and consider the price. Follow the installation instructions. I found cutting the tiles on a half sheet of quarter inch plywood greatly reduced dulling my cutting knife. BTW, I used a simple box cutter and a 24 inch T-square to cut the tiles. I used some spray contact glue on the tile backs where the tiles went around an edge and down the side of the patio. The only short coming I found was that some of the tiles seemed to be slightly out of square. Could be just my measuring and cutting. There is a softness when walking on the tiles as opposed to concrete. That is almost a luxurious feel! The project was well worth the effort. July 4, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Time will tell I installed 900 square feet of these carpet tile in our finished basement. Took around 12 hours to install by myself. Tile can be cut with a good pair of scissors. The adhesive stuck well to the clean concrete floor, unless you needed to reapply a tile, losing a lot of its sticking power. Carpet feels warm, and not to bad under foot. Many of my tiles were not square, making it difficult to eliminate small gaps in between. I was also dissapointed in the variation of the color shade. I cannot comment on wear, as it is to soon to tell. For the cost per square foot I should not complain, but I am very meticulous. October 21, 2014
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Don't buy this This is sorry carpet title We got it to go in our basement it want stick to the cement floor even using glue you can not vacuum it because it comes up Home Depot want stand behind it we can't get any money back or just a credit so we can try to get something better March 26, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Fantastic carpet for a quick update! We have some really worn hardwood floors that we didn't feel like refinishing. We wanted something different and decided to try these carpet tiles. The color is great! I am not too sure why some people say they are so thin you can read the paper through them... they are thin however you can not see through them at all...the ribbed pattern looks great when you alternate the direction as suggested. I had no problems with color variation or tiles that were cut uneven. They stuck down really well and were very easy to cut and make fit properly. We did our entire family room and hallway...I like the fact that if you get a stain or something you can take up that messed up tile and replace it. I used 12 boxes and got all the carpet laid down in about 5 hours. We really like the look of it as well as the feel. It is a lot nicer than the hard floors. This carpet isn't plush or as soft as carpet with padding underneath but I am sure you already knew that just by looking at the product. It is exactly what we wanted. I will purchase again to do another room in our home. I ordered these on a Saturday and had them the following Friday by UPS. Each box is only 7 pounds and 16 tiles come to a box. Once you lay the carpet down it all ties together and looks great. I really like how these carpet tiles made our worn floors look updated. I like how the there are arrows on the tops of each tile so you know exactly what direction to place the next tile. April 4, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Flooring for kids room Installed in a couple hours in the kids room - quick fix - not the highest quality carpet (i.e., it is thin, no cushion), but this was clear prior to purchase. Effective, looks sharp/clean, went down easy, forgiving around the walls/easy to fit with a razor. Would use again in this situation without question. It is essentially a thin tile with a tiny bit of carpet fuzz. :-) August 12, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Beautiful Color, Easy to Install The color of these tiles is Taupe; tan with a mauve tone (see pic below). We have used it in our bedroom, it looks great, it cleans great. Installation was simple; it took only a few hours to do a 15 x 15 foot bedroom. I've vacuumed it several times and it cleans well. April 22, 2014
