How do you clean Shasta resilient vinyl tiles

Asked by: Anonymous
I just use a damp mop or hands and knees. I have also used a Swiffer wet cleaner.

Can this be placed directly over vinyl flooring with no prep to the floor

Asked by: Anonymous
The floor must be clean and free of any defects. if there are any tears in the vinyl- they must be repaired. The directions are on the carton.

How thick is this tile? Need to know how much space I need under the door to hang the doors.

Asked by: Anonymous
This is just a guestimate because I do not have a tile with me but I would say around 3/32"- 1/8".

Customer Reviews

12 in. x 12 in. Shasta Resilient Vinyl Tile Flooring (30 sq. ft. / case) is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 134.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Couldn't be happier I liked the way these looked on display in the store, and they look even better installed. Went with the grout and spaced them 1/4" (rather than the instructed 1/8") and the result was beautiful. A buddy and I were able to lay ~160 sq ft in the morning and did the grout after lunch. Can't do that with ceramic tile. Easy to cut and work with. I know another person that has had this installed for over a year and so far is holding up quite well to their multiple dogs. The scratch resistance seems much better than I even expected. Definitely a high quality product - the groutable vinyl tile at L:owes isn't even in the same ballpark as this stuff.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Floor, easy to install! I installed this flooring in 2 of our upstairs bathrooms over the existing ugly ivory vinyl flooring. I used spacers and the pre-mixed grout in the color "earth"! I think it looks fantastic, like real tile, but not cold like real tile! Best of all, I did it all myself, and I have never installed flooring with grout before! The most difficult part was cutting it, only because it took strength to push down hard enough to score it with the knife. In general it only took a few days to complete each floor! The best part is that you can't see the dirt/hair on the bathroom floor anymore! LOL!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from What a joke on my husband The last thing my husband said when I told him I was going to redo the flooring in the 2 bathrooms of our second home -"DO NOT use peel and stick." I saw these and really liked them, even though they were peel and stick. I did both bathrooms and grouted. His first question when he saw the new floors - "Who laid the ceramic for you." All I could do was laugh and tell him they are peel and stick. I am now thinking the kitchen sure would look better. The tiles are so easy to work with even with weak arthritic hands and the grouting is a breeze. Love this flooring.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Update on my Jan. 1st, 2013 post The floor has been down a month and I couldn't be happier with it. The grout in "Earth" looks great! Tip... I had no idea going in how much grout it would take to do my 160' of floor, so I bought 2 of the big buckets (gallon) of grout since I live an hour from the nearest HD. It was WAYYYY too much. I think 1 small pail (quart) would have been perfect. Another tip... Forget the specialty "grout sponges". All they do is smear this grout around. Just pick up a large Ocello cellulose sponge (actually, you better get 2) from the grocery store. They're perfect for this. Grout small areas (3 squares max) at a time. Change your water in the rinse bucket often. So far I have mopped with my steam mop after spilling greasy bacon and fruit juice and the floor cleans up beautifully. All the tiles are still stuck solid. Hides dirt (and anything else you drop) like the Bermuda Triangle. LOVE THIS STUFF!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Performs much better than anticipated! We bought these peel and stick tiles for our basement laundry room, closet and entryway to the garage and in the year since they have been installed, there has been no peeling up of the edges, shifting, scratches or other marks. They look exactly the same as the day they were installed! For what we considered to be an inexpensive flooring solution for our misc basement areas, these have performed much better than anticipated!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product I was planning on using this tile in my kitchen, figured it would hold up to my messy dogs... and husband. I was debating on grouting it, and kept throwing the idea back and forth. The sales associate in the flooring dept said she laid this down without grouting it, and with her messy dog, she wished she would have grouted it. She said wherever he drools or spills his water, the tile keeps popping up, in which case she just has to let it dry then stick it back down. So, with this great advise, i decided to grout it. I don't think i would have been happier had i used real tile! It was so easy, and took one day to lay it, and grout it. And it looks awesome!!! I have a small hump in my floor, which i was nervous about, but it has been down over a month now, and no problems! SOO happy with this product! Definately would recommend to friends and family! (And already have)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Installed in 40 sq ft bath, fairly easy! I just installed these in my upstairs bath which is appx. 40 sq feet. Took about 2 days. Looks great! People think its real tile! As other reviewers have stated, its extremely tough to cut. For angles and cuts that didn't need to be perfect I used tin snips which worked great. However, for precise's a short cut. Mark your line on the back of the tile, then use a heat gun to warm it up. That's it! It cuts like butter! Be sure to spread the heat evenly, and watch for burning. Just test the resiliency with your cutter. When it sinks it easily, its ready to cut. Then just lay the tile flat to let it cool a bit. Don't heat the entire tile, just the cutting line. I also used 1/8" spacers. See for yourself how good it came out!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this floor -even with 10 kids! I bought this floor a year ago for my kitchen. I loved the look and the fact that I could install it myself. (My wonderful husband is not a project person.) A year later, I am going to install it in my hallways and playroom - I am impressed. I have 10 kiddos and a very small kitchen, so there is not an inch of it that has not been used and abused...but it still looks fabulous. Honestly, I thought it would be at least a short term solution for my old floor, but now I am looking at it for the rest of the house. I did the prep suggest by the box and the employee at Home Depot - and was able to put it over the old vinyl floor. The only problem I had was on a couple pieces that I cut too tight to the wall (not leaving a small gap for settling/shifting.) I just had to pull them up and cut them a tiny bit smaller. I did not do grout (we don't need anything extra to clean here) and it looks fabulous. My mom just installed it with grout in her bathroom and is thrilled. VERY easy to install - make sure to follow prep directions for over the old vinyl.
