Answer:
Mostly, no tapping is needed -- You should not have to force the Allure Ultra planks together. When they are aligned properly, they fall right into place and seal without any gap. The only place I needed to tap was where a plank was partially trapped under a door jam and could not be raised up. I used a scrap piece of the flooring.

Answer:
You can use a small piece of plank and fit the tongue side into the groove and tap into place. You will use a number of these account they don't hold up very well.

Answer:
No. With vinyl flooring, the right tool for the job is the tapping block. The price of this tool is so reasonable, you will be glad you bought it. The design of this tool protects the tongue and grooves in the flooring. You will damage the flooring if you "improvise".

Thank you for your question. You can use a scrap piece of flooring and connect it to your floor and then tap the scrap piece with a rubber mallet.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Tool you definely need for DIY Allure Untra floor installation Its a bit pricey, but a necessary tool for the TrafficMASTER Allure Ultra floor installation. You need to connect the planks to each other and they can slip slightly as you go down the room laying them. This tool has a custom facing which lets you tap the planks back into each other. Without this tool you are likely to smash and distort the grooves as you tap them with a mallet or block of wood. It can be tiring to go down the room laying planks and this tool assures you don't get too sloppy. I don't know why TrafficMASTER just doesn't provide the tool with an order of planks? In any case, if you are doing the floor its cheap insurance for a job done right

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Must-have for installation of TrafficMaster interlock flooring planks ORDER THIS if you are using the Trafficmaster interlocking vinyl planks it works with. I installed nearly half of the trafficmaster planks covering my large basement floor without this tool- it worked ok, but when I looked back I found some of the seams between them separated/not tightly locked together. When I called the manufacturer to ask for help with some of the planks not interlocking/separating, they recommended this tool to help seal the planks together. I used it on the second half of the installation and the planks are SO much better sealed together/look so much better, and there was less wear and tear/soreness on my hands and arms using this tool to tap the planks together than when I was just trying to force them together manually. DEFINITELY get this tool and a mallet if you are installing the specific flooring product it goes with; I hope Home Depot will start stocking it on the shelf in store with the planks so people find out it exists and don't make the mistake of installing without it like I did. One warning: make sure the tapping block is lined up snug with the plank and tap gently but firmly low to the ground. The tapping block can slip up easily if it's not lined up snugly or you hit it with the mallet at the wrong angle, and it can cause the top of the plank to peel up. If I had one note for the manufacturers it would be to build the block a little thicker so one would have a larger/taller surface to tap on. It would also be nice if they made a 'pull-bar' version which was a little longer and had a hammering surface that stuck up at one end to help with installation of the final row of planks next to the wall.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Don't install with out it! This block is definitely needed to get a good install on the allure ultra . My mother and have 1000 sq ft install on her basement . The block is really needed to finesse the planks in perfect . Unlike laminate planks a wood block just doesn't work well. With out it the allure ultra ( saw cut Arizona ) is frustrating, with it fast and easy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A must have tool This tapping block is a must have tool to properly install Allure ultra click and lock. I used to use a piece of plank to fit into the groove to tap the plank into place.
