The problem is the screws are too short, the piece bends of you tighten the screws and it is never the right size. An idea would be to make the piece longer and create some precut lengths that could snap off easier but still be used if necessary and make the piece sturdier.
There, I just gave you a wonderful new product idea.

It only took about 90 seconds to install and it removes a trip hazard in the doorway between rooms and looks good doing it too!

Installation was over vinyl and concrete so installation was going to be a problem regardless of what I used. But it worked.

This stuff is cheap easy to cut (hack saw, tin snips or even a carbide tip saw) and a breeze to work with.
I live in a REALLY old place. these old floors got "remodeled" back in the 70's, the vinyl floors were peeling AND CHIPPING at the seems. this stuff was the ONLY FIX.
